Last minute host cancellation

We did not end up staying at this property because the host cancelled on us the day before. He reached out 2 months prior to tell us his pool would not be available and offered us a 20% refund. But he never provided it and did not communicate about this again. When we followed up about it, he cancelled the whole stay and tried to get us to change properties last minute. This seemed very strange so we didn’t agree. We did eventually get a full refund after a LOT of back and forth but lost over $400 cancelling activities we had scheduled in the area, which the host refused to refund.

We did have a very unfortunate situation with our neighbor to a point we did not feel safe hosting guest and needed to close this rental losing lots of money. When I explained to Sarah about the situation and even offered a much better rated house in the same area for the same price, not only she wasn't happy, she wanted to take advantage of the situation, we offered a FULL refund and she only wanted we should cover all her personal arrangements she has made in the area which I am obviously not responsible for especially when I offered alternative options.

Nothing like the photos--Stay away!

Murky pool that was not open and filled with bugs and tadpoles, unusable fire pit, construction in property directly behind backyard, a dirty house falling apart with sticky floors, leaky ceiling, vents filled with dust, broken baseboard heater, fuse outage, broken washer, poor WiFi, poor phone signal and electric outlets that don't work. We have 5 families and we gather annually. We drive from 4 different states. This trip, we were specifically looking for a property with a private pool. The photos looked amazing and perfect for our gathering. A picturesque backyard with a private pool, fire pit, trampoline and a grill outside. We messaged the property manager over six months prior to our travel dates. We inquired if the pool would be open for end of June. We were told YES! So we booked the property. We were NEVER notified pool was not open for the season. We did not receive check in information until 23 hours prior to check in hour, which made prior organizing difficult. Thanks to VRBO having messaging issues during our stay, it was also difficult to communicate in general. The WiFi signal was poor in the house and lack of cell phone signal didn't help. The house was nothing like the photos. The floor was dirty and sticky with multiple spiderwebs. There was a leaky ceiling. The baseboard casing was broken and kept falling. If you turn on the microwave, the fuse went out and refrigerator lost power. Washer didn't drain water. Many electric outlets did not work.
