So much potential....

Publié le 4 mars 2019 sur HomeAway
As other reviews have noted, this place has so much potential but the poor condition of some of the place overshadows the good things about it. Yes the refrigerator is rusty, the hot plate and toaster oven so old and grungy looking, the outside fence rusty etc etc. We were there when there were high wind warnings and the island lost power for 8 hours. Our property manager was kind enough to leave us a flashlight. And yes we used the towels they provided to deal with all the rain water that leaked in due to the poor design of the place. Dead palm fronds were left in the yard the entire week. It really looks like they spend no time on maintenance. However the bathroom appears to be newly-remodeled. All the bathroom fixtures are new. Fresh bright towels add so much cheer to the place! If only they had thought to paint the shelves in the bathroom instead of leaving them plain plywood. Many things like this we could go on and on about. The location was perfect for us. We had family staying nearby so we never cooked a meal and just kept snacks in the refrigerator. I can't imagine staying and trying to cook in the kitchen. Because we read the reviews before we came, we had lowered our expectations so we weren't overly disappointed. The views were spectacular. With just some work this place could be fabulous.

The property was fine but there was no beach in front in January when we were there. Maybe the sand returns at other times of the year. The on site manager was very, very nice and full of information. He made the stay good. But I rented the unit because it was supposed to be right on the beach. Very basic accommodations but adequate.

Amazing location!

We stopped in Hawaii on our way home from a trip to Japan. We were exhausted and wanted to be right on the water to relax and recharge. This home did not disappoint! We loved sitting in the back watching the water drinking our coffee in the mornings. We also enjoyed how dark it is at night so you can also sit out back and see millions of stars. We got lucky as the rain had stopped the day we arrived and it stayed dry our whole trip. The weather was perfect, and this location really allowed us to get around the island easily and relax just like we were hoping to do. The house is quaint and has just what you need. Kamoku came out and met us as we arrived and shook our hands and let us know that if we needed anything, he was a quick phone call away. Be aware that if you are looking for a true beach front home, this is not quite it. It is water front and has it's own little sandy part in the back, but in order to get into the water, you have to descend some man made steps into the water and it's a bit rocky right there. It is a quick 2 minute walk down the road to an actual beach where the water is nice and clear of rocks and shallow for quite a ways out. We will definitely stay here again in the future and would highly recommend this to friends.

Renter beware

Location is fabulous. Sunrises off the charts. If you have no expectations for cleanliness, conditions of property, and amenities besides lowbagging basics, then this is as close to a "surf hut" experience as you are likely to get. Manager was friendly. But there is no excuse for lack of attention to the property and realistic expectations of guests. Bring your own salt, pepper and sugar. Appliances are old and rusty, yet functional. We found 2" of frost in the freezer and somebody's old something. That said, we had a fabulous stay.

Okay if you're on a tight budget -- location is good

Yes, it's right on the ocean (no beach off of back, but accessible beach is a short walk), which is nice enough. But the unit itself is rather shabby, and in need of TLC. When it rained steadily, water seeped up and covered half of the front "room" (the kitchen section of the studio). The unit isn't elevated off of ground like most places in Oahu, but instead is set about 8 inches INTO the ground, so it's LOWER than the grass outside.... so water comes up from the ground below when it rains. We were told just to put towels all over the floor. Of course, that would be a costly fix, but in other ways, just a little effort (and very minimal cost) could bump the unit up quite a bit. Examples -- old drapes that separate bed area from kitchen sink area were missing a bunch of little hooks, so it hung all off-kilter. Toaster oven tray -- ICK. Two-burner hotplate was dirty -- a bunch of gunky black powder fell out when I leaned it up. No dish-drain, no dishtowel, no bathmat, no potholder. There's one light-switch for kitchen area (fine), but only one of the three light-bulbs worked. These are all non-issues with just a little effort. It would really really help to have a little cupboard (which there is plenty of room for) in the bedroom area. We were there for 8 days, and I kept my clothes in the small TV cabinet with the tourist pamphlets. It would really really help to have a small surface (just a rolling cart with a flat top) in the kitchen area, as there was almost no surface on which to put the food that we bought. We really liked the location -- walkable to local beaches, just a few minutes away from the Polynesian Cultural Center, and very near to the North Shore, as well as a pleasant drive into Honolulu. But it was always a letdown to come "home" after a day of exploring. With minimal effort and very little cost, the ratings could go up quite a bit.

A quirky little getaway with an incredible backyard

Publié le 19 déc. 2018 sur HomeAway
My husband and I stayed here for three days on our honeymoon because we wanted to enjoy a little taste of the North Shore, rather than spending all our time on Oahu in Waikiki. We're glad we had a moment to enjoy a little Hawaiian authenticity before we left. Our hosts kindly emailed us lists of recommendations in the area, and the landlord was kind and friendly and gave us a few tips and offered his kayaks to borrow to use in the backyard ocean - yes, the backyard ocean ;P The inside of the property is a little funny, but you don't rent this place because it's the Ritz. If you're seeking a high-end resort experience, stay in Waikiki. You rent this place because it's a cute little beach hideaway - quiet, with amazing views in the back. You'll be hard-pressed to find a property with views like this for such a great price. Just rent a car and enjoy the area! Thank you to our kind hosts for sharing your unique property. We enjoyed our stay :)

Oceanfront location the view of a lifetime.

Publié le 6 déc. 2018 sur HomeAway
The location of this beach house is fantastic. We enjoyed our morning coffee watching the sunrise over the ocean as the waves splashed or crashed over the stone wall below. Crabs scuttled feet away from us and the roar of the surf put us to sleep every night. The privacy was wonderful. We were also in a great place to head to the north shore or south to Honolulu. Grocery stores are very nearby and there are many excellent beach parks within minutes. Everywhere was an easy distance from here. The beach house itself was adequate for our needs. Nothing fancy, but we lacked nothing essential. It would benefit from a cupboard or somewhere to store groceries. Think rustic cabin rather than luxury suite and you will be fine. However, this beach house is affordable and we think priced correctly for what it offers. The beach house gave us such a wonderful start to our Hawaiian vacation. The ocean front alone gives it a 4 star rating from us. Mahalo!
