First to Stay After Beryl

Publié le 14 juill. 2024 sur HomeAway
We booked this property in May for a family of 4 and two small dogs. As our check-in day approached, so did Hurricane Beryl. Lisa, our host, was in communication with us days before landfall. We were able to reschedule to a few days later and have a really nice stay in Gorda. The house was clean and comfortable. She made sure we had everything we needed. :) While we were just a short walk over the dunes from the shore, we opted to drive and access the beach from Dunes Drive or the Visitor Center parking lot to avoid the mosquitoes. We hunted shells, built castles, boogie boarded, and fished. Castle building and boogie board were actually at the house already for our use. Overall, we had a really pleasant stay, and our host was kind, attentive, and patient with the shifting circumstances of shifting a booking around a hurricane. 💜

I have been traveling to Matagorda beach for many years. And it is the first property that I did not like. The house is old and everything smells bad, the house is shared with the host or owner, you don't feel comfortable or free to come and go, because she is always watching, you don't feel comfortable making noise. It is the same price as a single and complete house. I actually don't recommend that place. and they never return the deposit.

Unfortunately Yesse's stay did not go well and his review contains false information. I think the main problem was that there was a communication issue because Yesse does not speak English. I do not take deposits on my place, instead guests purchase an insurance policy through VRBO. Since it is an insurance policy that is purchased, the funds for that are not refunded. This is a VRBO policy. So, I did not have any deposit to keep. When Yesse left, I noticed a very strong cooking odor and that some towels were missing. In the past, sometimes guests have accidentally ended up with rental linens in their dirty laundry. When I contact the guest, they generally just send the linens back, When I contacted Yesse, he told me to take it out of the $89 "deposit." My home smells like the beach and the sea breeze - it's a humid environment. The upstairs space is completely separate and accessed through a shared foyer. As for his comment that I "am always watching," that is completely false. I've been renting this space for six years. I want my guests to have a good time - laugh and dance to the wee hours. I truly do not understand his comment about not feeling comfortable coming and going. I'm sorry Yesse jumped to a false assumption but nothing could be further from the truth. This review seems to be "sour grapes." Please read the other reviews to see for yourself that I am a very chill and accommodating host who does everything possible to ensure my guests have a great vacation. Not much phases me as most guests are respectful and responsible people. I'm so very grateful for the great guests and friends I have made over the years.

Hippy Beach House

Publié le 26 mai 2024 sur HomeAway
This property served our needs. It was pleasant and although living downstairs and sharing a foyer our host and property owner stayed to herself. We should have paid more attention to the line in description stating that the main living/dining/kitchen space would never get lower than 76 degrees. This is because there is no dedicated AC window unit for that area. It is cooled by fans and the bedroom window units. All in all even with temps in the 90's it was tollerable. It is likely the lower rental price is because of this. It is decorated in beach decorations and adequate. Just tired. Unfortunatley Lisa, the host had been traveling prior to our arrival so AC units had been off for a while when we arrived. It was very musty and took three hours for AC units to recover. This definitely soured our initial experience. We recovered as well and ultimatley enjoyed our stay.

Enjoyed our stay. House was clean. Main bedroom bed was very comfortable. That is always a plus!! Beach access is a short walk away. Beach was lovely. We had the beach to ourselves.

The property and Ms Lisa were beyond reproach! The house was clean and stocked with every thing we needed for a long weekend. I have absolutely nothing negative to say about our stay here.

Nice property

There were some bumps on this trip, but not due to the property. The property was great and the owner was easy to reach and she replied quickly. This is not a good location if traveling with anyone who has mobility issues. The beach is a bit hard to access if you don’t have 4x4 vehicles. I got stuck in the sand on the 1st day and walked from the small parking area off Dunes Rd to the beach after that. It’s a great location for beautiful views and fishing. I won’t go into details, but the 1st responders in this small town are wonderful! One of them even took care of my pets when I had to make an emergency visit to Houston.

Wonderful Weekend Getaway

Publié le 6 août 2023 sur HomeAway
Perfect for those on a budget. The property host was amazing. The house was clean and comfortable, and quiet! No guesswork on expectations; we had everything we needed. Matagorda was rural town meets the Gulf. Friendly neighbors and good folk. Be sure to bring an extra pair of old flip-flops for the beach, and watch out for tar balls - sticky! - though we never saw what we stepped in, they are out there! Nice, quiet neighborhood; we enjoyed watching the armadillos wander about the brush behind the house this morning. All in all, it was a great trip to take our teenagers, my 76yr old father-in-law, and our two dogs.

Two Thumbs Up

Publié le 6 juill. 2023 sur HomeAway
My family had a great stay in Matagorda thanks to our awesome host, Lisa! She was communicative and easy to get a hold of when we had questions. She lives down stairs but you would hardly even know it. We were here in the dead heat of June with 95+ temps everyday and the house stayed plenty cool with the window units. The sheets and towels were new and fresh. The yard for our dog was great. Lisa has dogs but she is very respectful about not letting her dogs out with yours unless you are ok with it. The only tiny compliant is the sliding glass door to get into the house is slightly off the track and it is very difficult to open/close but it is not a deal breaker. We would 100% stay here again!
