Excellent place to chill in the summer
Posted Sep. 12, 2024 on HomeAwayNice house, the description is pretty accurate. Quite comfortable for 8 people. We stayed in the mid of summer; the pool was very warm. The river was also warm and good for swimming.
The things to pay attention to:
- during hot days A/C works to full capacity.
- the closest store is 10-15 min away, not walkable
- if you are uncomfortable driving steep up/down hill, and sharp turns, consider staying elsewhere.

A unique house in a beautiful location
Posted Aug. 25, 2024 on HomeAwayWe had a fantastic stay. The house is spacious and well equipped, with tremendous views. The hosts were welcoming when we arrived. We loved eating under the pergola, sitting by the pool and under the trees in the hot afternoons, and paddling over to the beach in the early evening. We stocked up at local supermarkets and ate in every evening. We loved visiting Pala, Ribadouro and the Bestanca valley, the Paiva walkways and beaches.if the weather had been cooler and we had longer we would have ventured further up river but drive times are quite long- so we will have to come back!

Extraordinary
Posted Aug. 23, 2024 on HomeAwayWe were 9 family members, parents and children. The place is amazing, clean and air-conditioned rooms, fully equipped kitchen with everything needed, great pool, private access to the beach, so we used the owner's kayak and SUP. Highly recommended!!!

Beautiful home
Posted Oct. 8, 2023 on HomeAwayThis is an amazing house on an amazing property. The house is well appointed and spacious. The pool is enormous, and overlooks the river. We enjoyed watching the tour boats go up and down the river, and passing the goats and chickens on the road. The host has made it very comfortable. The only downside is it is an extremely twisty and steep road down to the house. But totally worth it for the serenity upon arrival.

By the riverside
Posted Aug. 14, 2023 on HomeAwayThe house had all the amenities necessary for a holiday with a family of various ages, in particular teenagers.
The accommodation was excellent and the layout and facilities of the house and its grounds made the best of the location.
The driveway in and out could be a bit daunting for some at first.
Our stay was enjoyed by all the family.

Spectacular villa on the river Douro
Posted Aug. 23, 2022 on HomeAwayA beautifully situated and gloriously remote riverfront villa with direct access onto the Douro for swimming, paddle-boarding and kayaking. The house and grounds are fabulous, well maintained and equipped, incredibly spacious (the photos on the listing don’t do it justice) and the location is peaceful with spectacular views of the river and mountain side opposite.
Plenty of lovely Portuguese towns, vineyards and sites of interest are within an hour’s drive of the villa. The town of Marco de Canaveses (about a 20 minute drive) has plenty of good supermarkets if you are largely self-catering.
Helpful information on restaurants, wine tasting vineyards and local Boat tours is provided by the owners in the villa.
The owners are very helpful and any queries before and during our stay were answered quickly.

Amazing stay!
Posted Jul. 23, 2021 on HomeAwayThe house is just amazing, as well as the owners. The house is huge, the landscape just beautiful. You have everything you may need for a great stay, from the spacious kitchen and living room, to an amazing pool and the direct access to the river with complementary SUP boards. Bedrooms are also perfect and easily accommodate 4 couples.
Make sure you bring everything you may need for the stay and you will not want to go anywhere while you are there.
The owners you very responsive and helpful either before and during the stay and even suggested a great homemade delivery food service that was so convenient and delicious!

What an amazing location, house and pool overlooking the Douro river
Posted Aug. 16, 2020 on HomeAwayHaving spent one week at the Penha Longa house, all we can say is thank you to the owners for making this great house available for rent. A perfect gem, in the Douro river.
We will definitely return!

Great place IF...
Posted Nov. 11, 2019 on HomeAwayIn our opinion, the location of property and the amenities (swimming pool, river activities, and outdoor space) are best suited for summer months/warm weather. This is not a property for cool weather and we found it difficult to do anything else in the immediate area. The house is lovely, the grounds spectacular, and access to the river is spot on. Owner and family were very friendly and approachable.
