An Energetic Ligurian Vacation
Publié le 27 août 2022 sur HomeAwayOur family of 8 had a wonderful time at Villa Margherita in Pieve Alta. From 12-75 years of age, we are all active and appreciate the wonderful Italian life-style that involves exercise -- walking to the sea and back is 1.8 km of steep steps and charming tiny streets -- and great food that one feels entitled to have after all those steps. When we felt the weather was a bit too hot for the climb back from the sea, we took the mini-bus right from the square to Boglisasco -- market day is Tuesday, the swimming is lovely, as are the shops and bakery. The Pieve Alta community is also very charming. We met many helpful people who welcomed us generously. The Panificio even made our pizza dough for us and we picked it up on a Sunday morning to make dinner that night easier. The wood-burning pizza oven is an amenity I have not experienced anywhere else in all my villa-rentals in Italy. The whole family got involved -- twice. We also walked to Il Lido' -- restaurant, quite close and with a great view -- although Villa Margherita has the best views of anywhere. We picked fresh figs in the garden, had late night dips in the very pleasant pool, clipped herbs from the garden for our cooking, played ping pong -- and the list goes on. When we had questions, we got answers promptly and we were never made to feel that anything was too much trouble. I could go on.... it was a memorable stay.

Nice view and outdoor-kitchen, but too expensive
Publié le 21 août 2022 sur HomeAwayFor the first time in all those years of renting houses (as a guest with a 5 star rating), we were really disappointed. VRBO advised us to post a review. We don’t mind to pay a high rental fee (comparable to a 4 star hotel), but then we expect a certain level of quality and a correct description of the house. * We felt very uncomfortable with 2 CCTV cameras pointing at us on the two terraces. * The pool is really not like shown on the pictures. We didn't expect a poor plastic build-up pool for children; adults can’t swim in it. The pool area is also far below average quality. * The poor kitchen gear (for exemple no bowls, no service plates, 5 wine glasses). * The 4th room isn't shown on the pictures and is not fit for adults because of the 2 children beds. However there is some feedback available stating that 8 adults stayed in the house which is impossible. * We knew the road was narrow, but with our car we couldn't take the first bend. This and more then 60 steps to reach the house, made the accessibility of the house not easy at all with luggage and groceries.

We are sorry to hear that you were not satisfied. Unfortunately we did not receive any communication from you during your stay, this would have allowed us to address concerns you had or issues you have encountered. We were therefore surprised to receive a message a couple of weeks after check-out requesting a financial compensation, where you also mentioned that you still had to write your review.
Our listing includes a description of the characteristics and facilities of the villa, which is available to anyone considering making a reservation. Allow us to add the following details: the pool is ca. 8m x 3m. The 2 single beds in the smaller bedroom are 200cm*80cm. The kitchen is fully equipped and sized for groups of 8 guests: pots and pans, bowls of various sizes, various types of coffee machines (Bialetti moka, Bodum coffee filter machine, French press, Nespresso machine, Bodum coffee grinder), champagne glasses, wine glasses for indoor (broken glasses are replaced quickly if we get informed), wine glasses for outdoor, tea cups, coffee mugs, all needed kitchen utensils, cheese plate, egg cooker, Bodum water heater, various spices, tea bags, sugar bags, egg cups, kids plates and cups, serving trays, BBQ gear, gear for outdoor pizza oven, etc. Also includes Bosch dishwasher, Siemens oven, Bosch washing machine, 90cm wide 5 burner gas stove inside, second 90cm wide 5 burner gas stove outside in the pergola area, microwave, etc. Other guests have appreciated the villa for its ability to accommodate groups of 8 with comfort as it offers ca. 180m2 of living space and has various areas outside to relax, eat, have an apero, etc., with a lot of privacy. The 200m portion of narrow road and the stairs between garage and villa are typical in Liguria due to its particular landscape of mountain and sea, it is described in the listing as we would like our guests to be aware at time of booking.

Beautiful Views and Wonderful Stay
Publié le 2 août 2022 sur HomeAwayOur family had a memorable stay at this very comfortable villa in Pieve Ligure. When we arrived we were greeted by the house manager, Sorah, who was so kind and helpful in answering all of our questions about the house and the area. Three of the four bedrooms upstairs have great A/C which was important since the temperatures were around 27 - 32 °C (80 - 90 °F) the entire time of our visit. The owners very kindly provided some fans for the downstairs of the house and so we were plenty comfortable. On the days that we did not make our way down to the ocean (by car usually because the walk is long and steep), the pool was a wonderful landing place at the end of a day, especially after the steep climb to the house. We explored the local nearby towns that are lovely—Camogli, Sestri Levante, Sori, Santa Margherita—and, of course, Portofino and Cinque Terre. The ferry to Portofino was very relaxing and the views were wonderful. The ferry queue was a bit competitive but we all managed to get onto the same boat.
On the nights that we didn't eat out, we did a lot of cooking at the house enjoying the local fish and vegetables and meat from the butcher. Shopping at the markets nearby was easy. Some of us spoke Italian and others in our group did not but the locals could not have been nicer about helping us. During our stay, the small town of Pieve Ligure had a La Sagra Paella & Sangria Festival for about three days that was great fun. All in all, we had a wonderful stay and so appreciate the kindness of Sorah, Meg and the wonderful people we met along the way.

Italian Villa
Publié le 27 juin 2022 sur HomeAwayNot enough words to describe the stunning setting from which we just travelled. The house and the grounds are beautiful. It was well appointed with towels and other necessities. The pool was perfect and the views of the sea brilliant. Meg was in contact very soon to answer questions and helped with a VRBO hiccup. Sorah checked is in and shared a lot of information about the village and the area. She was quick to respond to questions along the way during our stay. Paolo checked did our checkout bringing us delicious snack for our train ride. The perfect getaway!

Thank you for the feedback. We were unfortunately not aware about the concern, as the only message received during your stay was: 'We are very happy here'. We remain available at any time during a guest stay for any issue or question so this can be addressed in a timely fashion. Cleanliness is an absolute priority for us, the property gets professionally cleaned following an enhanced cleaning and disinfection process, as well as fully ventilated in-between stays. We also do full quality control over the whole kitchenware cleaned by the previous guests. Unfortunately a pan left at the very back of a cupboard has been overlooked, for which we apologize. Our property is usually praised by our guests for its cleanliness and we will ensure those high standards are kept. Regarding the access, I would refer you to the property description which explains the fact the the last 200m of the street getting to the house is narrow in a couple of points, which is pretty common in Liguria. We would also like to inform you that the open fire you did on the natural stone by the pool left a big stain which could not be removed
