Perfect Naples holiday stay
Posted Sep. 23, 2024 on HomeAwayComing to Naples? You'll need at least a week as there is so much to see and experience in the city and close by.
Our lovely host Paola greeted us and gave us lots of ideas for itineraries. It was a privilege to be able to stay in her lovely historic home, and the apartment had everything we needed (though we choose to self cater slot).
Excellent pizzeria next door, 1 minute walk to a fantastic gelateria, 2 minutes to an outstanding patisserie and lots of bread/veg/fruit sellers out from 9am to 8pm daily.en route to the nearest station Cavour (approx. 8 minutes on foot).
Do stay with Paola, we loved the apartment...enjoy Naples!

Unique and characterful apartment
Posted Sep. 15, 2023 on HomeAwayWe loved our stay in the impressive Palazzo De Ligouro, and felt totally welcomed by the family. We were met by Francesco - who was in town while we were there, and later shown around by his mother Paola, who lives there full time. She was a fascinating lady who gave us a tour of the building and was very helpful in pointing us towards interesting things to see and do.
The apartment itself is a wing of a much larger Palazzo - very spacious for a couple, but would also suit a family. There is a small kitchen that is simple but sufficient to cook a decent meal, and a very large terrace which is great for eating, sun bathing, and people watching.
The building is right in the heart of the Sanita neighbourhood, which feels very Neapolitan - in the sense of it being noisy and chaotic - but also very safe and friendly. You get the sense that at one point it would have been completely off the map for tourists, but these days you see a few coming to visit the catacombs, and some of the churches in the area. We thought the Ipogeo dei Cristallini - a small Greek era underground mausoleum a short walk from the house - was particularly fascinating.
One other great feature of the house is that it sits literally on top of one of Napoli's best pizzerias.
Overall, thoroughly recommended! Though perhaps the area would be a bit noisy and energetic for some people who are looking for a more restful place to stay.

Quirky, inviting and beautiful
Posted Sep. 26, 2022 on HomeAwayThis was properly one of my favourite places I've stayed while travelling. The host, Paola is welcoming and really takes you under her wing. Her son, Francesco, is also excellent and extremely friendly. Highly recommend this beautiful, unique palace in a fun, interesting neighbourhood.

Faded elegance; a date with history
Posted Jun. 30, 2022 on HomeAwayThe palace apartment is so spacious - and the large piazza gives views on a bustling working class neighborhood with cafes and a market. The gracious and most welcoming owner is a reason alone to visit - her family’s long history in Naples (and elsewhere in Italy) is fascinating. We stayed 4 nights surrounded by antiques, but the bed was very comfortable, and the bathroom and kitchen amenities fully modern.

Great for some but not for us I’m afraid
Posted Jun. 8, 2022 on HomeAwayThe apartment is located in a 16th century palazzo in the center of Naples bustling old town. The charming hostess, Paola, shares an adjacent apartment and her family have owned the property since inception. The apartment has a nice big balcony and is full of impressive antique furniture. However, overall it’s rather shabby, rather unclean and the purported air conditioning…something of a must have in Naples in summer….is one mobile unit and lots of fans. As mentioned, the attractions of the property and its location in a (very!) vibrant neighborhood may be enough to outweigh its shortcomings but, sadly, not for us

Great way to live like a true Neapolitan
Posted May 11, 2022 on HomeAwayThe palazzo is very old but very large, very comfortable and in an excellent location - near the markets, restaurants and walking distance to everything. Yes a little noisy but it added to the experience and we could shut it out with the huge wooden doors. Our host Paola was wonderful and knowledgeable about the history and where to visit. We felt like family. We would definitely recommend this place if you really want to experience authentic Neapolitan life.

You are sleeping in a Palazzo down a noisy market street.
Posted Oct. 17, 2021 on HomeAwayYou are sleeping in a museum, a glorious run down Palazzo down a noisy dirty market street in the old part of town. The sounds and smells of scooters make the terrace unusable and keeps you tossing and turning at night. One of the best pizza places in town is just just below the apartment. If you are able to go with the flow and hike back into the market, brave the scooters and hawkers this may be for you. Coffee at the Bar Peru is excellent. Owners of the palazzo are super nice and helpful. This is not an ordinary experience. Kitchen is new and washing machine too. Highly recommend.
