Last minute booking - death in family and needed a space for large family
The listing shows large, clean bedrooms and bathrooms. When our family arrived at the property it had not been cleaned from the previous group staying. We were staying at this house because there was a death in the family and wanted to be together and not at a hotel. Our group organized and everyone stepped up buying cleaning supplies, changing beds and washing dishes. We contacted the owner and they took hours to reply. We did end up getting one of the three nights stay refunded but it did not help with the emotional stress we had already on us. There were a number of things broken (including the spiral stairs) which could be a huge safety factor. The views were great, there were backup bedding supplies and large living room spaces for family to be together.

Our family could not have been more pleased with the house and accommodations! We loved the open space and beautiful view! Paul, the owner was a gracious host and met all our needs. We would highly recommend this rental for family vacations. Definitely a little bit of heaven in West Va.

Big family house
The location was excellent because we went to Ace Adventure several Times and it is only 15 minutes away. The house was big enough for our family of 13 to have their own bedrooms and a nice big kitchen. The grill nearest the kitchen door had to be lit with a lighter as the igniter didn’t work, and the front burners flamed big but the back burners didn’t work at all. There are no towel bars to hang hand towels in the bathrooms. Very few towel bars for bath towels. It really needs an exterminator for wasps, wolf spiders, ants, and mice. Found all of those animals there. Bathroom shower drains were extremely slow. Some door latches only closed when locked. Lots of maintenance issues, but overall it was comfortable.

I was under the impression that the place was ok for my MS friend.IT WAS NOT! He was in a wheelchair and had a terrible time getting around the house. The tubs were all sunk and had no safety features to get in and out of them. Very unsuitable for a group 65 to 75 years old! We will not be back.

Gorgeous house, spacious, and luxurious. The kitchen is fabulous with plenty of space, more pots and pans than you can use, and even bakeware. Beds are comfortable, and bedrooms are spacious. The water in the showers is hard to adjust and comes out to hard, and the drains are slow, but it all works, and the house is so cool and unusual, we didn't mind too much. The views from the hot tub are fabulous, and the hot tub was clean and hot. It's a great space for a large group--even of unrelated adults because there are enough hang-out areas and privacy, as well as central gathering rooms. The host is very responsive. Definitely recommend!

Beautiful house
The house is clean and well maintained. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook during our stay. We’ve been coming here for three years. We like the hot tub, the views, the layout of the house and the location.

Great location if you are rafting with Ace
Fantastic mid-century modern house with 7 bedrooms, a fantastic kitchen, and a great view out back. There are two grills and a hot tub on the outside deck that the owner had ready to go on arrival. We picked this house because we had a group of 13 guys rafting the Gauley with Ace Rafting, which is only 10 minutes away. It is plenty big, with tons of parking and room to spread out. The only minor dings are the wifi is slow/spotty on the south end of the house and I personally don't recommend the pullout couches as beds if you are over the age of 13 (totally my own fault/miscalculation, not the owners). Also, the ice/water is not hooked up to the upstairs refrigerator, but there is a great ice-maker downstairs in the game room and the tap water is fine. The owner gave fantastic directions and some great tips on where to go out to eat. As a heads up, the cell signal in the area is hit and miss, but a lot better than I thought. Recommend downloading an area google map on your app as a backup

So nice we rented it twice!
My husband and I brought his parents, siblings, and their families to this house last Summer. We loved it so much that we rented the same place again this year for my side of our family. Personally, I want to re-create that laundry room in my house! It contains a second refrigerator, built-in drying racks, extra sink, and floor to ceiling cabinets. Yes, please! The variety of rooms allowed everyone to have their own spaces and still spend time all together when we desired. The rooms are beautiful and the views are breathtaking! Yes, there are some minor issues like any home but just relax and enjoy the views! Both sides of our family appreciated the nugget ice maker in the basement! Although we didn’t use it, we appreciated that a baby gate is provided to keep little ones off the circular stairs. The beautiful Fiesta tableware made in West Virginia is another nice touch! Our only regret is that we didn’t bring binoculars to fully take advantage of the views of the gorge.

