Good with room for improvement

The place was generally in good keep including the room, except behind the curtains. Spiders had spun their webs everywhere resulting in us having to ask the reception desk for spray to kill them, so this was a big no no to housekeeping. Dining area staff seemed absent minded throughout the four days there. Tranquil and refreshing overall although I found myself wishing that I had booked into a mainstream hotel on several occasions.

The manor lost

This was once a very comfortable proper manor establishment but alas, it has been turned into a very average hotel. The public areas have been modernised but done badly and in the process, losing the manor appeal of old. Service was fine but there’s little evidence of hands on management. A real pity, but I shan’t stay there again. Simply not worth the money you pay.

Thank you for your comments. You are insofar right, that with the COVID-19 pandemic the world in general and our hotel in particular have certainly changed. Gone are the bar and the comfortable lounge with its soft furnishings and so is the wall-to-wall carpeting in all public areas; an imperative to prevent inadvertent loss of social distancing and the only way to make daily disinfection of all surfaces possible. As owners we bear a responsibility towards the health of our guests and our staff and we discharge this responsibility best by always being present and available in the background while reducing personal interaction to the absolute minimum. Sadly the choice is between “proper Manor appeal” with its cosy conviviality or strict adherence to COVID-19 protocol. We consciously chose the latter. With you we hope for better times and a return to more easy-going ways of old!

Perfekter Aufenthalt

Sehr empfehlenswerte Unterkunft mit ländlicher Unterkunft (Farmerhausstil). Sehr komfortable Zimmer mit allem Komfort. Sogar ein Absacker steht im Raum gratis zur Verfügung. Sehr hilfreiches Personal. Besitzer: ein auf Detail bedachter Schweizer. Vom Zimmer aus Sicht auf einen See. Sehr schöner Pool in gepflegter Umgebung. Habe in diesem Hotel die besten Chateau Brilland ever gegessen,

This hotel committed fraud and took my money for a Friday night stay when it was actually already Saturday in South Africa. I thought I was booking a Friday night hotel stay in the US where I reside (it was Saturday locally at the time of the reservation at the hotel). Expedia made an error and allowed me to make the reservation for a hotel in another country, despite the fact that booking a hotel stay for a day that has already passed is evidently physically impossible and completely illegal. Now Expedia is telling me that they have spoken to the hotel and they are refusing to give me a refund, and Expedia is stating it’s no their problem. These illegal and fraudulent practices are unacceptable and there should be consequences.

Hi. I would like to clear up this misunderstanding. By the time we received your booking it was already the next day and under no circumstances are we stupid enough to take money from a reservation that was meant to be for the previous day. We do not take the money from the guests on booking but only on checkout. It is Expedia that has your money. We called them immediately and asked them to refund you. Which they said they would. We do not appreciate this unfounded accusation and will take it up with Expedia as well.

Very pleasant hotel with an old world feel but some areas could do with updating. A shower in a bathtub where one has to climb in and out of the bath to shower is rather outdated and potentially dangerous as no anti slip mat was provided. The bar fridge was very welcome. Lovely roses in the room were a nice touch. Staff were welcoming and helpful especially the young man on duty at breakfast time.

Moorcroft Manor - Ideal Stay for Glencairn Trail

We enjoyed our 2nd stay at Moorcroft Manor for the Glencairn Trail Run, the food is especially beautifully prepared and plated. We'll be back in 2020!

The room was spacious and clean. But the carpet appears to be in need of replacement. All the staff were very friendly. The meal , breakfast and dinner were excellent. I recommend this place highly.

Mountain Views

Perfectly located to run the Glencairn Lamb Run, Moorcroft Manor on the outskirts of Himeville is an oasis of tranquility in the beautiful foothills of the southern Drakensberg mountains. After the race on Sunday morning we were given a late check-out time of 11h00 which was ideal. The dinners were delicious and we enjoyed as starters the Wedge salad with bacon-fat croutons, beef carpaccio and our mains were very tasty - the rib-eye steak and Mark's fillet done rare as requested. Saturday evening we tried the halloumi, chick pea hummus and crispy spinach and the Bobotie with almonds and raisins was perfect for a chilly evening. We will return to Moorcroft Manor in October 2019 for next year's Glencairn Trail Run!
