Neglected welcoming and felt scamed.
Publié le 8 sept. 2019 sur HomeAwayBath plumbing leaks and water flows downstairs in kitchen cabinets and ceiling. Despite having aware the owner the situation hasen't been fixed. The situation was knew by the owner prior to our stay. He said he thought it was repaired. It seems he never make sure with it. We've been promised to have it fixed for our second night and to have a discount to compensate this inconvenience. None of both done. Still waiting news from the owner despite messages left since we're back home.
Also, neglected cleanliness, particularly the carpets.

This house should be condemned
Publié le 27 juill. 2023 sur HomeAwayThe claims made by the owner for this property are almost all fraudulent. Most of the appliances listed in this ad do not work. This property was listed as “renovated” however, there were no recent interior renovations noted. The property is uncared for, dirty and dangerous. The ad features a washer and dryer. Upon arrival, we were greeted with a note advising that the washer and dryer do not work. The washer is completely rusted inside and hasn’t worked in years. The fridge and freezer did not stay cold enough. This ruined all the groceries we brought with us as well as the cod I had caught! The main floor would be almost liveable but for the dirt and peeling paint. Upstairs was just gross. He described it to me as “rustic”. The rugs were at least 50 years old and filthy . Peeling wallpaper, pest traps full of bugs, broken furniture, no bannister on the stairs.

The following is my cleaning ladies assessment of how my house was treated by Laura Lee Kelly. Laura stayed for 6 of the eight days booked and then wanted a full refund.
Oh yeah Hey dave, so the last people who stayed left an absolute mess. Cans on the floor, dog hair everywhere including on top of the coffee table, garbage everywhere. they left awful reviews yet they made the place rotten. It took me a long time to clean the place this time.
I was down there for 8 or 9 hours just cleaning the place. Plus 5-6 loads of laundry.
Crazy how people can treat someone elses property like a dumpster. to mention they ran out of dish liquid and put half cleaned dishes in the cupboard.
It's hard to believe how some complainers operate.

Disappointing

The entire structure was beyond tiny, I get that it’s a “salt box” style home but it was not at all what we expected. There is absolutely no parking at the house, we tried to get is a far as we could from the road, ppl were tooting their horns at us because we were still partially on the road, we ran upon rocks with our vehicle trying to get off the road. The host sent me a code to enter the home, but when we got there the door to the house was rusted and decrepit. The key was under a rock next to a bucket filled with water and cigarettes butts and the door was secured with a huge rusted padlock. We struggle to get it opened, it looked like it hasn’t been opened for some time. Up on entering the house the smell of mould and dampness took my breath away. We walked through the house and the entire house was uninhabitable in my opinion. We didn’t even unpack, we move to a hotel. The worst of it is I’m out over $400 dollars. I wish the owner would visit his property and update it, make it livable and safe. I will never recommend this listing to anyone.

I was disappointed to read Irene's review. It's TRUE that the house is an antique traditional Saltbox and therefore is small. It's only 1048 square feet but that's always seemed big enough for my family and me. I haven't been there since last Christmas when my wife and I and another couple spent two weeks there. We had a wonderful time.
I learned after Irene left that the man hadn't cut the grass yet which is probably why she didnt notice the parking at the side of the house as mentioned in the listing. I replaced the front door padlock last Christmas. I understand how quickly the salt air can cause metal to rust but it does work fine. The house keeper did a deep clean in preparation for this summer season. She even bought new linens, towels and several other things to improve the house. She was there several times and completed the work the night before Irene arrived. She did an excellent job as always.
Irene was our first guest this year which explains why she felt "dank" air in the house. One day of leaving the windows open would easily have solved that. We now have aired the house out.
I understand the excitement of planning a romantic weekend away and how sometimes our expectations and dreams dont match the reality of the situation. I too have experienced that but always prefer to accept and be content rather that angry or upset. Life is too short for that.
I hope irene that you did have a good weekend at a hotel instead. The icebergs are incredible this year again.

Absolutely the worst place I have ever booked

The online ad is completely inaccurate. There is no parking, laundry, wifi, working tv or even a bbq. It is not 90% renovated, that is just false. The bedspreads were thread bare with holes. I don’t mind old/vintage but that is not at all what this place is. It’s just run down and dirty.
The final straw was finding the mouse feces all through the cupboards and linens.
We didn’t even unpack.
The locals in Elliston were absolutely lovely and tried to help us find another place to stay. They were beyond embarrassed that this place was for rent in their community.
So far I have been given a partial refund, waiting on the rest. I have reported the condition on this property to VRBO and I sincerely hope that it is removed as a listing.

Wow, it seems that you really didnt like my house at all. I'm surprised because nobody else has felt like that before. I guess some people prefer fine 5 star places. I do apologize for the mouse fecies you found. The house has not been open for two years except for my family. I guess mice found their way in. We did fix all that though. The house was completely renovated and I'm surprised you couldn't see that. I guess I should up date the bed cover.
You refund was paid. The rental company is processing their portion of it. I paid you back completely within 12 hours of your request.
I hope you enjoyed you weekend at another place.

Great views
Publié le 10 sept. 2018 sur HomeAwayThis place is in a great location. Excellent views, and Elliston is so beautiful. The salt box was cute but there was some odd things - a tv that couldn’t reach the plug in, some not so comfy beds. It could have been cleaner. And there was no wifi, or cell service. That being said, we did enjoy our stay and are so so glad we had a place in Elliston. The people were so kind and the puffins were amazing. Oh, and the cottage has an excellent ocean view right from the window.
