Thank you both for your review, it was a pleasure to host you both and we are very appreciative of you leaving the house in such good order. The stairs are indeed steep and not even in our 150+ year old finca and we do not cater for people with mobility issues by any means...stepped thresh hold, high step from kitchenette to sala and steep stairs. The child safety gate was bought from Leroy Merlin, our problem was the width of the stairwell and the munchkin extendable child safety gate would easily cover the opening to the stairwell. It conforms to all European safety standards. When in use it stops children from falling down the stairs. The downstairs door acting as a barrier for little ones to gain access to the stairs. The pool garden area is stamped concrete and the solarium is tile, I must point out that despite floor colour or material, the finca is south facing and soaks up the suns heat so yes, not only is it advisable to wear flip flops but to keep flip flops out of the sun! they go very hot and soft once we are in the mid 40 degree heat as you found yourselves....welcome to "the frying pan of Spain", as the area is known! We are so pleased you enjoyed the peacefulness of our village house and will happily welcome you back in the future.
