Between Philipsburg and Orient Beach great location.
Publié le 8 avr. 2023 sur HomeAwayOn the water quiet area. Close to the main areas we wanted. Went out every day hit the places we wanted and only took a half a tank of gas for the week. Frank was great with any question.

Heavenly Little Corner
Publié le 26 mars 2021 sur HomeAwayWe really enjoyed the apartment and its location in a quieter corner of the island. The apartment is tastefully furnished with all the necessities - the fridge runs cold, and the shower runs hot. You can choose to either crack the windows at night to listen to waves breaking on the shore just a few feet away, or keep everything closed up if you need silence to sleep. All of the shopping and restaurants of Phillipsburg are just a 7 min car ride over the hill. Similarly, the road that heads to the French (north) side of the island is just over the hill, too. The swimming pool was pristine, with comfy chaise lounges to relax in. There are two sandy beaches within a 5 min walk, north and south of the villa. Guana Beach, to the north, is a bit calmer, and more snorkel-friendly; the waves at both beaches are big enough to have some fun on boogie boards, which Frank has provided in the villa. Being located at the end of the road and within a small cluster of homes, the area feels very safe, no concerns regarding personal safety (there's a little safe in the bedroom if you want to secure your documents and small valuables, though). Overall, highly recommended!

Great view. So so property.
Publié le 23 mars 2020 sur HomeAwayFirst off, we could only stay one night because of Covid 19 and had to evacuate. We paid for four nights but only stayed one. (Of course no refund). Amazing water view with crashing waves. Beautiful view of St Barts. The pool was terrific. We were not happy with the cleanliness of the unit as there was hair and dirt on the floor and on the furniture. Restoration from Irma was a bit poor in my opinion with some hazards on the floor, like rebar sticking up from the floor. It was ground down but was still sharp enough to cause injury. . We kept our shoes on the entire time and there was a water leak which caused standing water on one side of the master bed. The marble floor was very scarred and stained and the appliances we pretty old but they did work properly. We took a lot of pictures for proof. Frank responded as best he could but not much he could do to fix it. Frank should take a look at Max’s units to see how a restoration is done right.

One important thing this guest failed to mention is that at 8am, he texted me pleading to give him access to occupy the Waves as soon as possible. Our normal time to occupy is 3pm.
I changed their entry time to 8am to accommodate their request. No additional fee requested. They entered at 10am. Our maid went to clean at 10:15am but noticed the guests were there and did not clean.
The beds and linens were cleaned the day before. We always clean the floors and windows on arrival morning. Upon the guests concern that the floor was not clean, I said the maid would return in the morning. They said not to bother.
The Carrara marble floors survived the wrath of Irma. I choose to leave them as a benchmark of Irma. They do show signs such as salt etching and mineral release. There are no “rebar” of any sort as claimed by this guest. My opinion is that they were just flustered by the Civid19 situation and decided to take it out on The Waves.
At times we do have horizontal wind and rain being so close to the ocean. Some water may have blown through a window and settled on the floor. They didn’t want the maid to mop up.
The appliances were all bought new less than a year ago. Don’t know why this guest said they are old.
We just had guests leave before these guests arrived. They loved The Waves and left a 4 star review.
These guests never even thanked me for allowing them a very early entry or requested any partial refund. They told Max; my manager, that they liked the Waves except the floors needed to be cleaned better.
I personally stayed in the Waves the month before their arrival and made sure that all of the 3 separately controlled new air conditioners and appliances were in good working order.
All windows, beds and furniture are new.
What else they were looking for or expecting are beyond my comprehension.
The photos of The Waves are comprehensive and accurate. I personally like The Waves better than Villa Leone upstairs. It’s only one bedroom and a smaller patio and no hot tub, but, the views from the bed in the Master Befroom are the best!

