20 year anniversary trip

The grounds were updated and very nice. The access to the beach, pool, patio, restaurant and bikes were excellent. They had just survived a hurricane so reconstruction was underway on several hotel rooms around our room. We had a ground level room on the far end of the hotel. It smelled musky like a camp smell. We stayed for 5 days and ended up coming home with the smell on all our things including the food we brought for snacks. We also now have respiratory issues from all the moisture in our room. The room looked very run down and carpets stained and smelled of urine. The dry wall in the bathroom was peeling and chipping and the shower head was old and sprayed unevenly. It soaked the floor outside the shower too because of how the door swung open. The room was truly beat up and should have been priced as a motel rate. We over payed for the quality of the room. We did however sleep well on the comfortable bed and pillows. The hotel staff at arrival were very nice and helpful. The food for breakfast, lunch and dinner were absolutely delicious. The pool area and patio and grounds were very nice. The 100’s section of the hotel needs major updating on the interior though and not worth $1500 for the five days. More like 100 a night. We also did not have a smart tv so no movie streaming for late night movies. Bummer!

Some room options we like were unavailable at the time of stay as the hotel was still trying to recover from hurricane Debbie. Overall a good experience.

Disappointed

Hotel is overpriced for what it is. Paid for a premium ocean view and could see a sliver of ocean. Requested a second floor room and had a first floor so could not enjoy it at all because we had dogs. Paid ridiculous resort fee, no idea why. We had 2 bath towels for a week and pool towels were almost always gone. Thankfully, we brought our own. We even had to go buy toilet paper. We called front desk for towels and toilet paper, but just rang. Bonfire was lit 2/5 nights there. We did request it to be lit one night and were told they would be a couple of minutes. It was never lit. Property was cleaning up from recent tropical storm, but rate should have reflected that.

I love the chairs around the fire pit behind the motel that atmosphere was wonderful. I will be back again. I do travel frequently. A couple of things that need to be improved trim the hedges along the backside of the motel for the sidewalk. And in my room need to replace the plastic covering on the lights very very dim lighting in the bathrooms. The light in the ceiling was burnt out but the LED lights next to the mirror we’re fine it was just a plastic covering that was yellow really bad from the recent lightbulbs the incandescent burn the plastic turn them yellow.

We have stayed at this property multiple times and it’s always been fantastic. However after this stay we won’t be returning. Upon checking in our room smelled musty. Noticed mildew marks in the ceiling. It was two of us sharing a bed. One night my husband didn’t feel well so I went to lay in the other bed. The bedding was filthy, The air conditioning made a horrible sound that would wake me up. One ice machine didn’t work so the others were often empty. The coffee maker in my room didn’t work. They told me is was most likely operator error. I’ve stayed there before with no issue making coffee. One day the pool was closed. Chemistry was off. I get it that happens. The next day it opened and it was disgusting. Full of dead bugs and dirt. When you went to the office no one would be there. You would call and no one would answer. I killed a cockroach on my wall. The shower makes strange sounds. They built a new restaurant to replace the old bar. It totally kills the view. The Hoiiday Inn we so much loved is definitely a thing of the past.

We booked a full ocean view room, but the room that we received was a partial ocean view. We did ask the staff about this, but were told that it was ocean view. Having been to the property previously, we were aware of which rooms were full view, and that was not the case here, where a separate building blocked our view to the beach. We also had to go to the front desk to get a linen/towel replacement for the second night. I don't know if they do not change out linens automatically anymore if you only stay 2-3 days, or if they had forgotten our room. We called, and were told that towels were on the way, but 45-50 minutes later we had to go get them ourselves. The bed was a king, but not very comfortable. On the positive side, the property is convenient and walkable, and it is pet-friendly. As noted above, we have been this property in the past, and had a good experience. It's possible that this was just a one-off, but we came away very disappointed this trip.
