Avis Country Living in the City, Relax!!

This is the first time in 10 years of hosting that I am responding to a review as this experience was so disturbing. Jonie is a local Memphis resident not a vacation traveler. John meets every guest at the house to give them keys. show them around. asks if they have any questions or concerns about the house and reviews the house rules, especially when the renter is a local Memphians as in our past experience they are usually planning to have a party or large event at the house which our house rules clearly state is not allowed. Jonie said everything was great and she had no concerns. We have a large private building completely separate from the home with a studio on the property set back behind the house where John stays when he is working on the property. He chose to stay to ensure there wasn't going to be a party/event held as parties are destructive to our property, against house rules and very disturbing to our neighbors. He made it clear to Jonie that he would be in the studio located at the back of the property. Within an hour or two of arriving on the property she called VRBO directly (not us though she had our cell phones) demanding a refund saying the house was horrible. She chose not to vacate the property and stayed the night. She or her guests broke house rules by smoking in the home which is not allowed. The next day she messaged us through the VRBO app with some very serious allegations which were not true and demanded a refund. She said she had a video to prove her allegations but did not send it to us. We offered to come into the house so she could point out her concerns. She did not respond to our offer. No lawsuit was threatened but my exact words to her stated "to publicly and knowingly make false accusatory statements is known as defamation" as what she was alleging she had video of though would not provide us would be detrimental to our reputation and business. We have 10 years of reviews from happy guests traveling to Memphis and have never had an experience of a guest making such serious and threatening allegations against our home.
