Family holiday
Publié le 16 juill. 2024 sur HomeAwayBeautiful setting and grounds. Staff are wonderful and nothing was too difficult. Andie was wonderful with the kids and very helpful. Junior was a great chef who could not do enough to help in any way he could.
Villa in need of some renovation and update of equipment long overdue but because it wasn't a pristine home we felt more relaxed with the young children.

Family holiday
Publié le 21 juin 2023 sur HomeAwayThe property is located close to some local eateries and a small convenience shop which was handy but would recommend doing larger grocery shopping at larger stores closer to Nadi. The place was so beautiful with the view and proximity to the beach we immediately felt like we were on holiday when we walked through the door. We really enjoyed being able to go snorkelling/paddle boarding right by the house. The pool was also really nice and we enjoyed making use of it. It was a family holiday and the rooms were well laid out for everyone to be hanging out in the communal areas while also having their own space to retreat to when needed. The staff were just wonderful, very friendly and welcoming. The owner was very helpful and responsive to our needs. He even sourced some hard to find quality bacon as well as organised massages when requested and even loaning us a fishing rod and chilly bin without us asking for things like that. He was so helpful and just keen to provide us with a good stay. The massages were also so awesome and the lovely lady doing it even came to the house which was so handy. Though everything was very clean we found the dishes were very musty from where they were stored so needed a rinse every time you wanted to use these. The place could definitely benefit with a bit of maintenance that could be done on some parts of the property. Overall though, we had a great time catching up as a family and hardly wanted to leave. Thanks Joel and team!

Great place to disconnect & relax
Publié le 16 juin 2023 sur HomeAwayI’ve never done a holiday rental in Fiji before, as normally stay in Resorts, so was a little worried, but Shambala provided a great experience overall. The standout was the chef service & incredible staff. Junior, Mere, Adi & Sotia were incredibly attentive and Juniors expertise and care in preparing delicious meals was absolutely top knotch!! The host, Joel, was prompt in responses and recommended a great transfer driver, Donald, who we also used for a day trip to Natadola. The design of the villa is perfect with 5 large bedrooms, central dining/lounge/kitchen & a pool. There were a few minor maintenance issues, needs some new paddles for the paddle boards, and overall the property feels ‘well used’, but was reasonably priced compared to others we looked at. As it’s on the coral coast, don’t expect sandy beaches, but being out of the bustle of Denarau and the likes, is refreshing. Would highly recommend to a group looking to retreat and reconnect with warm Fijian hospitality at its best.

Trip of a lifetime!
Publié le 26 mars 2020 sur HomeAwayWhat a fantastic week we had at shambala. It was our little bit of paradise after our adventures during the day. There was 6 of us- 4 teens, and they loved snorkeling and kayaking out on the coral reef.Shambala is beautiful and had every amenity! The staff made it so memorable, they are so sweet and really blessed us every day with their smiles! We were spoiled by them, they even did our personal laundry every day. Our favorite night was when chef Seviri and the girls made a traditional Lovo meal, what a feast! We had so much amazing food, we asked the ladies and Seviri to join us. Our teen boys really loved helping them with the Lovo meal. We really thought the location was great, we’re not fans of touristy areas, and we felt that we were in true Fiji. Joel was a great host, and we can’t wait to come back!

If you love heat and humidity this is the place in Feb.
Publié le 2 mars 2020 sur HomeAwayThe property is located on a ledge over the ocean. Beautiful views in every way and couldn't have been more pleased. The place is in dire need of an update. Decking can be an issue with so many old boards that have seen there days. Equipment, A/C weak at best and broken in some locations, toaster, coffee pot, and french press broken, can openers broken had to use knives till we went and bought one. It had no fans on the deck or in the main house and Joel I found out fixed two of them while we were there in the bedrooms which were a lifesaver, I saw him but didn't meet him even though he was 5 feet away installing one in our room that was broken. That seemed strange.
The most amazing part of our stay was the STAFF, Joel had recommended the chef and we had him cook 6 meals for us in 2 weeks. The first night after missing a day because of plane issues in the states fixed us on our first night a Lovo meal. It will be a memory for the rest of our lives along with a buffet they had for us with some friends that were in the Parliament, and he holds a special office on the Oceania Olympic committee. The staff surprised us with the most amazing BBQ. Joel, this made our trip very special. The housekeeping staff were there for any and every need, some we didn't know we needed. They did our personal laundry every day and now we are spoiled for the ordinary, it's now back to doing our own. The last meal we asked the staff team to join us and we had a very nice time blessing them for all their hard work and service to the 11 of us. Our family's advice is to let the staff do your shopping for you, as the local fare is any and everywhere, up and down the main road but usually not all in one spot unless you shop in the large cities, I guess.
The place is for sale and I hope the new owners will throw a few bucks at renewing the place. It can be very special again.
My last advice is to believe the reviews about equipment and toys for the water, they are broken and need replacing.
If it weren't for the brokenness of the place it would have easily gotten a 5 STAR review. The Staff does get a 5 STAR rating and many thanks for the memories you helped us build for our family, they are a special group.

