perfect for a quick winter getaway, just 12 miles down the mtns from Royal gorge xc. Simple, quiet, clean, warm room.
decent snow in the vicinity too, if only there was access for snowshoeing etc.
very good american food at the on site restaurant, The Rustic Table - helping breakfasts too. No liquor but good coffee.

Liked: Staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Not a lot of comforts, like mini fridge or microwave. Property is beautiful though, just get outside and walk around.
Pros:
* great value
* awesome location - closest to the Bay Area close to Sugar Bowl & Truckee
* fairly good size room
* beautiful meadow behind the hotel
* nice staff - history 🙏
* restaurant onsite
* big bed
* pillows are huge and good support for sitting up
* rollaway bed available
* ithe lodge serves as the local post office
Cons:
* pebbled - bathroom shower floor - maybe great for the summer but in winter it is so cold
* kurt but efficient receptionist on call duty
* non-working TV
* good but loud wall space heater
* the bed wasn't as comfy as the others' reviews said
The staff were so helpful. We loved the convenience of having a restaurant to walk to. We ate dinner and breakfast at the restaurant which made for a more relaxing mini vacation. Plus the food was great and a great price. We will return again.
Such a cute little lodge right off 80, tucked back into the trees.
Staff was beyond accommodating and so friendly. The bed was very comfortable.
I ate dinner at the Rustic Lodge and it was great, as well. Prices are incredibly reasonable.
Hidden gem
We had room 10 with a "mountain view" - it was on the back, with less traffic noise, but the way the room was set up made it only convenient for one person. The queen bed was very close to the wall on one side - hard to get into on that side and what was worse, it had NO bedside table, not even a shelf for glasses or water, no light on that side, etc. Also none of the usual amenities - coffee maker, refrigerator, microwave - so a bit overpriced for what it offered. On the good side, it was very clean (although the odor of the cleaning products was a bit overwhelming and windows had to be left open) and the staff was friendly -
Sierra Woods Lodge is not just a lovely, forested place to dine and spend the night in a comfy, clean room, it is also a non-profit for a very, very good cause. I didn't know that when I booked my stay, but now I do know, I'll be even more inclined to come back.
The food at the "Rustic Cafe" was so, so good. The grounds were lovely, lots of places to sit and view nature. My room was scrupulously clean.
The staff was so kind, thoughtful, funny, friendly.