Family reunion
The house was perfect for a big group. It’s a really unique, historical property. Gorgeous views, plenty of cooking and serving dishes, multiple refrigerators and dishwashers. Housekeeping was quick to deliver additional things we needed. Maintenance fixed a few things for us while we were there and he was very friendly and helpful. The bathrooms have original fixtures which are nice historically but don’t work perfectly like modern fixtures. The master shower doesn’t drain well, but that’s probably tough to prevent with old pipes.

Beautiful but unusual house
The home was definitely located beautifully to over look the New River Gorge. Convenient to do hiking and white water rafting. Large kitchen and the 7 bedrooms were all used. There were architectural aspects which were interesting and somewhat unsafe. A literal sunken tub with no railing, circular staircase which has very widely spaced vertical posts, dining room chairs which we did not trust and a bathroom sink which had only hot water… The large kitchen was very well stocked! The laundry room had an ample supply of extra linens. With daily hikes and using the hot tub, we appreciated having a washer and dryer. Overall it was a good place for us to stay.

Great house to get a large family together. Outside needs repairs (roof paper on areas front of house but shingles not up). Inside very well appointed but faucets and knobs very old and loose.

Fascinating architecture with a beautiful view!
This house is perched on the side of the mountain with beautiful views from the back deck. Spacious house with accommodations for the entire family. Large kitchen and two long tables for eating. Great location for a family reunion!

Wonderful accommodations for Xmas celebration
We all got to stay together with plenty of room. The New River Gorge site-seeing was close by and spent a few hours there doing the auto tour. Lots of hiking to do if you are able. Beautiful place and scenery.

Perfect location for Ace Adventures
Group of ladies stayed here to run the 100 mile rim to river ultra endurance race. It was the perfect location and perfect house for all of us to spread out and have our own separate space while still having group space. Property manager extremely accommodating. Beds comfortable, toilets flushed, some drainage issues with showers…but expected with age of house. Beautiful location. Will book again if in the area again.

So Many Things Wrong
When we first arrived we realized the sauna and wine fridge were not working. I messaged Paul immediately and he told me the sauna had not been functioning for a while even though it was listed in the description. He told me someone would come the next day to fix the wine fridge. No one came. The next day there was a large leak pouring from the hallway ceiling and the downstairs toilet was leaking excessively. The following day someone finally came out to look at everything and said they should have shut this place down a while ago because of all the repairs needed. NOTHING was fixed or done during our stay.

The house is the perfect size for our family when we come down to WV. The kitchen is large, the beds are comfortable, there’s plenty of living room space and the views are amazing.

Beautiful views, but tired accommodations
The location and the views were great. We had plenty of room to spread out and the weather cooperated for the most part. The house had some issues and we did call a maintenance man to fix a broken bed, repair some broken chairs (3), fix the icemaker, repair the grill, and look at the roof leaks. While the video wowed us, it was apparent that the house was not well maintained. We had toilets that did flush, showers that were very slow to drain, pooling of water on the roof deck and the toaster that didn't work. It is sad that such a well situated property with nice features is not better maintained.

Unique charming and spacious
My family and I were captivated by this gorgeous home. The house was equipped with several items most rentals don’t provide which was super convenient. Wish we knew more about the history of the estate! It was fascinating to see the blend of eras across the property. Bet you won’t find a better view to boot.

Property was adequately equipped with everything we needed, host provider extras which was a pleasant surprise, easy check in and out. The location was superb always available when in need, we had an absolute blast and I would definitely recommend, we'll be returning in the future.

Nice for large families.
Lots of room for family to spread out. Huge kitchen was great for family meals. View from deck was amazing. Enough room to do yoga on the deck in the morning. Exterior needs work. Driveway needs to be fixed. Bedrooms need blinds on windows. Bathroom showers would be difficult for older persons and need grab bars. Need more outdoor chairs and on all decks.
