Ive had some fun of late finding hotels to stop at that are off the beaten track so to speak. As much as a Travelodge is useful they are generally quite soulless.
And once every now and then you come across a complete gem.
The Marine Hotel is one of those.
The place itself is absolutely lovely, situated nicely on the beachfront in Hartlepool, its old school but full of character. The ceilings in the bar area are super high and the food is hearty and potions large.
But it’s the staff that make this place. They have a tough time having to run between the bar and the reception check in but they are fun, attentive and in some cases downright brilliant. I personally witnessed the night watchman take it upon himself to aid a man from Germany whos company had screwed him putting him in a hotel whose check in closed at 9pm and who didn’t have a room for the night. Despite the Marine being full, the lad rand dozens of hotels in the area to find the guy somewhere to stay eventually succeeding. Most others would have washed their hands, this guy restored faith in humans (just sorry with my stupid brain I forgot his name! I THINK it was Andy?!?! lol! If you are reading this sorry mate!)
Oh and to top it off they have Caffereys on tap. I hadn’t had a pint of that since 2005.
Amazing place and if I head back to the ‘pool I will be returning.
This is the second time we have stayed at the marine hotel and yet again we couldn’t complain. The staff are very friendly and helpful and the rooms are very nice and the beds are very comfortable. The breakfast is also very nice and there is plenty to choice from, also the hotel is just across the road from the beach and all the bars and restaurants are all close by. It is safe to say we will be staying yet again and a bonus is that the car parking is free and there’s plenty of spaces.

Liked: Cleanliness, staff & service
Disliked: Property conditions & facilities
Room was COLD no central heating on and was cold through the night (cpt cook)
The staff were amazing and friendly. We were there for a funeral and had the celebration at the hotel after, they made the arrangements so easy in a hard time. The onsite pub/restaurant had great food at a decent price. The cleaning attendants did a great job on daily service. The only thing I felt was lacking was an in room safe, when travelling from out of country, it would be great for price of mind.
The property is perfect with amazing friendly staff. Thw bed was so comfy and the shiwer was exceptional.
Its getting upgraded but we did see just a bit of mold at the top of the window. Its highly possible its just been overlooked.
If you plan on staying here, check there isn't an event on as the music is so loud that you'll be kept awake until it stops. In our room we could hear it over the TV.
The floors are also very creaky so there's a fair bit of noise with people moving about too.
Staff are very nice though and the rooms are ok, but it makes you realise how good Premier Inns are!
Loved the Suite we were in. Captain Cook suite. Perfect for the three of us. Like a miniature home/maisonette within the Hotel.
The gis found the layout of the room so fun and Isla (7) always sees things in whats been provided and thinks we being treated like royalty. It was convenient to just pay for the room only so we could get up bit later and juat pay for breakfast on breakfast menu as and when we were in need. Food was outstanding and beutifully presented on the plate. Only minor thing i had slight issue with and to be honest was really nothing at all was the low beam in the bathroom. Having said that its an historic building dated 1890 so to have the beams gives character i juat had be careful ducking once in a while. Staff were attentive and friendly and i couldnt fault them.
