I can’t imagine a better place to stay if you visit Southern Patagonia in Chile. El Muelle is a boutique hotel near the water front in Puerto Natales. The rooms are large, modern and well appointed. The common areas and staircase are bright and inviting. But the highlight of our experience were our interactions with the hotel manager, Jairo. We were already impressed with the delicious eggs he cooked us for breakfast. But then we approached him with a major problem we were facing as one of our passports had gone missing during our stay at a very remote location at a Refugio in Patagonia where there wasn’t any phone connectivity. While we tried to make contact in various ways with the Refugio, Jairo moved heaven and earth for us that morning. Finally, he was able to get in contact with the general manager of the company that ran the Refugio, and share with him directly the details of our situation. Even though the Refugio didn’t find the passport at first, they kept at it and several hours later Jairo informed us they had found it at a partner company’s office. However, had it not been for Jairo’s efforts, we can’t imagine our situation would have been treated with the attention it needed to get resolved.
