Fantastic unique place to stay
Publié le 20 août 2024 sur HomeAwayThe location can not be beaten, right on the beach of Portcothan Bay. This is one of these places you're kids will remember when they grow older "the time we stayed in the house with all the stuff found at the beach". It has great summer, beachie vibes and Jane is a lovelly host. Its a long way from where we usually live otherwise this would become our favourite weekend spot for sure

Loved it!
Publié le 15 août 2024 sur HomeAwayOur family of four (two boys aged 4-6) loved The Red Buoy - enough space and good that it’s separate from the main house as the kids weren’t quiet!
I'd liked to have stayed longer to explore but most time was spent enjoying the lovely surf, beach and child friendly stream that runs alongside. We saw the best sunset ever on arrival as the bay faces due west.
From reading the amenities list/reviews we were looking forward to accessing the beach directly through Glencoe’s enchanting wild garden, slate steps and driftwood gate - especially handy for quick visits to The Red Buoy’s toilet for our 4 year old and for carrying body boards. Instead we were a bit disappointed when Jane directed us to the beach via her driveway, main road and lane that runs past the shop next-door. Perhaps she was concerned about the kids slipping on the steps but we all enjoyed using the charming ones we encountered.
The flat was cosily furnished with beach finds, comfy beds and country throws, a well equipped kitchen and good shower. The bathroom roof let the sun in to help dry swim wear. I loved Jane's artwork and 3D frames made from driftwood and wrecking items.
No tv/phone reception but wi-fi worked and the boys were happy with children's dvds kindly provided, along with kids’ surf boards, plenty of loo-roll and local info.
Jane is forthcoming and The Red Buoy is an absolute delight - we didn’t want to leave and would stay again in a heart beat, although we need to practise reversing!

Unique beach house near the beach
Publié le 12 août 2024 sur HomeAwayPerfect stay with 2 adults and 7 years old child. Unique beach house attached to Jane's house. For people who appreciate a creatively made housing without too much luxury but with a great vibe. And a 2 minute walk to the porthocothan beach.

A third visit to this small quirky 'cabin'
Publié le 30 juin 2024 sur HomeAwayIf you are not looking for all the latest mod cons but are content to be close to the beach and coastal path this is a great place to stay.

You pay for the beach side location which is outstanding....accommodation which is decribed as 'quirky' is more like what was cheap 1970s student bedsit style accommodation... worn, run down decor and furniture....nowhere comfortable to sit indoors....Supposedly sleeps 4.... only if you don't
mind a complete lack of privacy ... kitchen cramped and difficult to use... outdoor seating areas cramped and overshadowed by shrubs and trees - Expedia advertises it as having a hot tub....non-existant - parking entails reversing up a long narrow drive....access to accommodation from car is up an irregular and wobbly in places flight of stone steps. Disappointing accommodation but with a refurb it has massive potential.

Quirky and fun
Publié le 26 sept. 2023 sur HomeAwayUnique and arty - we came with our bikes to cycle along the Camel Trail and loved this hideaway, with its beautiful art-works and beachcombed wooden shelves. The steps up are not for the faint-hearted (though we're both in our seventies and managed it OK) and don't expect all mod-cons (eg a dish-washer). Very comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen and lovely hot shower, though, and Jane was very friendly and accommodating. Porthcothan beach is on the door-step and the small shop nearby is useful for bread and milk. A great experience, recommended.

Small and querky accommodation in an ideal beach location
Publié le 2 juill. 2023 sur HomeAwayWe had everything we needed for a holiday by the coast. Great for swimming (and surfing) and beautiful walks along the coast in both directions.
