Excellent kaiseki cuisine, great onsen baths, comfortable tatami room, and a few minutes walk from the world heritage sites of Nikko. What more would one want?

Amazing

Posted Jun. 10, 2018 on Hotels
This hotel provides fantastic service. I was initially a little bit worried about the japanese style room (no beds) but it was comfortable. Their spa was clean and more spacious than what I expected. There are several tubs outside as well, which was really cool. The food was amazing. The breakfast and dinner were served in a private room. The best part was that the room had a riverview and we could open the window. We left the windows open throughout the night and the sound of the river was really surreal.

Beautiful Japanese hotel

Posted Sep. 11, 2017 on Expedia
Pros: Beautiful traditional ryokan
Location: Nearby Nikko shrines and temples
This was a great experience of a traditional Japanese ryokan. The half-board with breakfast and dinner was amazing. Lots of excellent, traditional Japanese food. It was also within walking distance of the temples and shrines in Nikko. There is a road separating the river from the hotel, but the hotel still has a great view.

A Japanese Dream vacation

Posted Aug. 6, 2016 on Expedia
Pros: This is a traditional resort hotel. We decided that we like Western style hotels better. The breakfast was terrific. The hotel was clean.
Cons: English instructions on how the Japanese experience the stay. How to use the facilities (e.g. flush the toilet). How to dress, use of the baths...
Location: The location was great. We took the bus up to Kegan falls, which was a good trip on switch-back mountain roads.
My wife and I are are American Tourist in our early 60's We got to the hotel at 11:30 AM, exhausted and suffer from jet lag. We found that (1) almost no one spoke any english, (2) no one is allowed in the rooms until 3:00 PM, (3) we could not exchange cash or credit for Japanese Yen. The location was great - right across from the Temples - but it was pouring rain. We finally got to our room - but there are no beds! We found the mats and traditional mattresses, piled them in the middle of the floor, and wen to sleep by 6 PM. No internet access in the rooms. The other Japanese gust appears to have a great time and the breakfast was fantastic. There was one hotel staff who took me down beyond the train station to the 7-Eleven, which was the only place were one could get Yen. Nikko was very interesting, and there were may foreigners, but everything was in Japanese and only a few people spoke a little english and all instructions were in Japanese.

Weekend relaxation away from the hustle and bustle

Posted Jun. 6, 2016 on Expedia
Pros: The onsen - open from 5pm - has very good facilities
Cons: Offer half-board - there are next to no restaurants in the area, and those that exist close well before 6pm. The circle busses stop running early also
Location: At the foot of the temple area. Too far to walk to the train station.
Nikko is a sleepy town, but that will come in handy for many visitors weary of the pace adopted in Tokyo. A day trip will be sufficient to see Nikko as there is not much to see - however if you want to relax, this is a good hotel to stay a night in.
