Domaine de la Barre is the perfect getaway, it offers a lovely retreat to relax and enjoy the beautiful French countryside whilst still being within easy distance of all the places of interest. The gite is detached from the owners property giving a sense of privacy but the reassurance that the owners are close by if needed. Recently renovated the property offers a high standard of accommodation and it benefits from a large private terrace with stunning views over the pool and surrounding countryside. Please feel free to make use of the large pool, covered terrace, summer kitchen, expansive gardens and the countryside beyond. There is also ample parking for cars. Locally you have the choice of many fine restaurants, sightseeing, water sports, golf, and other activities, not forgetting the world famous Carcassonne city and the canal du midi made famous by Rick Stein's adventures. Domaine de la Barre is just 25 minutes from Carcassonne airport and a stones throw away from many fascinating cultural and historical sights. If you're interested in history you can visit the Cathar castles and monuments of the region and learn more about it's intriguing past.
We've got the beautiful Lac Montbel nearby where you can swim or take advantage of the water sports on offer, the pedalos with a slide are great fun! Horse riding is also available round the lake. Just 15 minutes from us at Bram is a teleski business set on a lake, where you can water-ski, it's a really good way to pass an afternoon. The lake at Carcassonne offers swimming, water sports, accrobranching and of course the inflatable park (brilliant!) so there's plenty to keep you entertained.
You can be on the beach within an hour enjoying the lovely atmosphere of the French coastal resorts or heading an hour in the opposite direction you can discover the Pyrenees and the stunning scenery of the mountain resorts and their picturesque towns.
The lovely medieval town of Mirepoix is only 15 minutes away, where you can find excellent restaurants and it's Monday morning market is well worth a visit.
For wine enthusiasts out there, Limoux, just 20 minutes away is the home of Blanquette, with many good local vineyards nearby you can pass away a few hours sampling the local wines.
