Jamaica Family Trip

The house in itself was more than adequate to accommodate all of my family. We arrived on Tuesday, July 16, 2024. Miss Colleen, our cook was just amazing. She always checked with me to see what we wanted for breakfast and dinner. She was an absolute wonder. We were there from July 16 - 18. Our initial check out date was the 21st, however we had to book at the Riu Resort for the rest of the nights. The electricity went out on Thursday around noon. No a/c and the house got very hot. Miss Kelly the manager assured us that the electricity would come on “shortly”. We decided to walk down to the beach area. It was wonderful, with a good breeze which we welcomed. We returned around 4:00pm and the electricity was still not on. I had messaged Barrington and advised him about the electricity. He stated that he was very sorry but that it would be on again “very shortly”. Since the WiFi was very spotty, his later response communication was never received by me. Evidently he had sent a message that he had booked another villa for us for that night and he assured me full power would be restored the next day. In the interim I decided to look for other accommodations since by that time the heat was overwhelming. Remember, I did not receive his message about the other villa. As a matter of fact, I didn’t even know about the other villa until Omar, our driver, came to pick us up to take us to the Riu Resort that I had to book for 3 nights (which was their minimum). horrible stay!!!. Other positive reviews must be fake!!! House is large but run down, dirty and dusty. Air conditioning didn’t work in multiple rooms, toilets in two rooms didn’t flush, no hot water coming from sinks or shower in several bathrooms. There were cockroaches, huge spiders, colony of ants in bedrooms and kitchen drawers. The house obviously isn’t rented out often as there was no food at all in the house (not even water) upon arrival. Staff told us they had been hired 3 days prior — although I had booked for March, then rescheduled to June - and had sent a list of groceries and menu prior. Staff at the gate were unprofessional- shirtless and pants falling off upon arrival and throughout the day — fly unzipped. We specified that 3 of 7 members of our group only ate fish (no chicken or beef) however, we were served chicken on the first night. When we reported all of these matters of concern to the owner, things got much much worse. He accused me of lying and sent his house manager to check the house the following morning. She arrived at 7 am and barged into the room where two of my guests were staying waking them up in a very angry, hostile, aggressive manner. She spoke in a belligerent, taunting way stating multiple times “show me -show me” demanding to see the cockroaches and spiders. She wanted to enter the room where my daughter was sleeping - and close off all rooms not allowing us to get our massages. We had to rebook for another villa.

Absolutely accommodating!

This was a unique birthday celebration and homecoming. My family and friends thoroughly enjoyed. Things to note: -Great, willing, & friendly staff to include superior security and transportation. -comfortable bedding, cool bedrooms, and very clean house overall. -bathrooms with jetted tubs in each room -each room with a balcony -the hospitality is amazing. Things to keep in mind: This is Jamaica (not the US). Some reviews are unfair in the expectations. Some things are out of the staff and owners control.

Good Intent, Disappointing House

We arrived at the house and greeted by Nekisha and staff. There was no central air upon entering the home, only air conditioning in the bedrooms. The heat in the home was unbearable and made it hard to come out of your bedroom to mingle with everyone. Some of the TVs didn’t work and there was no running water in most of the bathrooms. I immediately sent a message to Barrington. He replied and stated that there was a burst pipe on the estate, mentioned low water pressure and air conditioners are only in the bedrooms. Everyday of our stay, we had no running water and no flushing toilets. Other issues were, mouse droppings in the kitchen cabinets, tile flooring that buckled in one of the bedrooms(tiles were later replaced that evening), the bar area looked dilapidated and shingles need replacing, the pool and jacuzzi weren’t cleaned prior to our arrival nor during our stay, there were huge cockroaches in some of the bedrooms and bathrooms, the air conditioner in the master suite stopped working, the oven in the kitchen didn’t work. We used bottled water to cleanse at times because of the water issue. Every issue stated above, host was contacted and he did respond, but I felt that he was just “responding to the message” to appease us. Family members left to go stay at the RIU resort due to issues. Staff was great, but shouldn’t have to work with the conditions of the home. Running water shouldn’t be an issue. Host should depict accurate facts about home. Would not rebook.

