The hotel is very dreary and run down outside. The rooms are fine but the verandahs are so small a chair will not fit there and the door is held on by a bolt. There are no bathroom guest amenities or many tea selections just black teas. The bed is very lumpy and pillows the same. We ate in the dining room and had some challenges with staff that were not trained in the menu or wine list. The food was just ok. Certainly not even could be rated a 3 star hotel and overpriced for the room and facilities. This hotel group should provide better standard rooms, facilities and restaurant.

Greymouth Copthorne stay

Hotel was ok - but the buffet breakfast was disappointing. Limited choice very busy with bus trip people, only instant coffee and not value for money.

This might be the best hotel on Greymouth but it is 2 star. Terrible windows, No ventilation or AC and it was super hot. Walls to next room super thin. Find another location to stay for the night.

Probably the best hotel in Greymouth, but they should seriously consider installing air conditioners in the rooms. Our room was west facing and was extremely hot. Staff are very courteous and helpful

Let’s clear up immediately. This is not a 4 star as advertised here. It’s scraping as a 3 if that. Air conditioner? No. (Sleeping at night was hot and uncomfortable. But there is a heater) Hair conditioner, shower cap, bar of soap sanitary bag? No. There is shampoo and hand wash but you’d expect these items in a 3 or 4 star hotel. Positives:- the staff are friendly. The location is nice. If you like being woken early, you will be by the bell tower. But if a sleep in Is for you, I’d go elsewhere. We personally liked it. Negatives:- the in hotel restaurant is over rated and a rip off. I cannot recommend it. The wait staff while very friendly were not enough to make this experience a good one. Diners be aware The menu is limited, which is no problem We liked the base of the pork belly salad however did not want to eat the pork so asked to swap the protein from pork to beef As you’ll see on the photo attached, there is a similar salad that contains grapes etc that can be served with either chicken or beef The beef salad is $32 and the pork is $37 When we ask the lovely waitress if the protein could be swapped, she said she’d speak to the chef and that there was no issue changing We were horrified when we paid the bill to discover that we were charged for two steaks at $55 each When we questioned this, we were told that the chef decided to serve us a bigger portion and it was not confirmed with us prior to making this decision as we would never of accepted

Upon our arrival at the hotel the streets were closed off for annual motorcycle races. Needless to say it was very noisy at first. However, once the races ended, it was very quiet around our accommodation. The hotel is nice, but located in a rather rundown area of town. Many of the businesses were closed, but we were able to walk to pick up a few groceries.
