Very nice traditional house. Very clean. The host is very friendly and accommodating. However this house is best suited for 4 people or less, not for 6 people nor people that has problem going up steep stairs as the two bedrooms are upstairs. Also, with only 1 shower it is not convenient for 6 people that wanted to shower. The other two people had to find another place to stay since it was super cramped.

We regret that despite your visit, we were unable to provide you with a comfortable experience. We apologize from the bottom of our hearts for any inconvenience this may have caused.As you rightly pointed out, Hokomachi can be a bit snug for six or more individuals. Our machiya house is ideally suited for up to five people, with two bedrooms on the second floor. However, in order to accommodate the wishes of many guests who want to stay together with their entire family, we have set the capacity at seven individuals. For groups of six or more, we explicitly state on our website that we will provide futons (bedding) in the first-floor tatami living room, and we inform guests of this in advance.Also in Japan, there is a cultural tradition of sleeping on futons in the living room of a Japanese-style room. The steep staircase is a practical solution used in Kyoto, where land is limited, and we continue to use the original staircase from that time. We hope that you will enjoy the Kyoto lifestyle in our machiya house.We hope to see you again. Next time, we would be delighted to welcome you to our two neighbouring machiya houses for a more comfortable stay.

Top notch property that was very comfortable for our family of four. Traditionally beautiful with all of the modern amenities included. The staff was very helpful and attentive and breakfast was on time both mornings (ordered separately). We would not hesitate to stay here again. Highly recommended.

This property is incredible, like staying in your very own spa apartment. The staff were amazing & when we struggled to arrive on the expected day due to a typhoon, called us (English speaking) to give us advice & offer a refund for the night we would miss.
Miki met us when we arrived and answered any questions we had about the apartment and Kyoto.
If you want a bit of luxury then this is the place for you ... faultless
