Live like a local

Publié le 27 juin 2024 sur HomeAway
An amazing opportunity to immerse yourself in Costa Rica, the land, animals, and community. Stuart gave a wonderful tour of the integrated farm, and Alex was a lovely host sharing eggs, coffee, coconut, and laughs with us. The nearby river was a lovely place to relax and play between the rains. Thanks for sharing your beautiful space with us.

Lovely rustic rural stay within driving distance of Monteverde

Publié le 26 juill. 2023 sur HomeAway
We enjoyed staying at the farm with our two kids while exploring the Monteverde area. The house was simply, but artistically decorated with natural log-plank furniture and murals of local wildlife. The farm dogs made friends with our kids, even our son who tends to be scared of dogs! Yes, it was rustic, but clean and welcoming! The open-to-the-outdoors "windows" are not uncommon and were just fine for us. Stuart communicated well with us before and during our stay, giving us a tour of the farm, sharing fruit and sugar cane with us, teaching our son how to make flying airplanes from one of the local plants and recommending a place to go horseback riding. The horseback ride to the thermal pool was one of our kids favorite things we did in the area. The location is quite rural, with true grocery stores found closer to Monteverde. We took advantage of having a dinner brought in by a neighbor and it was good with generous servings. We also ate breakfast at Om Cafe in Guacimal, which is affiliated with the farm, and it was delicious! The owner, Veronica, was lovely to chat with and connected us with a local artist who creates wonderful wood sculptures. She also gave suggestions for areas to explore right around Guacimal that we wish we'd had more time to explore. We enjoyed this house and would visit again, but we might look into their other property if we want to visit Monteverde for multiple days to avoid repeating that drive every day! Thanks for a great stay!

Animal lovers paradise

Publié le 27 févr. 2022 sur HomeAway
My family of 5 and 2 friends stayed here a week. We all fit. The kids loved feeding compost to the friendly farm animals and gathering citrus fruits and sugar Cane. They also loved the friendly farm dogs that followed us around. We had a great tour from Stuart when we first arrived and were excited to see a 3 day old foal. Alexander let us roam his farm and trails freely, and we saw way more wild animals here than in monteverde, including coati, Howlers, and an anteater. It's hotter and dryer here, but the river is very close and refreshing.. monteverde is 45 minutes on a beautiful drive and some local hot springs are about 20 minutes. This place is for people who like animals and nature, not for anyone who needs swans made out of towels. The wifi is good, the people are kind, and we had no biting insects, although we saw many amazing insects. We loved our stay here. As for beds, be aware that the bunkbed room is a twin and a full, not 2 twins and a full (it was a bit unclear).

Wooden shack, iron roof, no windows

Publié le 31 déc. 2019 sur HomeAway
The owners are lovely, kind people and I hate to write this negative review. The building has no windows, no screens, just open windows and wooden shutters. We checked out after one night and found two lovely modern hotel rooms in Santa Elena that for the same price that included a large breakfast. (Plus modern toilets, maid service etc.) I'm very used to rustic accommodations, but this was poor value for money.

Likewise, very lovely people. Here is a note about the house: Most buildings in Costa Rica have iron roofs. In this sense, the house is no different. We live in a very safe area of the country in an idyllic location amidst rivers and mountains, so the windows do not need screens. We could have provided mosquito netting had the guest reached out to ask. But as there are few bugs, we did not think to offer them at this time of year. We had a couple with a baby sleeping in the house for a month as they came to do volunteer work with us at our Sustainability Demonstration Center, and they found it very peaceful and loved being so close to the farm animals and the river. But it is true that this house is not for everyone. It is not made out of wood, by the way. It is cement construction, but definitely very rustic. It does have a "modern" normal toilet as it looks from the review that it does not. Indeed Santa Elena is full of cheap hotels and crowds; this place is for those people who treasure nature, peace and safety more than the creature comforts they have at home, and for those who want their money to support a worthwhile cause, such as our Center. We encourage those looking into booking Panorama, to think about what kind of experience they seek.. if you seek a modern hotel room with maid service, Panorama is not it. But if you are looking to be in nature and the real Costa Rica and all that comes with it, then you have found the right place.
