Best Kentucky Derby Trip
Publié le 13 mai 2024 sur HomeAwayThis farm was gorgeous, immaculately groomed and the most beautiful horses. Every mare had foals ranging from 1-4 months old and they were very friendly. Most came to the fence to be petted. It was wonderful to walk out the door or just look out the window to watch them nursing, grazing, or rolling in the grass. There was plenty of room to walk around the property for exercise and just to look around. The house was very nice and functional. We grilled on the porch and just enjoyed the scenery. The beds were comfortable and the AC worked well. We enjoyed the artwork and antiques in the house. The house had plenty of supplies, spices and condiments in the kitchen and cookware and dishes. The hosts were very nice and easy to communicate with. This was such a nice place. We would love to go back soon. Thank you, Laura and family from North Palm Beach.

Stayed for Keeneland and K3DE
Publié le 30 avr. 2024 sur HomeAwayThis cottage gave us a wonderful rural setting on a horse farm (mares and foals nursery and boarding). We enjoyed the long gardened viaduct-style drive, manicured lawns, horses and foals everywhere, cows, a peacock, several penhens, and small whimsical sculptures. It's very quiet with lots of birdsong.
The cottage itself was well outfitted - we enjoyed the interesting Kentucky artifacts (even Mrs. Butterworth) and pictures of equine winners. Our family of 4 was very comfortable in the living room and kitchen and had solid internet access for the TV and all our devices. Climate control was excellent.
As noted in other reviews, the bedroom setup is somewhat unique. There is a wonderful private primary bedroom and bath with a great shower on the upper level. The other bed upstairs is in an open loft and exposed to downstairs. Bathroom access is either through the primary bedroom or down the stairs to the second bath. Downstairs there is a small private bedroom (full-size standard mattress). The third bedroom has no doors, simply curtains over the doorway. The arrangement worked for our family, but some might find it awkward. Also, all but one of the beds had a foam-top mattress that one in our group could not sleep on because of back issues - they got the small bedroom with the standard mattress. Keeneland and the Kentucky Horse Park is about 30 minutes, Midway is about 20, Wallace Station is about 15.

Lovely Spot Amidst the Bluegrass
Publié le 2 mars 2024 sur HomeAwayThis was a charming cottage in the middle of a working thoroughbred horse farm. We saw 15-20 gorgeous horses hanging out in various paddocks. The cottage was isolated because it was more than 100 yards down a gravel road from the main home. We never actually saw the owner Kitty, although we communicated easily with her by email or text. The farm is out in true bluegrass country, but still only 8 minutes from the nearest town, Versailles (with several restaurant options and a great Bourbon bar), and 15 minutes from Keeneland racecourse in Lexington. It is a perfect spot for visits to distilleries along the bourbon trail. We were there in February, and Kitty supplied ample wood for the fireplace. It snowed while we were there and the tree-lined drive into the farm glistened with the snow. Although the cottage has 4 beds, there are only 2 totally private bedrooms (the others are in a loft and a curtained anteroom next to the living room), but for a small group (like us) this would be perfect. Our two aussie shepherd dogs were welcome, and Kitty provided good advice about attending morning workouts at Keeneland even in the off-season. Keeneland is wide open to the public and worth the visit, including the Track Kitchen. We were concerned about wifi coverage, but needn't have been as the wifi was good and easily handled streaming in the evenings. Highly recommended by two pretty picky travelers.
