Amazing lodge in the middle of nowhere. You won’t often feel more remote and have the opportunity to witness such a wild place.

Just to inform other people if they want to go there by car It' impossible... From Terrace Bay to Mowe Bay (86km...) the road was horrible, due to the extremely bad conditions of the road, (we traveled 25 km in 1 hour in a Jeep Toyota and therefore decided to turn around) speed was approx 25 km per hour that means it would have taken us 3 hours to get to the meeting point ( one hour later) not to talk of the high risk of damaging the rented car or blow a tire putting me in a difficult situation. The Hotel never advised us on the real conditions of the road and were not completely honest on the amount of time necessary to reach the location; if we had known we would have never booked Shipwreck lodge in the first place.

The road up to Mowe Bay is a standard Namibian gravel road in reasonable condition. Gravel roads in Namibia can be unpredictable and road conditions do change depending on the amount of vehicles traveling on the road. The reservations team has advised on a proximate traveling time to Mowe Bay from your previous destination.
We have not received complaints from other guests regarding the road condition. Nor from our suppliers who make use of the road on a weekly basis. We can confirm that the lodge manager made use of the road the next day to check on the condition and confirmed that you can comfortably drive at a speed of 60 to 80 km/h.

Off the map great! Entire staff was wonderful. Food was amazing given the location. Expensive but worth a two night splurge. Special kudos to Chico and Rocky ... but all staff great.
