We just spent 2 wonderful nights at Vilaeti guest house, and would have loved to stay longer. Upon our arrival, the owner welcomed us with fresh orange juice and homemade cookies. Later she showed us a studio and an apartment, that we could choose from for the same price. The apartment was a traditional Cretan house, but a bit dark for our taste. So we chose the studio instead, which was smaller but very cozy and has a private balcony. The breakfast (included in the price) was excellent, and so was the dinner (the guest house has its own restaurant and all the food was from local products). Unfortunately the mattress was a bit too soft, and there was no A/C in our studio (it was really hot). But the little village was so peaceful and quiet that we could sleep with open windows. The guest house is also ideally located on the Lasithi Plateau, being one of the last traditional places in Crete. We would definitely return to Vilaeti and next time we'll stay there a whole week (hopefully it will be less hot)!