The staff have told me that the guests were very polite and appreciative.
I'm sorry I did not meet the family, this will happen often with guests, as I'm always on the run with other ventures and organising things behind the scenes as the staff managing the house are very competent to assist with anything. I do believe we offer something more than most airbnb/ homeaway would offer through out the world with room servicing and staff, I do leave the task of the house in there hands.
I'm sorry Jim, when I had the electrician Ratu install the new fans, I only dropped them off in the driveway I didnt come in, and didnt see you, if I did I would have said hi, I was just on the run to manage another project, i was sweaty and dirty, not very presentable. I'm always close by if something serious occurs.
With the water toys, kayaks, paddle boards, and paddles, unfortunately we can only stress to guests (not your family Jim, as I did not get a report from staff that anything was or wasnt damaged before your arrival, except one yellow kayak), not to drag them over the reef and not go out on full low tide, as firstly it destroys the reef, and puts holes in the equipement or paddles get broken, we dont ask for deposits from guests, nor do we go fully inspect all this gear before guests leave, we just hope they did the right thing or even that they will report to us that they damaged something, the last thing I want to do is ruin guests holidays on the last day or night debating on what damage they have done to the equipement, as I'll loose everytime, and I dont want to end guests time at Shambala like that, we just ask, that guests that guests are respectful to the equipement as we often have other guests arriving the same day or next day, please just let the staff know if something happens. I'm going to consider a new approach, and start again with new gear and take a deposit, possibly have a harder approach to responsibility of use, something does need to be implemented so that the next guests dont get this experience.
I'm going down today and I'll plastic weld anything with a hole, check out Instagram FIJI HOLIDAY RENTALS for the pics. With matters like this relay your concern to the staff and they will organise me to sort it out.
Next project in a few weeks the front decking under the sunset bure, also watch out for this on Instagram Fiji holiday rentals.
Thank you for your review Jim it was very fair, and we will work on it..

The Staff Made Our Stay a Rememberable Experience
Publié le 11 janv. 2020 sur HomeAwayLocation, location what can I say. Right on the beach where the coral was pristine and the fish life abundant. The property was a little tired and does need some money spent on it. But the staff made up for its shortcomings... the chef Savire was excellent and the girls were always bright and happy. We miss them all. Thank you.

Coral Coast - Beautiful, Property not in best condition and is for sale
Publié le 21 août 2019 sur HomeAwayThe staff was great and we were grateful for their kindness. The property is for sale and it doesn't seem to be kept as well as the surrounding properties. The property is in need of repairs. I wish that I could upload photos of the conditions.
1. The washer was broken for our last three days and the laundry room flooded.
2. Ant infestation in all the bedrooms. We didn't unpack our luggage in fear of taking the infestation to our next destination.
3. The pool was cloudy the first few days. We were testing our personal snorkeling gear in the pool and visibility was less than one foot .
4. A deck treatment is overdue. Which causes the deck to be very slippery after the slightness rain.
5. Be careful going to the ocean, the clay/stone at the bottom of the stairs is very slippery. My father-in-law had a terrible spill and nearly broke his arm.
6. Make sure you take inventory of the equipment. We were accused of losing two of the kayaks and owner threatened to charge me for them. Thank goodness I had taken photos when we arrived(which are time stamped) of the beach (which included the equipment). Below is part of the statement that owner sent me via email.
"Ive just been informed by a fisherman they have found one of the houses (shambala) kayaks out at sea, which is very lucky, And now just ive had my manager Sala check, it turns out two kayaks are missing.
You obviously have left them on the beach and high tide has taken them."
I found the statement very rude and accusatory without any facts or evidence. As a matter of fact... the kayaks, paddle boards and paddles are all unlocked (unsecured) and can be taken by anyone walking the beach.
7. The owner came out after we had been there a couple days to adjust the chemical levels in the pool to help clear the water and I found it strange that he didn't introduce himself to us. I noticed that someone was working on the pool and initiated the Hello and his only reply was Hi. Not a "Sorry that the pool isn't clean", "Are you guys enjoying your stay?", "Is there anything you guys need?". I only knew it was him because of his photo on the site.
The owner's attitude made us feel very unwelcome and uncomfortable.
Until there's new ownership and the place has been repaired, I would select one of the other beautiful properties in the area.

These Guests tried to hold a function of over 50 people, which I declined as they had no intention of being honest about what they were doing.
It was only when I placed there meat order after they arrived of over 60kg of meat that I asked them what they were planning.
They first lied, then decided to come clean a few hours later.
I declined this as Shambala isnt there for guests to hold a huge local party, as they were in Fiji to visit family.
My self declining this turned into very unhappy guests mainly because they could not deceive us. It was disappointing.
And now they leave a review like this?
I suggest look at all our other reviews and base your judgement on this.
I will say the beach can have some smooth rock exposed on low tide, if the sand has been moved from a high tide with big swells, but generally not. We cant change mother nature.
All there other comments are an exaggeration and an attack for not being allowed to hold a local function.
Pease note, if you wish to hold a function at Shambala Fiji, please discuss this with us before arrival so we can assist, as we offered these guests an option even after there deceitful attempt to go over our heads and they declined it. We require security, extra staff, just to assure nothing goes walk about as the house is setup with a family home feel, and small items to make this feel possible, we dont want these walking out the door.
I know now I made the right move to denie these guests to invite a whole village over, after reading there response, and obviously extremely over exaggerated attacking review.
Just be honest with us and we will be happy to see what we can do to accomodate our guests needs as always.
Reviews like this make us wonder why we share our beautiful house on the water in Fiji with guests like this. But we get them some times, as we all know that's how the world is, bit sad really.
