Fantastic holiday villa
Posted Jul. 26, 2024 on HomeAwayWe thoroughly enjoyed our week at Villa Gaia. The villa was clean and spacious with fantastic outside space. It was in a quiet, rural location however was still convenient for local restaurants, supermarkets and the beach and there were many things to do within an hour’s drive (including the airport). Zacharias was a generous and kind host. He insisted on meeting us at the villa despite us not arriving until after midnight. I would highly recommend a stay here.

Perfect trip

The host was fantastic and his Mum even cooked us a home made meal on our first night which was both unexpected and greatly appreciated.
We will definitely be back.

Amazing Villa
Posted Aug. 2, 2023 on HomeAwayThis is a beautiful villa, very modern and perfect for a family holiday. The pool isn’t too deep and is the same depth throughout so perfect for children. The views from the villa are stunning and we would recommend staying in this villa. The owner is also lovely and very helpful if you need anything.

Lovely stay and exceptional hosts
Posted Aug. 11, 2022 on HomeAwayWe were a party of two families, four adults and four teenage children. The property is around 20 minutes from the coast and cars are a must but this was perfect for us as we prefer to stay in quieter areas. The pool is great and would be ideal for younger children too as it is not too deep and all one level. The villa is modern but traditionally furnished and well equipped. The beds are quite firm which was fine for most of us, but one has a bad back and found the bed too hard. However the hosts went above and beyond and sourced a mattress topper for us. Zacharias and his family are wonderful hosts, very welcoming and happy to help with any questions. On arrival they had prepared a delicious meal for us and a homemade cake . It was very special and we wouldn’t hesitate to return.

Fabulous Break
Posted Oct. 6, 2021 on HomeAwayA beautiful late September week for 2 to recharge and our first post-Covid trip. Great weather and a very comfortable place to relax in.
We mainly cooked for ourselves and the villa has most of what you need with supermarkets in Stavromenos 10 minutes back down the road. The wifi is fast enough that you won't notice any issues and Netflix and Amazon Prime are available on the Smart TV (you will need your own subscription though). Swimming pool was refreshing and the local cats very cute!
The owner Zacharias was simply the best. An extremely tasty dinner was waiting for us on arrival and he dropped in with a couple of other treats during the week and was always available on the end of the phone to answer any queries. Thank you for all your help!
If you need a rapid antigen test for return travel then numerous places are available in Rethymno and the process is simple at approx €25 per person.
It felt so good to sit with a glass of Cretan wine and watch the superb sunset from the upper balcony and remember the joys of travelling.
Highly recommended location, villa and owner! Just book it!

Amazing vacation
Posted Sep. 10, 2020 on HomeAwayWe stayed at the villa for 6 days and cannot recommend it enough. Zacharias is a very friendly and pleasant person and an amazing host. We received a warm welcome, even though we arrived late at night. He had even written us a card, to congratulate us because we recently got married. He checked in with us several times while we were there.
The villa is spacious, nicely decorated and very clean. The view is just wonderful and the surroundings are peaceful. We spent a lot of time by the pool, just enjoying the sun and the villa.
We will definitely be back.

Incredible!
From start to finish we could not have asked for better hosts or better accommodation.
Our flights were delayed and the host waited for us at the property to welcome us. And welcomed us with the most delicious food that his mom had cooked for us! what a start to the holiday!!
We were 2 families holidaying together , 3 adults and 5 children age (17,14,6,4,4) and the villa was just ideal for us. 4 perfect bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, and dining room/kitchen/lounge, 2 big upstairs terraces (great views of the countryside down to the sea) and ample outdoors space with seating areas dotted around, some in sun and some in shade, to relax in, read a book, enjoy your coffee, etc.
Little play area for the children outside to keep them occupied.
The pool was clean and enjoyably cool for the hot weather.
the location was great, in the countryside so that we had peace and quiet, only the sounds of the sheep passing by, and as we had cars, was easily accessible for us, in face great as we could get to the main road (chania to heraklion) easily for our day trips.went to different beaches every morning and then spent the afternoon at he pool and out for dinner in the evening.
could not have asked for nicer accommodation for our holiday.
I give a 5 star rating as thats what it deserves and I would recommend this property (and the hosts) to everyone!

Excellent Villa and Host in a peaceful location
Posted Aug. 15, 2019 on HomeAwayWe can honestly say that our stay in the Villa surpassed all expectations. We were two families with 7 adults and it was a perfect size.
We arrived in the early hours after a delayed flight and Zacharias and his father were there to greet us with wonderful basket of local produce, a fridge stocked with drinks and a home-cooked meal. This attention to our needs continued throughout the holiday with various food packages arriving over our two week stay. The ice creams were delicious as were his mothers home-cooked pies.
The location is peaceful and a car is essential as the nearest shop is about 10 mins away. The views were incredible with gorgeous sunsets every night. The villa is well equipped with very efficient air conditioning. There is plenty of space indoors and out for everyone to feel relaxed. The pool area has sunbeds, recliners, parasols so shade and comfort is great.
In terms of things to do, we recommend the Paraschakis Olive Oil producers, who offer a short tour and tasting. The Arkadi Monastery is both beautiful and fascinating. Local beaches are good but snorkelling is better in the South. We like Damnoni Beach in particular. Rethymon Old Town is great (park at the Marina). We also visited Chania, Knossos (opens at 8am get there early if it's hot) and Heraklion, all within just over an hour's drive.
All in all, this was a fantastic holiday. In our many stays at various villas we've never experienced such generous hospitality. You will definitely enjoy a stay at this Villa.

Posted Jul. 27, 2019 on HomeAwayWe've not used homeaway before so were a little apprehensive but Zacharias was super welcoming. His villa was amazing. Large, but not too large and an amazing pool. It was quiet and relaxing, about 20 mins from. Rythemno (btw - park on by the marina for a 10 min walk to the old town). Everything was perfect, kitchen fully equipped and multiple terraces to enjoy alfresco dining. We have to say that the hospitality was amazing - and we fully recommend coming to stay here!

Charming and peaceful villa with excellent host
Posted Aug. 31, 2018 on HomeAwayWe have just returned from an eleven night stay at the lovely Villa Gaia modern.
Located in the quiet hills the Villa provides a peaceful sanctuary for relaxation where the only interruptions are the sound of crickets (or the laughter of my six year old twins as they play in the pool!).
The villa itself is fairly isolated, making car hire essential. But the location has lovely views and provided a perfect base for exploring the island; it is not far from a range of archaeological and natural places of interest (Arkadi monestery, melidoni cave) and 10 minutes drive to a local supermarket.
Only recently completed the Villa is modern with some traditional Greek touches. An immaculate outdoor space includes a good size pool and play area which is spacious and was perfect for our group of seven people.
Facilities in the property were excellent with everything provided from a hairdryer and pool inflatables to a regular cleaning service (with fresh towels and bedding provided regularly during our stay).
Our host , Zacharias was exceptional and genuinely cared that we had a great holiday. He provided a wonderful welcome basket full of basic groceries and Cretan delights (including homemade jam and wine) for our arrival and we were particularly thankful for the gifts of sour cherry compot and homemade pies during the stay.
I highly recommend the villa and should we go back to Crete, we would definitely return to Villa Gaia modern.