I just left after staying 4 days at Tge Waves. The sun and waves greeting you in the morning right from bed through the master bedroom patio door is absolutely breathtaking!

kinda run down

Sidewalks were over grown with shrubs making it hard to get suitcases to property. Outdoor furniture dirty and uncomfortable. The location was amazing for a couple but I brought my 21 year old son and to keep him entertained was quite a drive.

You are totally correct on 2 counts and we wholeheartedly agree with you on the toilet seat and are embarrassed that the maid forgot her bread and cheese she intended to microwave. We do apologize!!
The day you arrived, we had a guest departing at noon the same day early and it was hectic getting The Waves ready in time for your arrival in the 2 hrs that we had. The previous guest that left that afternoon had broken the toilet seat and never informed us about it. We did get that immediately replaced for you.
We do have to take exception to your opinion that the inside is run down. Literally everything in the Waves is brand new including windows, doors, partitions, appliances, cabinets, Corian countertop, sofa, chairs, kitchen table, beds, mattresses, dishes, silverware, bedding, towels, toilet, sliders, paint, light fixtures.and more. Since you were the 3rd guest since we reopened The Waves, it is far from “run down”. To the contrary, it’s all brand spanking new.
As to the sidewalks, they are clear and very walkable. If you found one section that was not, please send a photo or an email describing where you had any issues. We will certainly address it.
You said the outdoor furniture is dirty and uncomfortable. The salt spray from the ocean does leave a residue on the tables and chairs as soon as they are cleaned. This is one of the results of being so close to the water’s edge. I have not had any previous complaints about that issue though. Most guests just wipe down the outdoor pvc table and chairs every morning before enjoying breakfast on their private patio on the ocean to one of the most amazing sunrises you will ever see!
The white pvc chairs are not the most luxurious but are the same as we have upstairs at Villa Leone. To date, you have been the first to describe them as uncomfortable. We previously had padded chairs but the ocean conditions did not make them the best choice. They were always too wet to sit on.
The pool lounges are very comfortable sling chaises.
In conclusion, I know that it was not the right location for you, as you told me that your son wanted to be near the “action” since he just turned 21. I totally understand and sympathize. The Waves, although only a 10 minute drive to the capital Philipsburg and 20 minutes from all of the action in Simpson Bay, is still not the best choice if you want to be right in the middle of a lot of people, bars and noise. Good potential, but need address few flaws
Publié le 21 janv. 2020 sur HomeAwayPros: Just 30 minutes from SXM. About 7 minutes from grocery stores/cafes (by car). Only 20 feet from the surf. You have constant ocean feel/sound/unobstructed views. Very tranquil with no tourists/cars/noise. Nice size community pool (we never meet anyone). No mosquitoes. On site handyman. Swimming beach about 5 minutes from house. Plenty of beach towels.
Cons: 1. House wasn’t clean (grease on stove-top, dust at clothes shelving & floor, dirt on the fridge). 2. It was no gas at stove on day # 1 (was fixed next day) and on day #7 (was fixed same day). 3. It was no hangers, we can’t hang clothes/shirts (was delivered next day). 4. It was no kettle, spatula, salad bowl, cutting board, soup spoon, can opener, hair dryer (some items delivered on second day). 5. Internet stops working on last day. Always was very slow 1-3 mbs. 6. Not sure if water heater is the same for the building, since there is 2 bed 2 bath unit upstairs. 7. If any issues, owner always refer to his onsite manager (200 feet away), but he was not always home, plus we can’t text him since its landline. 8. Cold water shower valve was not working (was fixed next day). 9. When we shut all windows while leaving unit (as advised by owner), it was very strong smell of dust from rodent/insect repellents plugged in electrical outlets. 10. No starter kits (coffee filters, shower items, paper towels). 11. Trash dumpster was about 1 mile from unit (we didn’t rent a car, so it was too far). 12. No screen at the larger bedroom sliding door. 13. No night lamps in bedrooms, only very bright wall lights. 14. Kitchen pots & pens are heavily used, cheapest quality aluminum old ones. 15. Ugly abandon house next door (damaged by hurricane Irma in 2017) and abandon unfinished construction resort with few empty buildings about 100 feet away. 16. Patio/balcony can’t be used without passing from kitchen via larger bedroom. 17. Height of both bathroom doors is about 5’10 (with my 6’3 height I always need to remember to bend over when entering-exit. 18. Mattress was on a softer side (I prefer more firm). 19. Few homeless dogs barking around house occasionally & begging for food. 20. Second bedroom have a small window facing laundry area: gave basement feeling (with back wall partially below soil level). 21. No laundry in unit. 22. Bath sink slowly drained. 23. Toilet seat was loose, completely broke up on last day. 24. Owner offer refund on a day #3 if we move out (but no availability due to holiday).

