We will approve requests for small private events on a case by case basis. Please contact us directly to inquire.
We (the hosts) may occasionally be in a different cabin at the back of the property on some weekends, but guests of the lodge will not see us unless they want to.
Beautiful, quiet area at the top of Palomar Mountain. The property boasts 17.7 private acres of fern meadow and forest, including a cedar grove with trees over 350 years old. Palomar Mountain State park is only two and a half miles down the road, and the general store is a great stop for some snacks or forgotten items.
Plenty of parking on the property, but you'll need your own vehicle to get around on Palomar.
You can find miles of inspiring hiking trails within driving distance at breathtaking Palomar State Park. Water activities such as fishing or boating are also available at nearby Lake Henshaw and Doane Pond. Stargazers love to come to Palomar Mountain as it is known for being one of the most phenomenal places to see stars…There is even a famous Observatory within driving distance!
***If you are looking to book a venue for a party with loud music, alcohol, and extra guests, please do not book this rental. Palomar Mountain is a quiet community. Thank you for your understanding.***
No parties
Most folks come to Palomar to enjoy the solitude, nature, and views the mountain provides. This includes our neighbors, who live here year-round. Please be considerate and keep your noise levels reasonable. We do not allow more than 17 guests in the Lodge overnight (19 if you're using the Fern Cottage) and 27 during the day. Parties are not allowed, though small events might be accommodated if discussed with us ahead of time.
Spa
No food or glass containers in the spa. Broken glass is incredibly difficult to get out of the spa, and is incredibly dangerous in the water. Bits of food is just gross. Both require me to drain and refill the spa (all 500 gallons of it!) and spend hours on careful cleaning. Please let us know if glass may have broken in or around the spa, or if food spilled in the water. Accidents happen, but failure to disclose these types of incidents will result in additional fees.
Trash
There is no municipal trash service on Palomar. Guests must remove all trash from the Lodge and property to the dumpster detailed in the guest instructions. Failure to remove your own trash may result in an additional fee. Critters will get into whatever trash you leave behind at the first opportunity, and it tends to get spread far and wide. Please help keep the property clean and beautiful by taking care of your own trash.
Well Water
Our amazing water comes from the on-site well and 10,000 gallon tank next to the cedar grove in the backyard.
As California as a whole and especially Palomar Mountain have been experiencing prolonged drought conditions, please do your best to conserve water.
Septic System
The Lodge is connected to a septic system. Please do not flush anything except human waste and toilet paper. Items that do not disintegrate easily can disrupt the septic system. Please dispose of all feminine products, cleansing wipes, paper towels, etc. in the waste baskets provided. Additional charges may be levied for blockages resulting from prohibited items being flushed.
Wildlife
We have all sorts of wild guests on our property who have been here far longer than any of us. While it's exciting to observe the turkeys, deer, foxes, rabbits, bobcats, and more bird species than we've been able to count, please let them be in their natural state, and enjoy them from afar.
