Misleading Advertising

Publié le 19 août 2024 sur HomeAway
Overall mediocre at best. Very rustic. It was mostly clean and adequately furnished. The WIFI did not work for 2 days and owner did not respond until 3rd day when more data was purchased (data was used up). The furniture is well worn and beds not good. The ad says one bathroom, which is misleading as the pieces are not all in one room. The one toilet is extremely small and is in the kitchen. The one shower stall is in the middle of a bedroom, not in a bathroom. The refrigerator froze everything. The pictures show a quaint cottage but are misleading as they crop out alot. Also was very difficult to find from the street. Lots of overgrowth and the address is had to see as it is sharpie markered on a fence post.

OK- where to start. Renters are renting the beach. The beach is why people rent here, and not on Mackinac Island, where there is no beach or warm water in a bay. But you can still get to the ferry docks in 2.5 miles. There is a historical reason why the bathroom is next to the kitchen. For 30 years before electricity the cottage was fed by artesian well, and it fed both the kitchen and bathroom which both systems were tied together.. This water comes up from artesian water aquafers from the State Forest across the road. The bathroom has four walls and a separate sink, as well as it's own window. Yes, the shower is upstairs, but is very serviceable, although most people don't feel the need with as clean and warm as the lake is in the bay. The refrigerator is adjustable, and it was an unusually cool August (so it set for typical weather). My phone number is printed next to the adjustment dial, but I was never called.

Amazing property and unique home

Publié le 15 août 2024 sur HomeAway
We absolutely loved staying at this cabin. It is a one of a kind cabin, thoughtfully restored to transport you back in time. It's unique. A very old propane stove and irefrigerator add to the charm. Because it's an old home, don't expect to have all of the modern comforts - but if you want to connect to nature and disconnect from the modern world (like we did) then look no further. We stayed in the middle of July and the lake air was more than enough to cool the house. The screened in porch is a breathtaking place to take in your morning coffee, while looking at the tide on your a gorgeous semi-private beach. The hosts were generous and easy to communicate with. We loved the place and would totally return. Be sure to read the description well because it's not for everyone. There are some quirks - only one bathroom on the lower floor near the kitchen and the only shower inside one of the bedrooms. Again, classic lake cabins were built differently, and this house is wonderfully authentic. If you have a sense of adventure and don't mind the quirkiness, then it's a great place to stay.

Nice cozy older cabin! Very quiet neighborhood. Just remember it’s an older place but we enjoyed our stay there. Would recommend!

Perfect location

Publié le 30 mai 2024 sur HomeAway
Overall we greatly enjoyed our time here. However, there were a few issues. First, the freezer melted our ice cream. Second, we were basically told "good luck" about using the oven, which would have been nice to know before we bought groceries. Third, the heat had already been turned off for the season and it was COLD at night. Thankfully some of the beds had heaters, which was great. The fireplace downstairs is just for looks/ambience. It provided no heat to the room when on. There were only 3 beach chairs, even though they knew we were a group of 5. If we had been told in advance, we could have brought 2 more. Overall, the cabin was great. It felt rustic and relaxing. The location was great. The beach was perfect (be aware there are TONS of bugs if the wind is blowing the wrong way). We would stay here again at the price we paid, but not at high season prices.

Great place to stay!

We enjoyed our stay. Quiet and love the beach right out the back door! Water is clear and shallow. Perfect for our 3 year old. Home is close to Mackinaw City. The home is an older home, which we liked. It had everything we needed for our stay. Ross was very kind and answered any questions we had. We will definitely be back!

This cottage had everything we needed-a screened in porch with a swing and a great breeeze - its own little dune walk to a private beach (with a nice grill and picnic table in the shade) 4 nice chairs on the beach for sunning, napping and star gazing.!!! We had the feeling of being in our Grandmothers family cottage NO T.V was a plus!!!!

Stunning view, beautiful cottage & QUIET 🥰

If you're looking for a place to rest and rejuvenate, this is it. Every inch of this gorgeous cottage has a story to tell. The doors, windows, fireplace, floors, walls, etc. have all seen more than a century of life being lived. Leave all your negative energy behind and come sit on the porch or beach and breath in the positivity and beauty the great lake has to offer.

Keep searching

The location of this cottage is worth the trip, but there are nicer homes on the same beach that cost less. Yes, the cottage is old and a bit rustic, but what was so disappointing and insulting was that there was no effort made to make the stay more comfortable. The oven didn’t work, there was no propane tank for the grill, the 1950s fridge froze all of our food, the provided crockpot and the microwave were at least 30 years old and tired and small, there was no plunger for the one toilet, the heater didn’t work, and the shower stall is in the middle of a bedroom. The couches and beds looked like they were bought at garage sale and the beach chairs were torn and cracked. For the money each week’s rental brings in, there’s no excuse to not update the few creature comforts that could make a family’s stay more pleasant.

Really, so if there are nicer homes, why did you rent our's. If you don't mind having only a single lot on the beachfront, then our double lot, with more privacy will not be important.. Your kids plugged the toilet, and we didn't charge you the maintenance charge to send someone there. As for the price in a peak week of the summer, it's always less to rent in Miami in August than in January. Us owners in seasonal markets have a relatively brief window. Also, it is always cheaper if they only rent by the week, as many do. The website shows and sorts by price per night... usually significantly lower if there is a week requirement. As for operating the oven in august, if a request had been made, we could have lit it for you. We get very few requests for the oven in August. Likewise, the heater is off for July and August. Really what you are paying for is the beach. Let's make no mistake about it. You can get the Four Seasons on the expressway for much less, but you can't walk down a sandy 50' path to the beach. As for the furnace not working in the first half of August... that's because it's turned off. Again, if you had asked, we could have turned the gas on, but we never had that request before in August. We offer a trip back in time, and combine it with an unusual micro-natural environment. We have sand, warmed bay water and cool on-shore breezes. Ross
