The home was glorious and cozy. The house manager Sonya made every detail spectacular and perfect for this trip. Our walks to explore old club Med ruins were such a memorable time. Thank you to the owners of this home for sharing. Ashley T

Amazing House

Posted May 30, 2023 on HomeAway
The house was mostly as described. The refrigerator wasn't the one in the picture and both the fridge and stove had seen better days. They both worked but just made the kitchen look less upscale compared to the rest of the house. The house wasn't ready for our 4pm check-in which was a little disappointing after a long, hot day of travel, but we were able to put our groceries in the fridge while we waited. Had trouble getting the grill to light so might want to look into that. Could also use a net to clean the pool. Beware, the road to the house is very rough (pretty much off-roading) so rent the most rugged vehicle you can. And beware when the power goes out so does the water. We were prepared for the power but the water was an unpleasant surprise. Despite all that we would still stay again. The rest of the house was beautiful and comfortable. The view can't be beat. The ocean in front of the house was a little rough during our stay so we took the short walk to French Leave Beach for a calmer experience. We had a great time and would highly recommend this house especially if the appliances are updated.

The water does work when the power goes out! It just needs to be switched from cistern to town water. All the kitchen appliances are working well. The refrigerator is new, so not the original unit shown in the ad. The road to the house is a typical island dirt road, so we recommend a vehicle with some ground clearance, but it certainly does not require a four wheel drive.

Excellent rental in Eleuthera

Posted Dec. 25, 2022 on HomeAway
My family of 9 had a great time at the Alfred House in Governor’s Harbor. The house was perfect for the 9 of us. 5 bedrooms worked perfectly for 2 couples, 4 teens, and 1 single person. 4 bathrooms worked ok, but bear in mind that the two double rooms upstairs did not have a bathroom on their floor. Kitchen and dining room were excellent, particularly the space at the dining room table and chairs. Living room sofas were great for hanging out. Of course, best feature was gorgeous semi-private beaches. The blue clear water was amazing, perhaps only topped by the pink beaches. Rental agency was easy to deal with and very responsive. They sent lots of useful information in advance concerning things such as rental cars, excursions and restaurants. Only warning I would give is that if you chose to hire one of the chefs, be sure to get a definitive price quote in advance. We had two different chefs cook for us. The one we got a quote from cost $200, while the other without a quote charged us $900.

Terrible Property Management

Posted Nov. 19, 2022 on HomeAway
We enjoyed the scenery. The property is big and spacious. The garden is really nice with palm trees and other plants. Our biggest concern was the bugs in the rooms, the road leading to the property, and definitely property management. We have notified Christine about the bugs. She ignored. The bugs came out at night and they were all over the beds, walls. It was some sort of nocturnal bug. They were harmless, but we had to move into another bedroom that didn't have as "many" and we had to move the kids into another room that didn't have as many. We asked for new towels and had to wait three days to get them. On top of waiting, we had to drive all the way to Christine's restaurant to get the towels. Don't let Christine manipulate you to spend money at her restaurant and if you do, make sure you have the exact amount because she will not give you change. There was a blood stain on one of the covers in the room as well as other stains. Probably need to get new comfort sets. Overall, we enjoyed the scenery.........

We are so sorry to hear this. We wish we had known about the bugs during your stay. We have never had that problem before or since, so we are guessing you left a window or door open at some point, which allowed the bugs to fly in. In any case, we have had the house sprayed as a precaution. New coverlets were ordered prior to your stay and are en route. We completely agree that you should not have had to drive to get the towels. That is unacceptable, and we wish we had known about it at the time. We have since hired a new caretaker.

Magnificent House

Posted Jul. 21, 2021 on HomeAway
The house and the location were awesome. Very relaxing There is a protected beach about 1/2 mile north. Everyone was very nice. Definitely go to Island Farm for provisions. Jimmies at the North Eleuthera airport seems to have the best price and selection on liquor. Harbour Island is a great day trip. The Bucaneer club was great as well as 1648. Very relaxing

Fantastic!

