Our home is lakefront with private dock, (see photo), on a wide expanse of lake tucked into a treelined ridge overlooking Lake James. Enjoy an expansive shoreline with wide open views and a wonderful spot to swim. This home offers views of Dobson’s Knob and Table Rock. Natural landscaping surrounds this 6BR/4.5 BA Topsider Home. Expansive floor plan and 6 bedrooms makes it the perfect home for family/friend getaways. Guests will have access to the platform dock, the deck above the dock, and several kayaks, including paddles. The layout is below: Maximum 12 Guests Total

Main level entry from parking area. 5 vehicle maximum allowance. Guest will have access to garage. The living room and kitchen are open to the dining area and living area, and all have floor to ceiling views to the lake/mountains outside. This area is very open and spacious due to the design of the home. A powder room, Master bedroom with Smart TV, and master bath with jetted whirlpool tub are located on the main level. The staircase leading to the upper level is open to the living area. The staircase leading to the lower level is enclosed.

The Upper Level has 2 additional bedrooms and 2 full baths. There is a landing that looks over the great room below.
The Lower Level has a family room with a 60” LG OLED Smart TV that is connected to router with an Ethernet cable, 3 bedrooms, a large full bath, and laundry area with new washer.

The WIFI plan is with Frontier and was just updated Spring 2023. Cable and satellite are not provided. Guests are welcome to use the Smart TVs to log into their own accounts. There is a table in the MB closet that can be used as a desk.

The main level has a wrap deck that looks over the ridge to the dock and water. Chairs for the deck are in the garage. The lot is very natural, so there are windows of views from the home. The lower level has a patio under the above deck with porch swings.
What we love about our home: The round design offers an open and airy flow to enjoy the views and interacting with family and friends. Our lot is mature and naturally wooded to offer privacy. Our community is gated and offers walking trails and lots of wildlife. You will feel like you are tucked away in a peaceful place, and yet you are only minutes from town.

The property has a series of stairs that lead to the dock. We suggest children should always be accompanied by an adult. We also recommend a well-planned list before walking down to the platform and dock. You will get your exercise on those stairs. See photos.

The garage is open to the guest. It also houses the gas grill, fire pit, and trash containers. These items should stay in the garage due to wildlife. Do not leave them sitting out unattended. Additional paddles or vest may be stored here if needed. The grill and the fire pit are only to be used on the driveway, not on the deck due to fire risk.

The home is set up for 12 guests and we provide linens, towels, kitchenware including kid’s flatware and cups, a drip coffee machine and a Keurig. Please send the manager an email if you need to know about specific items. We do not have any infant items, such as gates, cribs, or highchairs.

Marion is the closest town, about a 15-minute drive, and Morganton is about a 30-minute drive. Asheville is an hour away, Blowing Rock, Banner Elk, and Boone are also about an hour drive. The manager will send you area notes on groceries, restaurants, and travel.

We are in a private gated community and all owners and guests are expected to follow the rules below:
Boat trailers are not allowed to be parked in the driveways, if you bring a boat, you will need to secure off site parking. The manager can send you information on a location and costs.
1- No loud noise disturbances
2- No vehicles parked on the sides of the street or curbs
3- No fireworks
4- No groups that exceed the septic permit (12 in this case)
5- You must observe the no wake zones inside coves
6- You must observe the speed limits posted

This house was amazing. We spent Christmas here as a family, and loved everything. The house was so well stocked (probably the best we have ever stayed in). The views are breathtaking the surround sound system was great for Christmas music. The steps down to the lake are intense BUT the host describes them well. This house was exactly what we wanted and soooo much more… Great place book toda.

This rental was in the perfect location with stunning views of the lake. There was plenty of space for everyone to relax & share meals. The house was well stocked and had everything we could possibly need. We are thinking of making this an annual trip and would absolutely book here again!

We had a great time at this beautiful house on Lake James! Everything was exactly as described. Excellent location, only about an hour away from Asheville, kitchen had great utensils and cookware. Lifelong friends 60th Celebration
We couldn’t have been more impressed with this property. There were 8 of us who have traveled and stayed at many VRBO properties in various States. This one ranked as one of our top 2! It was clean, well equipped and well described on the site. Yes, there are numerous stairs to the lake, but we viewed this as our exercise opportunity. Communication with the host was excellent. We will definitely be back!

