Come relax in our country cottage and have a family or friend getaway! The perfect cottage to enjoy country life while being close to amenities of Blacksburg and the New River Valley.

We have the ideal quiet country cottage with sleeping accommodations for eight (8). The cottage is located in Newport, Virginia – which is 13 miles to the VT drillfield. In our cottage, you will find everything you need to relax and enjoy time with family and friends, including furnishings, large flat screen TVs, comfortable couches, board games, and free Wi-Fi. We just updated all the bedding, added fresh paint, new front porch furniture and new cozy blankets.

Upon arrival, you and your guests will find:
-fresh linen packets in all the bedrooms (trundle bed as well)
-fresh towels for both bathrooms
-toilet paper starter pack
-paper towel starter pack
-kitchen cleaning supplies
-extra blankets, pillows, and towels

The country cottage features:
• 3 bedrooms: 1 queen, 1 queen , a pyramid bed with a double and twin, twin
• 2 full bathrooms: 1 with a shower, 1 with a shower/tub combo
• A full kitchen: Dishwasher, oven, microwave, refrigerator/freezer combo, eat-in bar
• Dining room with table seating
• Living room with large leather reclining sofa and TV
• Den area with love seat sofa and recliner with a large flat screen TV
• High top table in the den –great for enjoying the views of the country, playing games, or eating

Fun family game weekend!
Stayed here for the weekend for a football game with our family and some friends. The house is close to campus yet it feels so far away. The host was very responsive. The house was exactly as described. The property was just gorgeous, especially in the fall.

Great for visit to Virginia Tech
This was a great place for us to stay while we visited our son at Virginia Tech. It is close enough to Blacksburg to quickly get back to campus/eat out but secluded/very quiet where our son could relax and rest after new cadet week. Susan was great to work with and was very flexible to maximize our time with our son.

Cozy cottage close to VT
Wonderful rural setting with beautiful views and a stream running next to the property. Very comfortable and well maintained country home. We loved watching the cows walk by every morning and evening. The house is well stocked so all we needed to buy were groceries and a few supplies. Lots of beautiful places tot see nearby and also only 15 minutes from Blacksburg. I hope we can stay again.

Great hidden gem
We loved our stay. The house was clean and had everything we needed. The fenced in yard and doggie door was a hit with our two pups. Loved the stream and the fire pit. We had a great time and will look to rent again.

Great home base for hiking, perfect for dogs
This was our 4th stay. We love the location - so close to many hiking trails and Va Tech. It is quiet and peaceful; it has beautiful views of the mountains, and it has a wonderful, fenced area for the dogs - and it even has a doggy door that our dogs learned to use. The house has everything we needed. It was clean and comfortable. When we were not out exploring, we spent our time in the sunroom. We hope to visit again next year!

Heaven on Earth
We enjoyed everything about our trip! Cows walking by early in the morning, the ducks coming by for multiple visits, our dogs running in the back yard. Everyone was happy and there was plenty of spaces to go when you needed a minute alone. We would visit again! Thanks!

Beautiful and Relaxing!
Steele Cottage never disappoints! It was beautiful up there and the weather was gorgeous! We took a little walk up the mountain, ran into one of the neighbors and we talked about the land, the pipeline and the history of the cemetery we happened upon. The cottage is always cozy and clean. And, the Hokies won! Great visit!

Peaceful and cozy
Four adults and 3 teens stayed a couple nights at this cozy and peaceful home. Timely communications with host, well-stocked kitchen and bedrooms, clean furnishings, and plenty of elbow room both inside and (most definitely) outside. Enjoyed the quiet and scenic countryside yet only 15 minutes from Blacksburg - definitely would consider staying here again during our next visit.

Cozy Country Cottage
This was a great place to stay as we dropped off our Virginia Tech student for the start of the school year. Really close to town (20min) but felt like a totally different world, surrounded by a babbling brook, grazing cattle, and a farmer making hay bales. It was relaxing and wonderful. Perfect location to host a little BBQ for VT students, take advantage of the great outdoor surroundings, play some cornhole, drink good beverages and just enjoy the country life. The house is rustic, and in the middle of a cell dead zone, but that’s part of the charm. It comfortably sleeps 6-8 people and has a great fenced in backyard for a dog (which we took advantage of). We loved reading about Mr. and Mrs. Steele who built the house and farm and raised a large family in the process. Great American story! If you are looking for a true “out in the country” experience, and need to be close to VT, we definitely recommend this house.

Clean old farmhouse with great fenced in backyard and access to little river. Perfect setting for a family get together. House has many settings in door and out for people to play games , talk and laugh. We found everything we needed here. Local produce a few miles away. The setting is spectacular.

Weekend Getaway for Wedding
We enjoyed our stay at the cottage when we came in town for a family wedding. It was super helpful that it was pet friendly and had a gated area for dogs. We had the Bride's Dad and grandparents with us and everyone enjoyed the proximity to Blacksburg while it was in a nice secluded mountain-side location. The property and location was beautiful, There is enough space on the land where you could host a little family bbq outside. The owners were very responsive to any questions and even helped arrange for their niece who is a licensed cosmetologist to do hair and makeup for the girls before the wedding and she did a great job. We wished we could have stayed a little longer but will plan to come again if we are back in Blacksburg.

Lots of Hiking and Dogs Love it
This was our third stay at the Steele Cottage. We love it. It is close to SO many great hiking trails. We hiked every day and never drove more than 45 minutes. Most trails were within 30 minutes. It is also only 15 minutes to Blacksburg - we spent a lot of time there as well. (We are VT alums). The best part is that we get to bring our dogs (2 labs) . They love having a yard to run around in after being on leash all day. The house is clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything we needed. We spent most of our down time in the sun room. We can't wait to return next year!
