Ideally situated in the center of Mount Desert Island, Echo Pines Cottage is the perfect "home away from home" for vacation activities. It's only minutes from popular "quietside" trails, including stunning Acadia and Beech Mountains. Entrance to Acadia's Echo Lake is only 3 miles away. You'll enjoy a view of the northern part of Echo Lake from the cottage's front windows!

The house sits on 1.5 wooded acres, on a private road. It's surrounded by tall pines. Watch for deer that regularly pass through the yard, and listen for the call of the loons from the lake.

Enjoy eating around the wood- topped kitchen island, or sit by the bay windows looking toward the water.

The cottage is private, but close to all the activities the island has to offer. "Downtown" Bar Harbor is about 15 minutes away, and quaint Southwest Harbor is less than 10.

The house has been outfitted for your comfort, including premium mattresses and many kitchen conveniences. You'll love the whimsical, "Maine" character of the place. And we take pride in keeping the cottage spotless!

There are two bedrooms, both with premium queen-size beds, plus a queen-size pull-out couch with memory foam mattress in the living area and a full size futon couch / bed in the back reading room. There are two full bathrooms, with showers and tubs, one upstairs and one down.

The kitchen is fully appointed, ready for family meals and gatherings! You'll find many basic kitchen staples, like standard spices, cooking oil, and storage wraps provided for you. We also stock condiments in the fridge.

In the basement there's a washer and dryer for your use. Laundry detergent is provided. There's also a ping pong table, ready for those family tournaments.

We, the owners, are local, living on the west side of Bar Harbor, so we're intimately familiar with the area and ready if you have any issues or questions.

We make every effort to go above and beyond for visitors to MDI. We love the island and truly enjoy sharing it with those who come to experience this fabulous national park. Our goal is that you leave loving Acadia National Park and MDI as much as we do.

Another wonderful year at Echo Pines Cottage
This is our go-to spot to stay when we visit MDI. The house is clean, convenient and the hosts are very kind and easy to communicate with. Highly recommend and we look forward to staying again.

Cozy and clean cottage. Well maintained. Nice location in the woods on the less busy side of MDI. Located centrally to all the places you want to go. Hiking trails, Bar Harbor, Cadillac Mountain, you name it and it's typically 15 - 20 minutes or less to get there. Supplied Welcome packet was very detailed and provided all the information you can possibly think to ask. We look forward to staying again sometime in the future.

Perfect Family Vacation
The property is very well-maintained and the owners have thought out so many details, making it very easy. The kitchen is beautiful and has a great island for family gathering. It's very dog friendly and there are easy walks around the house as well. Bedrooms are very comfortable. The host is very responsive and easy to communicate with. We enjoyed our stay at the cabin. Location was great - quiet, secluded spot in the woods, but close to Acadia NP and amazing restaurants in Southwest Harbor - less than five miles away. Kitchen is well stocked - one the best we've had during our many trips, beds are quite comfortable and there is lots of space to relax indoors or outside. Highly recommend the cabin for your Acadia vacation.

We loved the house. It was clean and comfortable, and we had everything we needed. My only wish is that it could have been longer! When we were delayed in arriving due to a flat tire, the hosts went to the property and turned on the lights for us so we wouldn’t have trouble getting in when it was dark. I would highly recommend this property!

Wonderful Stay at 12 Echo Pines
The house was wonderful! Everything was clean and tidy, with all the amenities needed for our stay. Lots of space and convenient to Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park. It was nice to have a washer and dryer, and a ping pong table. Big kitchen, with spices and enough dishes, utensils, and supplies to make anything. We even grilled steaks one night! You can't go wrong with staying here!

We stayed Here for two weeks with two kids and a dog the house was fully stocked and neat when we arrived. Your owner was in touch consistently and halfway through asked us what we needed and dropped it off the next day. It was a great location to get all over the island easily. Great Vacation Home & Hosts
We had the most wonderful time at Echo Pines Cottage. The house was an absolute dream- wonderful sleeping arrangements for the whole family, a gorgeous kitchen and outdoor grill for our meals, and a lovely back deck for watching wildlife. The kitchen was well-stocked with whatever you could need and the hosts included really comfortable linens and towels. Truly anything you can think of needing for a holiday, the hosts made sure you had stocked in the house. We felt very taken care of and greatly appreciated the hosts’ suggestions for local activities. It was a beautiful home and we all loved our stay very much!

