Villa Linda Mar vacation
Publié le 11 mars 2024 sur HomeAwayThe casitas and property were great for our group! We kayaked off the shore, hiked into the canyons, loved swimming in the pool, and enjoyed playing the games available. These included ping pong, corn hole, darts, and bocci. The 360 degree view from the rooftop deck was awesome for sunrises and sunsets.
The road out to the casitas is pretty bumpy so plan on a 20-25 trip to town. Linda and Johannes were very accessible.

Eco-friendly Villa on the Waterfront
Publié le 28 déc. 2021 sur HomeAwayVilla Linda Mar was a perfect place for us and our dog. It was remote enough to have quiet time to relax, but close enough to town to reprovision or grab a meal out. Linda and Johannes are very kind and helpful, and try hard to meet guest's needs. They also kindly loaned us kayaks to paddle to Isla Coronado. We would definitely stay here again.

Beautiful n peaceful setting
Publié le 29 nov. 2021 sur HomeAwayWe stayed in green house. Beautiful location and ocean view from everywhere in the condo. Loved the hospitality of Linda and Johannes!! Also, love chatting with them and hearing their story. Remember, it is 4 miles of dirt road (common in that region) to the house from the city of Loreto.

Green resort in Loreto
Publié le 31 mars 2020 sur HomeAwayThis is a very unique property created and maintained by Johannes and Linda for the minimum in carbon footprint and the most possible in comfort and a novel vacation experience. So if you're looking for an escape to a remote, quiet, non-touristy, green eco-resort, this is it. The owners live on site with their trusty dog Teddy. They're very responsive and accommodating. The 4 casita mini-resort is gated and very private, offers a solar heated pool which is amazing since it's in the middle of nowhere, basically! The units are very well designed with high ceilings, kitchen, two bedrooms and two baths and a great roof-top deck. The solar panels provide some cover if you need some shade. We would have liked an arrangement of chairs and maybe a type of a propane fire pit up there to enjoy the deck even more. I did do yoga up there one morning and it's perfect for that. It can get a little windy but the deck wasn't too bad since it has a railing all around. The owners allow pets so that's great. This is a remote site and takes a while to get there once you leave town. As the owners suggest, it is wise to get your groceries in town and you'll be glad you did! Bring everything for guac and margaritas. Get ice, more than you think you need. One disappointment was that on the website, this property was advertised with a hot tub which is always one of my must haves. Well, the hot tub is a cold plunge because the owners discovered that the solar heater required to keep a hot tub hot rusts and has to be replaced within 6 months. Not sure if they've taken hot tub off the list of amenities but that would probably be a good thing. Not everyone needs one, but I like to have that option. They have 6 or maybe more kayaks and we did set out to the island with a couple friends, packed a lunch and had a nice 5 mile round trip kayak adventure. Morning is best and we left a little late so it was a workout getting there, but worth it, took us an hour and 20 minutes. On the way back it took only about 55 minutes. There are some trails to do hikes on in this National Park, but watch out for rattlesnakes, we almost stepped on one. And don't plan on using the eco-toilet out there. It was nasty. You'll just have to squat somewhere if you need to. We drove into town usually every day and that was an event unto itself. Very bumpy primitive road in places. Plan on encountering livestock, horses, cows, goats and lots of turkey vultures. Overall, unique adventure! Thanks Kuehls!

Peaceful Casitas
Publié le 16 avr. 2019 sur HomeAwayOur five nights at the Casitas were amazing. Flocks of pelicans, dolphins, seals, song birds, stark views, clear deep Jade waters, sunrises and stunning sunsets, just to name a few of the unbelievable experiences we had right from our front patio. Mornings were spent doing yoga on the rooftop with a 360 degree view of the mountains and the sea. Exceptional!
Although the Casitas are truly isolated and a 15-20 minute drive into town, it’s what makes staying here unique.
The bed was very comfortable, the layout very nice, and the kitchen adequately appointed. My only suggestions would be some light weight curtains in the bedroom to shut out the sun which comes in at 5:30 in the morning. We just got up and went to bed early, but there is no way to block the sun except to pull down metal shades which would make me feel uncomfortably closed in. Because of being off the grid, the shower is a bit underwhelming, but again, sufficient and it wouldn’t keep me from coming back.
We kyaked out to Coronado Island spending the day of one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever been on. The color of the water was stunning.
Our hosts were very friendly and gave suggestions of hikes and restaurants. They dropped off two books about the local are which was very nice.
We stayed in the green casita which has an unobstructed view of the ocesn with complete privacy. I highly recommend it, if you can get it.
If isolation, quiet, nature, and a slow pace are what you are looking for then the Casitas would be a perfect choice.

Beautiful Isolated Resort
Publié le 16 mars 2019 sur HomeAwayEnjoyed our visit. Accommodations were very clean and well appointed. Owners live on site and were very helpful and responsive during the booking process. La Picazon Restuarant just up the road is one of the best restaurants in all of Baja - family operation and the food is excellent and delivered with personal service - unfortunately only open until 6PM. They cooked the Yellowtail we caught on a local panga fishing trip. Only negative is that the beautiful compound is located about 20 minutes north of town on a dirt road - no 4WD needed but it helps - beach is also rocky which is somewhat typical in Baja.

Away From It All...
Publié le 24 janv. 2019 sur HomeAwayVilla Linda Mar has 4 casitas on the property, and I stayed in the yellow casita for a little over a week. The property is clean and well-maintained and bonus points for it being fully solar run. This is the kind of getaway where you are away from it all, which means stargazing at night with no light pollution, looking out into the the bay under the moonlight, and hearing the soft sound of the waves crashing onto the rocks. The closest town is about a 30 min drive away on a dirt desert trail where I witnessed a vulture with a snake in its claws.
I kayaked from the property to Isla Coronado for a day trip. There's not much to do on the island except explore and sunbathe on a beautiful white sand beach, all by yourself. On the way to the island, I did spot a sea lion, 3 orcas from a distance and hundreds of very cute baby grebes (they look like little ducklings). The sea life in the bay is definitely National Geographic worthy (whale season is Feb-Mar). I also snorkeled and saw a 1.5 ft octopus. So cool!
On land, there are many hikes to choose from. Johannes and Linda (hosts) have a book you can purchase to read about the history of Loreto and hiking trails in the area. There is Shell Canyon, an easy hike from the property, which has fossilized shells of about 100,000 years old. I also went on a 3-hr mule ride with Trudi on the way to the famous church and that was fun.
Johannes and Linda threw a pizza party one night where everyone made their own pizza in the outdoor wood-fired oven. They worked really hard to prepare the dough and sauce from scratch and went grocery shopping for toppings requested by guests. You get to roll out your own pizza and add sauce + chosen toppings, and it was a good time. The hosts are very welcoming and accommodating and I would highly recommend staying at Villa Linda Mar. They also have a very friendly dog, Teddy, and a cat whose name is quite entertaining. You'll have to make a visit for yourself to find out her name!
Linda and Johannes, thank you so much for your hospitality. I truly enjoyed my stay and hope to return sometime during whale season.
