Lovely stay
Publié le 3 nov. 2024 sur HomeAwayIt rained and all our plans got changed but we really enjoyed the little place we stayed. Host was super friendly. Little Italy II was an excellent place to eat in town. We will definitely be back.

Wonderful Place!
Publié le 11 oct. 2024 sur HomeAwayThe Ridere Den was wonderful and charming. The bed was comfortable and the room was spotless. There were fresh cookies on the table. We loved wafching yhe chickens, goldfish in thr little fountain pond and squirrels while sitting in the yard. We definitely will be back.

Weekend Get Away

Unique hideaway

2. Our stay was a Friday and Saturday so we can not speak to the rest of the week but on Friday night trains rolled through town all night and seemed to enjoy laying on the train horn. The location is several blocks from the rail roads but none the less was disruptive.
3. The only reason we stopped short of a complete 5 star review is at some point in time the Riders Den where we personally stayed appears to have had a leak, the floor is soft in an area or two and there is a definite musty Oder that bothered our allergies. The rest of the grounds were just fine, we did not enter any other part of the establishment so can only speak to the riders den but I suspect the leak/water damage was unique to our room.

Our historic town was founded by railroad tycoon Arthur Stilwell in 1896 as he made the push toward Port Arthur Texas. We are known as railroad town. Our historic home was built two years after the town was founded and is on the National Historic Registry. Town folk had a recent opportunity to petition for silent rail areas in town where conductors do not operate the train horn, but they opted to allow the trains to sound off as a nod toward Mena’s railroad history and nostalgia. Our apologies if the trains made for a restless night.
We remodeled the Rider’s Den in 2022 and we can assure you there are no leaks nor have there been since we’ve owned the unit, however the original structure was built in the 1920’s and there are some uneven floors. We appreciate you letting us know about the musty odor. We have a split unit A/C which keeps up the unit cool in the summer heat and we also run a dehumidifier to ensure there is no excessive humidity to make guests uncomfortable. Unfortunately we were not on site during your stay, we were moving our daughter in to her first year of college, otherwise we would have tried to readily accommodate your needs by upgrading you to more suitable unit on site. We hope hope this doesn’t dissuade you from considering us again on a future visit!
