Hôtel pratique et proche de la mer

A secure functional chain hotel with plenty of parking. Our room was large although the bathroom felt a bit dated. The staff on reception didn't go out of their way to explain what facilities the hotel had or what was in the surrounding area. We found the swimming pool by accident. They didn't have a map available either.
On our first night we ate in the hotel restaurant. Although for most of the time there was only us and one other table the service was slow. When our meals eventually arrived they were no more than luke warm. It took over 20 minutes for a bottle of sparkling mineral water to arrive. When it did it clearly had been shaken up on it's way as it sprayed out all over the table. After we had signed the bill so that it could be put on our room the waitress came to our room and said that we had to pay for it separately. We ate out on our second night!
Although there were a lot of notices about saving water due to a drought when our room was serviced the towels were changed, even though we were only staying two nights, and the face cloth disappeared.

Unfortunately our very special occasion only ended up with disappointment and food poisoning from undercooked frozen (as we were informed later by staff) fish which was sent back along with my undercooked steak. We reported the fish to the manager who did not offer any compensation and informed us he would investigate and get back to us - we're still waiting well after 2 weeks. Our last night - disappointment again - and we unfortunately decided to eat at the restaurant again - to play it safe ... salad and pizza. Very underwhelming - the pizza base tasted as if it were a standard supermarket base and not a fresh base.
The wine list became limited as several of the wines we chose on different occasions were out of stock.
The room was clean, but we needed to air the room each day due to the cleaning agents being used. The pillows were new, but either too large or too soft - frustrating - but they did provide us with extra soft ones to sort it.
Parking, security was all good. In general, the staff were friendly and helpful.
The beach views from the balcony are excellent, though, not their fault, the traffic noise is continuous.
The gym, while small, was adequate for a small workout and it was nice to be able to use the bikes while looking out to the ocean.

The conclusion of our investigations into the allegations of food poisoning, as well as the laboratory tests done, precludes the possibility of food poisoning at the hotel.