The Octagon at Lake James
Beautiful and unique house with all of the amenities needed for a great weekend. Views from the decks were amazing. Steps down to the water were numerous and the hike back up was challenging. Kayaks were great! Overall, great weekend.

Beautiful lake and great house for a large family
Nice sized living room and well stocked kitchen, convenient to have living areas on two floors, fun lake toys (kayaks and floats), steps were numerous but not that bad for an active group, peaceful part of the lake convenient to Bear Creek marina, quiet gated community. Would definitely do another family vacation here!!!

Great weekend getaway
We had a great long weekend stay at this lake property. We did have an issue with the air conditioning not working, but Karen was very responsive and had a technician out the next day. They weren’t able to get it fixed during our stay, but we made it work with the fans available in the house. And, Karen was kind enough to reimburse us for part of our stay. It is a beautiful house with lots of space to spread out if you have a large group. Would definitely recommend to others as long as you can handle the steps going down to the lake.

Amazing house on beautiful lake great for groups
The house was lovely with amazing views from the deck and living room. We were 3 families with preteen/teens. The downstairs bedrooms/tv room was perfect for them to socialize away from adults in the evening. The kitchen was well stocked with equipment (3 ways you could make your coffee), dishes, cloth napkins and spices. Towels were clean and fluffy. Nice to have washer and dryer on hand. The only possible downside is that there are a lot of stairs down to the actual dock/water. This would be difficult for anyone with mobility concerns. The dock and swimming space was great and not in a major boat travel zone. Nice area also to take after dinner walks in neighborhood. Would definitely stay here again.

The downstairs has 3 bedrooms and only one bathroom, that leaves up to 6 people to have to take showers every morning and evening in one bathroom, use the restroom throughout the day in one both room, and during the night 6 people are all using the restroom during the night and waking everyone else up all night. No dumpsters available to throw away trash, fees are charged if trash is not thrown away and yet there are no dumpsters Main floor master bedroom bathroom faucet does not work.

The location is beautiful. Stunning mountain views. The stairs were not an issue since we were a young healthy group but 258 stairs is no joke! This is going to sound strange but the dining room light was our biggest issue. We played cards every night and it was so bright we all wore hats to shield our eyes.

Beautiful and well equipped house
We were very thankful to stay in such a beautiful house on Lake James. The view was excellent and the kids and their parents had a fun time boating, floating, and fishing. The house was very functional and the sleeping arrangements provided spaces and privacy for everyone. Although the view and dock were exceptional, the steps down to the lake kept us in great shape! The manager did a great job too. Thanks for sharing such a wonderful place.

Good experience and was as advertised... A negative was the +200 steps down to the lake. This was documented in the advertisement so it was not a surprise. The kitchen was well stocked with spices, etc. A big plus was the use of the 4 kayaks... Lake James was great / beautiful. Not crowded on July 4...

A Very Special Place
Lake James is amazing; clean, clear, and cool water! The marina is close by and great for renting equipment. The property is perfect for a large family. They thought of everything! All the essentials were there and was very helpful we were able to do laundry while staying. Dock is great for swimming and the kayaks being there added to the adventure. The stairs getting from the house to the dock will keep you from needing to go to the gym ;). Really no complaints at all. Will definitely be back again!

Great lake house vacation spot
We booked this lake house for a family vacation. We really enjoyed the property. It's comfortable, was enough room for all of us, and had great views. We spent the mornings on the porch with coffee and the afternoons floating in the water. As the host mentions, it is a HAUL down to the dock. My mother wasn't able to make the climb up and down, so I wouldn't recommend this house if you have someone in your party who can't manage stairs well. We counted - it's about 270 and they go straight up and down. We planned for them and made sure to bring down what we needed (diaper bag, snacks, drinks, etc.). We really enjoyed using the kitchen and grill for cooking meals, walking around the neighborhood (there are a few small trails) and even used the fire pit one night for s'mores/an evening hang out. We drove into Marion (nearby town) a few times for grocery and errand runs. It's a pretty easy drive from the house. There's also a community playground/splash pad in downtown Marion for littles if you need to get out of the house, which we took advantage of. As one reviewer mentioned, there were a few spots where the house could have been cleaned better, but I've felt that way in lots of rentals and hotels--sometimes the cleaning crew is in a hurry. The check-in and out process was super easy. I'd recommend this house and host. Thank you for an enjoyable vacation!