Great Place to Stay on MDI!
We were looking for a place that was a little more quiet and peaceful, and this cottage was perfect! It was very clean and spacious and worked great for our family of four. We spent our days exploring Acadia National Park and Bar Harbor (about 15 minutes away). After a busy day we enjoyed being back at the cottage on the quieter side of the island. Perfect rental on MDI
We had a great stay at this cottage. It was a perfect spot on the quieter side of the island, which we wanted. Still a very easy drive into Bar Harbor. The house was fully stocked and clean. The owners left great notes and tips for enjoying the area. We have been coming up to Bar Harbor for the last 13 years and this was our favorite rental. We will definitely book it again

12 Echo Pines Cottage, Oct. 2023
We shared Echo Pines Cottage the second week of October with our daughter. When we got to the house late at night, the power was out due to a storm that had gone through that evening. Fortunately, there were several conspicuous flashlights inside the front door and power was restored early the next morning. It was clean and well supplied with kitchen utensils and appliances, bedding, bathroom supplies, and several games. The two main bedrooms on the upper floor were above average in size with comfortable beds and large closets. The owners supplied detailed directions for getting in the house and leaving, as well as information about things visitors might need such as groceries stores, places to eat, park maps and suggestions of things to see/do. We all had a great visit to Acadia N. P. and the Cottage was the perfect base location to do our exploring.

COULDN’T HAVE BEEN HAPPIER!
Echo Pines was perfect! There’s no hesitation in giving Ellen and Kurt 5 stars across the board. Communication was quick and helpful from possible govt shutdown, to a long list of favorite restaurants and activities. Echo Pines was the cleanest rental we have ever stayed in. It was equipped with anything you might have needed. While we didn’t cook at the house anything you might have needed was there, very well stocked! Nice washer and dryer, plenty of linens/towels, cozy quilts for cool nights, comfy beds, … the list goes on. The house was tucked away in the woods, making for a quiet, peaceful stay. Location was perfect and away from busy Bar Harbor. We were up and out early each day and made it to all major trail heads within 15-20 min. Some of the best restaurants we ate at were on this side of the island as well. Pleased with our choice to stay at Echo Pines is an understatement. We will definitely stay here again if we get the chance to visit MDI and Acadia again!

Centrally located with easy access to Acadia, Bar Harbor and Southwest Harbor, etc. Gracious hosts who do everything they can to make your stay as comfortable as possible. Echo Pines cottage was in the perfect location for our multi-generational family vacation in Acadia. It was clean, well-maintained and had everything we needed for our stay. Great location to explore Mt. Desert Island and Acadia
We had another great stay at this property. The place is clean, well-maintained, and well-furnished for a vacation week at the park. The central location is ideal, providing easy access to Bar Harbor and the park, and also to great hiking and fresh-water swimming, and Southwest Harbor and Bass Harbor on the west side of the island. This is a perfect home-base for enjoying and exploring Acadia.

Perfect Location
The cottage is located about as close to the center of MDI as you can get, right on the edge of the park with easy access to everything on "The Quietside" of the island, including plenty of trails, Echo Lake, Long Pond, Southwest Harbor and Somesville and the Sound--all less than 10 minutes away. And the bigger/busier attractions are about 15-30 minutes out: carriage roads, Bar Harbor, Park Loop Road, Ellsworth. The house itself is great. the location is very private, on a nice wooded parcel. We enjoyed lounging on the back deck and morning coffee in the enclosed porch. The kitchen is well-appointed and made for people who love to cook. The only disappointment was that we were there too early for the blueberries in the yard to be ripe. I didn't have much interaction with Ellen, just a text to let her know of our arrival and departure, but she responded quickly both times. I would definitely rent this property again.

We loved our private space so close to Acadia. The home is well appointed with everything you need, the games and puzzles were such a nice touch and a great way to relax after hiking. Ellen and Curt gave us the best tips before hand (the parking access for the park was key!!) and left us a lovely welcome note. Great recommendations for local fare and things to do. Thank you!
