Owner was a super kind guy. Room was small, dirty and full of bugs. Felt very over priced. Restaurant had good food, hard to communicate as no staff speaks english but its understandable! No shuttle or way to transport into town. We had to hitch hike and we ended up leaving early cause it was so inconveniently located. Place has lots of potential. Could be a super rad get away/ party place with some love.

Run down

Pour : Beautiful presentation of delectable fish dinner on terrace! Matteo served grouper and mackarel with rice and mixed salad the evening we were there.
Contre : Air conditioning did not work in the first two rooms we were shown. Entrance road and front gate. Cutting back of vegetation needed. Bug control.
Emplacement : The main attraction is Coiba National Park. Hibiscus Garden can organize day trips by boat from nearby but noisier Santa Catalina.
Hibiscus Garden is managed by well meaning volunteers with a limited budget and is located in an ever growing jungle next to a muddy bay. The saving grace was the excellent fish served for dinner. All in all, a disappointing and over priced experience. Only stayed one night rather than the two for which we had reserved. Some guests in the communal kitchen were too loud until late into the night right under one of the rooms our party occupied.

Hola Katherine, Thank you very much for your review! On behalf of management I kindly apologize for the inconveniences you experienced during your stay. After a recent change in management we do have a lot of renovations and improvements going on to provide the perfect vacation setting to our guests. A/C's in tropical climate, especially during the heavy rain season from October until December, do cause trouble every once in a while - we check and maintain them regularly and in case a customer informs us about a problem we're fixing it as soon as possible. All the best and feliz Año Nuevo, Nina

for the price of $33/day one should not complain.

Pour : most of the staff yes , i would recommend this hotel to a friend only on the basis of the price but nothing else other than most of the staff.
Contre : although they said they had wifi they in fact had such weak wifi that it was practically non existent.
Emplacement : my purpose was to search out property in the area.
However, the meals at the hotel were outrageously expensive, almost double what they were worth. I had ordered for breakfast ham and eggs for $6.00. the eggs were okay but the ham was of a cheap quality. bread was good. the beach behind us was very muddy so did not go in. as for the staff, they were all nice except the german fellow who served us. he had a poor attitude as if to say, take it or leave it. he wanted to charge me .50 cents for jam which, normally is included in the breakfast. nickel and diming us to death. The only good thing about this place was the price of a room at $33/day. Other hotels at santa catalina were all very expensive.
