Beautiful Hideaway
Publié le 1 juill. 2023 sur HomeAwayThis is the 2nd time we stayed here. The house is very clean and Margaret is just wonderful. What we like about it is the seclusion. So quiet and peaceful. Deer in the yard every morning and evening.Close enough drive to all attractions. Hope to stay again. Highly recommend.

Deceptive Listing
Publié le 30 mai 2023 sur HomeAwayOverall the property is quite nice, but not as described.
When we rented, the property was not described as an active farm. All of those photos of lush, green rolling hills are currently barren, tilled, corn fields.
Many acres of forest were recently clear cut and fenced off. There are now a couple herds of cows on the property.
The owners claim the rental has 60 acres, but that's split between them and their child whom lives on the property. (This also wasn't listed.)
This property also has weird rules about trash disposal, they want you to compost the food scraps, carry some materials to the local fire department, leave other things on site etc. It was literally a 10 step process.
They also don't allow any fires. This is hidden on the post... you have to go to "house rules" and click "show more". I guess that one's on me, but what kind of cabin doesn't support camp fires?
The building itself was in alright condition. You can see a sliver of the lake from the house and the property was relatively quiet.

To correct a few points. The chalet does sit on 60 acres not a square mile. Our son does not live or have animals on the property. We have a crop rotation in front to keep our view. The picture was taken when hay had been in the field. There are many acres of woods we own on the opposite side of our quarter mile driveway. Fenced in cows are not on our property.
Spring has just arrived in Northern Michigan. We had the driest May in over 100 years! The area is not as green as normal. The grasses around the house are just coming up. Haze or even smoke from the current wildfires in Canada can obstruct the view. We do not allow fires for multiple reasons. The most important is severe drought. Outdoor fires of any kind are currently prohibited by law.
We do ask guests to compost food scraps on our property and recycle paper, cardboard and containers at a local drop off . It will help our environment!

Outstanding Experience
Publié le 18 sept. 2022 sur HomeAwayWe had an outstanding experience staying at this place. We loved the large windows, French doors, the views of the property and Lake Michigan. We saw several deer including two bucks rutting. The kitchen was spacious and the island convenient. There was pots and pans of all sizes available, more than one could need. So close to Leggs Inn. We were lucky enough to watch northern lights, two nights in a row, from the upstairs balcony. The quiet outside and inside the cottage was so comforting, nurturing and rejuvenating. Only Nature sounds. We saw turkeys, sandhill cranes, northern flickers and even a bald eagle.
We are hoping to visit this lovely property again, soon and enjoy the beauty, peace and quiet once again. Thank you Margaret.