We had a wonderful stay at Alfred House. Matt Simon was a pleasure to work with. From our first conversation he was responsive and very helpful. The staff at the house was very friendly and professional. I almost hesitate to share the accolades of this property and would love to keep it private for us. But Matt, Tara, the owner and the staff were so nice to work with and I feel I should share my comments for them. The house is well appointed, like a lovely hotel, and is situated on a beautiful beach. We have traveled extensively and rented other homes and this is definitely a 5 star property. Our family consisted of 3 adult couples and one 8 month old baby. We were completely comfortable. The house has nice amenities and is spacious. We loved that there were three areas in the house to gather; the downstairs living room and kitchen, the upstairs media room and the upper deck. The beach is one of the most beautiful beaches we have ever been on. I would get up every morning for sunrise and walk the beach, it was so picturesque I really recommend doing that. The people of Eleuthera were very friendly. The house is situated in a very convenient location. We enjoyed dinners at Tippys, 1684 and were regulars at Bacchus Fine Foods. We really enjoyed the Friday Fish Fry in town. However our favorite meal was lobsters that Christine's sister Beulia's husband caught. I boiled them and they were delicious. Definitely try to get them. I ordered basic groceries from the market at Rock Sound and I should have ordered more bread. Ordering ahead of time was very convenient as the local markets may run out of things. My husband loves to snorkel and there was good snorkeling at the beach and at Twin Coves. The water is calm and the sand is so soft is was perfect for the baby's first beach experience. It's an easy fun day trip to Harbor Island but just staying at the house is enough to have a fabulous vacation. My family had a fantastic experience and I definitely recommend this property. We look forward to renting again!

Beautiful Home in Amazing Setting

Posted Apr. 16, 2017 on HomeAway
Alfred House was the perfect setting for our family vacation. Two families were able to comfortably spend a week together with plenty of room. The furnishings are very nice with a large and comfy couch and seating area upstairs with a TV for watching movies in the evening. A similarly nice area was downstairs for the adults to relax and read books. The kitchen is well equipped with stainless steel appliances. The beaches immediately in front of Alfred House were incredible with soft pink sand and places to snorkel or swim right in front of the house. Located in Central Eleuthera, we were able to explore the island without having to spend too much time in the car. Literally a few minutes from Governors Harbor, there were many close options for lunch or dinner. Banks Deli had great sandwiches and cheese with nice beer and wine selections. Baccus Fine Foods is another place to eat or get what you need to prepare a gourmet meal at home; we cooked fish we caught with Paul Petty's son Richard. Dinner at 1648 located at French Leave Resort was a special treat enjoyed by kids and adults alike. Matt Simon and Tara were a big help with identifying resources and activities which allowed us to plan our week. Caretakers David and Christine Rolle were very nice and helpful as well. Everyone checked in with us and made sure we were happy during our stay which we were. We would stay at Alfred House again.

Relaxing stay

Posted Jul. 15, 2016 on HomeAway
We recently stay at the Alfred House. The house & beaches were beautiful. The Alfred House is very nicely decorated throughout. The house was clean upon our arrival. I was pleasantly surprised to find the kitchen drawers absent of crumbs & grime which unfortunately in other rentals we come across this quite often. Unfortunately rentals are not always kept clean. I was also thrilled we had no incidents with roaches during our stay as that is always a concern of mine---sorry I detest roaches & don't want to have to deal with that during a vacation. The house did have a few maintenance issues to address (door out to BBQ didn't work, front door knob came loose, 2 toilets ran & so the only way to flush was to keep the lid off the entire time and flush that way, roof leak). Christine, the caretaker, was very nice and checked in on us a few times to make sure we were fine. She also sells some nice treats & delivered a dinner she cooked for us one night. The house had beach chairs and umbrellas along with some beach toys and accessories for young ones which was nice to have on the beach since there is no shade to speak of. We used both the beach right out front which was great but we preferred the beach to the right which was a lot calmer and had a cool little reef area to check out. BTW while we were snorkeling one day my husband and I came across a Caribbean reef shark-that was pretty cool. Couple of Suggestions for Owners: -leave pen and paper for the guests as we had nothing to make notes or lists with -perhaps have a few more games and movies (that work) for the guests as there is no cable/satellite service & many of the movies where scratched beyond being able to watch -provide a working house phone as the one there never worked for us - not sure what the issue was but we couldn't use while it was charging & it always seemed to need to be charged -leave a list of tips inside the home of when places are closed, when places may start to run out of items etc. The Welcome letter definitely had some good info but it could use a few more good tips A few recommendations for Guests: - definitely bring bug spray & be ready with it around 5 pm as the bugs really come out then and they were bad - bring some games/puzzles etc if you can fit into your luggage (see above) - Make a trip to the grocery in Rock Sound (The Market). It really was the only one stop shop place that had any real type of selections and the prices were a tad better
