A beautiful old building in an excellent location with really charming communal areas and very good breakfast, but the rooms and all the corridors need refurbishing. We started in a nice room with new, large ensuite but, during our first night the heavy rain caused water to leak down one of the walls into the bedroom (due to the lead being stolen off the roof, we were told). We moved to another room, but this was obviously one of the much older rooms as the heating wasn’t working and neither was the shower. There was no hot water from the tap in the washbasin and the cold water tap constantly leaked. The heating was eventually sorted after a few portable heaters were found to be faulty. We were given the option of moving again but we decided to stick it out for our third and final night. The saving grace of this establishment is Diane, the Manageress, who was always smiling, friendly, efficient and amicable, despite being on reception, cooking and serving our breakfast, as well as sorting our problems.
