The property has potential to be great. Great location. Great accommodations. However, the front desk had no staff. There was an electronic keypad for check in and check out. And there were many issues. Even saw a person in the parking lot who was attempting to check out with a person over the phone. I’m still working thru multiple charges on my card. I hope they can figure things out. It’s got great potential!

This place was perfectly put together, clean, elegant, and the restaurant is next level. Everything we tried I’m already craving again. The staff was friendly and helpful at every turn, they were fully booked but made me and my guest feel well taken care of.

This was billed as a boutique hotel, when we got there, there was supposed to be some check in at the front desk with nobody there and on a iPad. The iPad was showing that I owed more money and I had already paid in full for the visit. Thank God, the restaurant manager was able to come and help us because it was wanting me to basically pay double. When we got to the bedroom with a king size bed in it on both sides of the king size bed there was a foot and a half a room is all so the room was actually small compared to the bed. The bathroom was good size and fairly well stocked. I did appreciate that they had some Q-tips in the bathroom which I used, and they came in conveniently. As for the room itself, the person who picked out the fixtures for the room did not take very good care or was not looking to color coordinate to a whole lot. Nothing seemed to match the lamp. One was white one was dark brown off color, black something like that, the stand at the TV was on was wood with metal which kind of went with the one lamp their lights in the room work from several different switches. The the light fixture in the middle of the ceiling did not go with anything in the room. And it was an ornate type of fixture and did not go with the room at all. The room was easy to access, however, it was next-door to the kitchen and the public restrooms and on a Saturday night there was a lot of noise all night long, which made it very difficult to get any sleep. The hotel was Miami lifestyle.

This is sure to become the new gem of the gulf coast. Revitalizing the old downtown is going to lead to a new golden age for this area of town. Beautiful, quaint, boutique in style, this is destined to go down as THE place to stay. Plus it’s only a block away from the Amtrak station. Definitely one to repeat.

This may be the coolest property in Gulfport. What a really great find Hotel Vela was. Our only disappointment was that we were passing through when the restaurant was not open. Sounds like a reason to go back.

Very cute chic hotel.

We stayed one night after dinner in Gulfport on New Years Eve. Our room was right after you opened the door to the hallway - room 10. Clean, comfortable, spacious, updated. There were a couple drawbacks to this particular room. Every time the heavy door opened and closed to the hallway; we heard it. Also, there is a square cutout in the room - on the other side in the elevator. - heard that all night too. Heard the TV and the snoring in the next room all night. I feel that perhaps it just wasn't soundproofed very well. I would stay here again - just in a different room. Check out is 11 instead of the usual 10- That was nice. Ther is a bar downstairs that was closed to the public, but I would like to get a reservation next time.

The Gulf Coast's Hidden Gem

From my first contact with the hotel via phone, I felt very comfortable and excited about our pending stay. The staff member answered my few questions and was very helpful and friendly. Upon arrival, we were greeted graciously and with the warmth that made us feel greatly appreciated. Then came the room. We were amazed at first glance. It was very spacious, warm, cozy, and comfortable beyond measure. The architecture was exquisite and furnishings were perfect. The bathroom was one of the largest we have ever encountered, with the shower stall large enough for 4 people, literally. They even had a Nespresso coffee maker, which gave us a divine cup of coffee. The mini fridge was stock with some local breweries selections, for a fee of course. The lounge and restaurant were very comfortable and offered great selections for food and refreshments. The staff was definitely the most friendly and personable we have been around in years, throughout all of our travels. We highly recommend staying at the Hotel Vela and I promise you won't be disappointed in any phase of your stay. We can't wait to return for a longer stay. We have already recommended it to friends and family. A wonder experience!

It was a quick getaway to bring in the New Year. The spot is soooo cute and modern. The staff was extremely nice and personable. We ain’t didn’t a chance to try out the restaurant but we’ll definitely be back to stay.