I tell all guests that a rental car is required. Please do not consider a stay at The Waves if you do not have a rental car. There is a community dumpster that all residents and guest use. It’s on the road to town and very easy to drop a tied trash bag in.12.Most of our sliders do not have screens. There are numerous windows with screens.13.Good suggestion.14.I will evaluate and replace if necessary.15.The house next door is not abandoned. It is in great shape! The project on the other side of the large wall has been halted for the last 12 years. It presents no negative issues for our community.16.This is true. It has not been a problem for any guests.We doubled the size of the master bedroom during recent renovations by taking space from the living area. 17.True.18.Most guests on vacation prefer a plush feel mattress.They are really very comfy!
19.There are friendly dogs around the complex. None of them are homeless.20.The window does not face a laundry area. It is a lawn area.
21.We have a laundry but It is for use of maid only.22.We have cleaned the trap. No mention of this was ever made during your stay.
23.No mention was ever made of this during your stay or at the time of your departure. We did note that you left us with a broken toilet seat that was not broken when you arrived.24. A couple days into your stay, I sensed you were not happy with the location being in an area where you needed a car. I offered a full refund of any unused days. Yet, you decided to stay another 7 days. I also never had anyone send me their review prior to publishing it. The motivation for this still escapes. You definitely have the distinction of leaving the longest list bad items that I have ever received from any guest over the past 15 years. We consider all comments as input to help us improve.

The Waves

But we had a few other problems while staying there...including bathroom doors that wouldn't close (half our stay), leaks in the kitchen and bedroom, and some bugs upon arrival. Otherwise, nice stay next to a secluded beach.

We are glad to hear that you loved the ambiance of The Waves. We do apologize for the items you mentioned.
After cleaning, the day before you arrived, our maid placed “Combat” enclosed insect containers around the Waves. Apparently they did a great job but sorry you had to find a couple insects on the floor. We did offer to send the maid to pick those up but thanks again for already having cleaned them up.
The day after you notified us of the sticking doors, we sent a carpenter to remove, plane and rehang the doors. They then worked perfectly.
We have found and fixed the small leak above the kitchen.
You were the first guests since we renovated The Waves over the past 2 years. Again, sorry that you had any inconvenience.

Great, relaxing vacation!
Publié le 12 juin 2017 sur HomeAwayWe really enjoyed our stay. We spent most days traveling around the island, shopping and hitting the beaches. In the evening it was great to come back to a more private area and listen to the waves crashing on the rocks. Extremely relaxing.

Great Getaway Right on the Water

The sound of the waves ( they can be loud) was so calming.....could sit on the deck for hours and was lulled asleep every night. We never used the pool as the beach was well within easy walking distance. The beach was never crowded, maybe 10 people at the most. The condo is away from all the hustle and bustle but it doesn't take any time to get to restaurants, shopping or sightseeing. The Waves had just what we were looking for, solitude but not isolated.

I feel exactly the same way about The Waves! The Waves is the closest residence to the ocean in all of Guana Bay. As you have experienced, it's practically like being in a yacht in the ocean but without all the rocking.
