Thank you for the great review and glad you all enjoyed the chalet! The forest atmosphere is 100% different and we love that it gets us out of the hustle and bustle of Gatlinburg Central but is still so close, too.

Yvonne, I am saddened that you had such a different experience from all of our other guests. I wish that you had contacted me during your stay so that we could help. In between guests, in addition to our standard departure cleans I personally dust the house and do spot cleanings when needed. We also have professional cleaners come in every 6 months and do a full deep clean, removing the furniture and scrubbing the floors, walls and ceilings. We have a monthly bug service with a pest control company, and they spray every month. One of the downsides of having a chalet in such a secluded location in the middle of a forest is that some bugs do find their way in during the winter. The one issue you brought up to me on your last day was the sliding door lock. A previous guest had removed that lock and thrown it away. I have replaced it with a new lock and pole that can only be removed with a special tool. It is also on my walk through checklist to check on after each stay. The mattresses are all about a year old. We sleep there and think they are comfortable, and we’ve never had a complaint from another guest, but I think adding curtains to the game room door is a great idea and have ordered a set. I checked the HVAC vents and a guest had switched open vents that I keep closed in the Winter so the heat is better distributed. Tennessee’s mountains can get very cold in January, so we also keep an electric heater in the closet in case someone is cold. We price the house using an online tool that uses 10 nearby similar cabins as examples and the prices change every day to reflect those other cabin prices. Our example cabins are in the lower mid range for Gatlinburg. There are many other cabins run by large companies that are priced much higher. We bought this chalet and renovated it specifically for the use of our family and we spend a lot of time there with parents, siblings, nieces, nephews, and other family friends. It is a place where we have made a lot of really good memories and offering the chalet as a rental on VRBO allows our family to keep going back to create more memories. We regret that your family didn’t share a similar experience. Lastly, I am very sorry that we were unable to find the Christmas ornament that your grandchild made for you that you left behind at the chalet. When you let me know it had been left behind, I contacted the cleaners immediately and also went to the chalet and opened up all of the drawers in the house to search for it. I know losing a sentimental ornament like that can spoil a family vacation, and I do hope it turns up.

Glad that you all enjoyed staying at the chalet, and thank you for letting me know a few more details about the "spring cleaning" that was needed. I have scrubbed down those couple of things, and have moved up the deep clean that was due in a couple months and updated our notes for the cabin cleaners. I also raked out the gravel on our neighbor's driveway to make access easier. Very sorry that you had a couple of cleaning issues, and hope that you get the chance to stay at Summerfall again in the future.
