While the quaint building was left as it was, the interior was newly renovated, including the bathroom and other water facilities, making it easy to use, and the area around the bed was clean.
However, there were two staff members, one of whom seemed to be a new employee, and she kept asking the other staff member who was checking me in what she couldn't do herself., and continued to talk about their job with other staff member when I drunk in the cafe, which was inappropriate and unpleasant behavior in front of guests. I would like to add that other one wasn't at fault in this case.

quiet stay here at KAMP, definitely nothing social about this hostel. Bar downstairs is quiet, great location to the city most things walkable

I really enjoyed staying here - the building style and layout was cool and creative, and I liked the bar/music element. Dozens of restaurants and shops were right around the corner - it was a cool area to explore. The staff were also very friendly and helpful. The only thing I would note, is that the room I stayed in was not very easy to keep warm. For the duration of my stay, I had the heater on full, which was only just able to get the room to a comfortable temperature (was there in winter). Other than that though, I would definitely recommend staying here!

This is a very average hostel.
Positives:
--Right by a shopping street so lots of food options nearby.
--Very clean, including the bathrooms.
--There is a nice bar/cafe located in the same building.
--The AC in the bunkroom worked well and the beds were comfortable. I got great sleep here.
--10 minute walk to Okayama Station.
Negatives:
--Towels cost 200 yen to rent, which seems silly. Every other hostel I've stayed in provides towels for free.
--The bunkroom is a little cramped, and I did not feel there was enough storage room for luggage.
Overall I thought it was a very average hostel experience. I would stay here again as it is cheap and in a good location.

Great spot close to it all
Posted Nov. 24, 2016 on WotifOnly had a short stay for two nights. Found the place very clean, friendly and so conveniently located. To rate this any less Thant perfect would suggest you haven't stayed in many if any backpackers. I wouldn't bother looking anywhere else on my next visit. Oh, did I mention they have a great bar.

Great accommodation but haughty bar staff
Posted Oct. 26, 2016 on HotelsI've stayed here 4 or 5 times and I really like it. The front desk staff are always super friendly and things are nice and tidy. The bar staff, however, is usually pretty horrid. They always put me in a bad mood because they're haughty and can't be bothered to take your order. You're supposed to get a free sake if you're a guest, which is a nice touch, but the bar staff always make me feel like a total dolt for even asking for it. They really ought to just bring it out to you rather than making you suffer having to convince the bar staff to give it to you. The last time, I decided to forgo the embarrassment and order a beer, (not free) which took 10 minutes to arrive, and fries, which took another 20 minutes to arrive. No customary "Omataseshimashita," ("thank you for waiting") just threw it under my nose and told me I'd have to pay immediately, even though I had asked to run a tab at the time of ordering since a friend was meeting me and was going to order something too. Just unpleasant and I'm kinda tired of it happening every time so don't think I'll recommend the place anymore. It's a shame.

Friendly enough staff but rooms are poor!

Pros: The bar is nice and serves a superb local beer from a producer called Kibidote. However, Okayama has lots of nice bars. Not reason enough to stay.
Cons: Staff definitely need to be more involved in engaging their guests. Room 5 in the summer is simply a joke.
Location: Close to the staying (10 mins on foot) but on the wrong side for all the nice bars and Izakaya. Lovely coffee shop close by called Onsaya.
Stayed for one night in August (34 Degrees outside temp). Bar downstairs is nice and the staff are friendly. The shower and bathroom facilities are perfectly acceptable, but the room I stayed in let the whole place down. Air conditioning was weaker than an asthmatic gerbil and there was no window in the room (room 5). Woke up in the morning covered in sweat. In fact I think the room was basically an afterthough. Was probably originally a cupboard. When I checked in, the sheets were not on the bed and the member of staff just put the pillow case on for me and gave up. The bed above remained unmade for the duration.
The last complaint was that room 5 is next to the communal area. Was woken at 6am by a rude family who let their child bang on every door he could and didn't shut him up for over 2 hours. Children will be children, but that is not an excuse to bother the rest of the paying customers. Staff on sight should have told them to shut him up or check out! You can't expect silence in a guest house, but a bit of consideration for the other paying customers is a bare minimum. For that reason alone, I wouldn't recommend this guest house. Price is 3500 yen, for around 1000 more there are hotels in the nice Nishikawa area where all the bars and Izakaya is.