FALSE Property Descriptions. Just to name a few things that did not work or missing: Cockroaches in several rooms Property is not maintained at all Pool was dirty and had algae all over Billiards Hall dirty and broken pool table and sticks TV's not working Some AC's broken No Hot Tub/Jacuzzi Safes did not work The owner/manager Barrington was horrible to deal with once I complained, initially he was very responsive and professional. Once I complained he called me and put the blame on me, he had the audacity to tell me I am racist and I don't like Black people and I brought cockroaches with me. Unwilling to do anything for the things that were not working and had excuses for everything. The staff was horrible, especially the so-called Manager, Nikisha. The staff went missing for days and would not show up for anything, of course, they showed up last day for tips. One highlight was the chef, Dave. Oh, also Jamaican. He was absolutely amazing and handled the house all by himself and was very gracious. If he wasn't there we would have not been able to survive the 4 days. The other person that saved the trip was amazing, Omar (also jamaican), the driver referred by Barrington. He was very professional and dedicated. He made the trip outside the house fun. I urge people to read this before booking as you will be very sorry if you book this villa. I don't know if the other reviews are bought or what but it sure does seem like it. I have pictures and videos to prove it.

Yearly Vacation

Eight of us stayed for a week. The property was beautiful and the staff was awesome. Chef prepared wonderful meals and the property manager handled all our needs. We had amazing in-house massages. The manager and our driver handled everything. We had a few hiccups but our staff handled them professionally and always with a smile. The only disappointment was the description said there was a TV in every room. Out of eight bedrooms only one had a working tv. Our room had no tv at all. We would definitely rent again.

Villa of Paradise

Paradise is the best word to describe this wonderful villa. Upon our arrival we were greeted by the most caring staff who were one of the main reasons that our stay was so pleasurable!! They were completely attentive to all of our needs and willing to go above and beyond to exceed our expectations- even when we made minor changes to our plans. Kelly was our overall day to day house manager and she checked in frequently to make sure we were well taken care of. Dabbie and Stacy were sweet as ever and worked extremely hard to ensure that the villa was always beautifully maintained, Niko was so helpful in going to the market for us to pickup additional items and also helping us to operate the outdoor music which made our night time by the pool so fun. And Ansel, our Chef, prepared the most appetizing and healthy meals each day and made sure to accommodate requests for dietary restrictions. He also is an amazing singer and sang happy birthday for me which put the icing on the cake!!! The property itself was very accommodating for the 13 guests that’s joined me, and there was room for us all to totally enjoy our time. The rooms were well maintained and cleaned daily and we always had plenty of towels for the pool and beach. The only thing tat I would enhance would be the water temperature- not all of the rooms had warm temperature water which may have been a result of the number of people staying on the property. Overall I rate this property with 5 stars, and would recommend it to other travelers without a doubt!!!

A fabulous and relaxing retreat.

Our stay at L'Horizon could not have been better. I brought 11 people down for a yoga retreat. We did yoga the morning by the pool, and in the afternoon on the upstairs balcony. The staff took fabulous care of us. The house is large and beautiful and very clean. Ansel, our chef, did an excellent job with our vegan meals. Miss Kelly, the house manager, was so very helpful in helping to arrange massages, our 2 excursions and transportation for our dinners out. She even went above and beyond going into Ocho Rios to help us make a dinner reservation when Miss T's phone was not working (great place for dinner). We also had dinner twice on the beach at Bamboo Blu which is a short walk away. The private association beach is a very short and easy walk. The beach is lovely, uncrowded and the water warm and the most beautiful shades of green and blue. We mostly just hung out by the pool and the beach in the afternoons. The owner was very responsive and checked in during our stay. I have only accolades for the house and the staff. I would highly recommend the property for groups or family reunions. Plenty of room for everyone to be together and have private space. Everyone in our group said this was a very relaxing vacation and all are retuning home relaxed and rejuvenated.

Beautiful Getaway!

Myself and 21 of my Sorority Sisters enjoyed a wonderful stay at L'Horizon. The pictures do not serve this house justice. It is beautiful! The owner, Mr. Barrington was always available to answer our questions. The staff was nice and professional. The beach is near and picture perfect. The manager even assisted us with finding transportation to the excursions. This was an amazing home. Thank you again!
