Cosy cottage with great views
Publié le 17 oct. 2023 sur HomeAwayWe really enjoyed our stay here. Cottage is well equipped and clean and the heating easily controlled. Great views out to sea and good location for access to walks, cafe, lobster shop, hotel and craft shop. Garden was good for our dog and having dedicated parking spot was a bonus.

Lovely views and a peaceful setting
Publié le 6 juin 2023 sur HomeAwayThis is a nice cottage with a beautiful view. The owner left detailed instructions about parking and access to the cottage. The big issue we had, coming from Canada is being able to use the stove snd oven. We did everything we could, even looked at the manuals left, but we could but get the stove to work at all and with the oven, the only setting that would provide heat was the broiler which is not how we wanted to cook. As a result food that we purchased to cook in the cottage was not able to be used. There was a lack of basic items for us such as salt, dishwasher soap, laundry soap and even a dishcloth! We had to wash all dishes by hand because there was no soap for the dishwasher. There were wet towels left in the washer that were left in the washer and glasses and cups in the cupboard were not cleaned properly. Cutlery drawer was not clean but bedding was clean. We loved the village and it’s location so we would come back to Johnshaven!

Hi Leona, Sorry to hear you had issues with the cottage. Wet towels in the washing machine are not acceptable and the matter will be brought to the attention of our cleaners. Although we rent our properties on a self catering basis we do usually leave dishwasher tablets and cleaning cloths for our guests to use as well as our usual welcome pack which was left in the cottage for you.
Pity you didn’t get in touch about the oven and hob I would have been happy to come up and run through operation instructions with you.
I will certainly be having a word with our cleaners regarding your concerns.
Best regards
Steve

Autumn Getaway
Publié le 30 oct. 2021 sur HomeAwayWhat a gem of a cottage. Cosy, clean and so well equipped. Uninterrupted views. Fantastic enclosed garden which was perfect for our terrier. The fire was the icing on the cake and made for a most enjoyable experience. Own private parking too! Communication with the owners was excellent. Could not fault this holiday in any way. Super coastal walks and lovely friendly locals. Fabulous local gift shop and well stocked village stores. Highly recommend staying here. Thank you Steve and Gwen for allowing us to rent your cottage.

Well equipped cottage in lovely fishing village
Publié le 10 oct. 2021 sur HomeAwayThis cottage affords excellent sea views over this lovely fishing village. We found it well equipped though noted the lack of helpful information for quests or a comments book, so often provided in holiday cottages.

Thank you for your good review, before coved we had an information folder and a guest book but removed them in line with guidance from the portals we advertise with, but will consider reinstating them in due course.

Lovely cottage with great sea views
Publié le 29 août 2021 sur HomeAwayBright, spacious, nicely decorated and great views of the sea. Enclosed rear garden was great for the dog and for sitting outside. The rear garden backs on to the local primary school playground so there can be noise at times but did not find it intrusive.
The curtains in the front bedroom are quite thin and don't block out the brightness of the street lights so either need to be blackout out curtains or a blind added. .
Unable to use the DVD player as there was no scart/hdmi connecter to the TV.
The outdoor lighting at the rear of the cottage is poor which made it difficult to see at night time so would recommend bringing a torch.
The windows in the living room and the front bedroom do not open at all and during the warm days, these rooms got a bit stuffy/airless. The small air vents at the tops of the windows didn't operate very well. (Maybe in the future, the Owners could look to change the windows or improve the working of the air vents).
Would also recommend some soft furnishings be added to the living room; some cushions for the sofas, maybe a couple of throws to make it more cosy.
Would also recommend an information pack be made available for guests. Just to help with knowing the cottage rules, places of interest to visit, places to eat etc.
The cottage is in an elevated position in Johnshaven and gives great views but for guests less able with walking, then going up and down some of the steeper streets/roads may be difficult.
