Casa Azahar - a pretty, rustic and romantic three storey townhouse in a small , sleepy village with pool, terraces, views, outdoor bathing, interior patio and two bedrooms. Lots of quirky touches and plenty of space to relax and enjoy the wonderful Lecrin Valley, half an hour south of Granada and forty minutes from the coast in Andalucia.
This is our holiday home. The moment we saw it we fell in love with it and we hope you will too. The house was restored about 15 years ago and is a comfortable place to stay with lots of typical Moroccan touches like the interior patio to cool you down; low, laid back lounging in the living room and shuttered windows with Juliet balconies. There is plenty of outside space for all weathers - sunny spots and shady places; views across an orange grove to a small stream and the terraced valley opposite; the pool, an outdoor bath and shower and all of it very private.
You enter the house on the ground floor from the carless street (parking about 70m away) into the kitchen/diner. On that floor you also have an interior patio with lots of greenery and then sun room and pool. Stairs lead up to the first floor from both the kitchen and also from the back of the pool. On the first floor you have a twin bedroom with en-suite shower and separate loo and basin. At the rear of the first floor you have the living room which opens onto a terrace with table for outdoor meals and enjoying the sunset. This terrace also links down to the pool. Moving further up the house you have the top floor double bedroom with open bath and en-suite loo and basin. This room opens on to the top two terraces with a very large outside bath/shower, sun terrace, swingseat, BBQ and views.
There is wifi internet.
The house is on one of the main, narrow, traffic free streets of the sleepy little village of Saleres, which is in the Lecrin Valley, 30 minutes from Granada city and 40 minutes from the beaches of the Costa Tropical.
Saleres village has a small bar in the main square for drinks and tapas. The village of Restabal is a 5 minute drive or 20 minute walk and has several bars, two shops, bank, pharmacy and restaurant. Melegis and its Los Naranjos restaurant with fantastic valley views is just a couple of minutes more.
There is fantastic walking in this area straight from the front door. The GR 7 walking route which stretches from Tarifa to Turkey passes right through the village or you can simply walk the track through the terraces to the neighbouring villages of Albunuelas or Restabal. And if you want walking further afield there are always the white villages of Las Alpujarras about an hour away.
Besides walking there is great road and mountain biking in the area, again right out of the front door. We have some detailed maps and information on walks that we can lend you.
Getting around:
There are buses to Granada and the coast but having a car in this area definitely makes life easier. It's a 15 minute drive from Saleres to the motorway and then another 15 minutes north to Granada or 25 down to the beach at Salobrena and the main coastal routes.
Other things to note:
I believe the house is only really suitable for children who can swim - probably 7 and over. This is because, it would be fair to say that the pool - a lovely two metre deep one to cool off in - has been squeezed in to the space available and the chances of falling in by accident are therefore higher as there is not much space around it! Also there is no shallow end so again not good for beginner swimmers. Also, the house has too many stairs and balconies to be safe for very young children.
We generally only let the house in the Spring/Summer/Autumn months but if you are interested in a longer term Winter let then do get in touch directly and I can tell you what might be possible and quote you a price for your situation.
