I have been a VRBO user for many years and have never filed a negative review about a rental until now. I understand that properties don't precisely resemble the photographs or descriptions, and that some places are nicer than others, but the gap between description and reality here is egregious and created unsafe conditions for my family.
Here are some of the issues with the 'townhouse.' The living room smelled of dog urine and we could see an attempt to clean up a stain on the rug. There was mold and dirt around the bathtub in the bathroom described as 'new.' In the dirty, unfinished basement, you had to walk across pools of muddy water to reach the washer/dryer in the "private basement with your own washer and dryer." This was not only unclean but unsafe.
We entered the apartment via keycode but there was also a broken lockbox containing keys that would have allowed anyone to access the property. This also clearly posed a safety concern.
The bedrooms and bedding were described as such: "If you have ever stayed at a 5 star hotel you will draw similarities." That assertion is so inaccurate it is almost laughable. The beds and sleeper sofa in the living room were all described as "new" but that seemed very unlikely given their appearance and feel. Throughout, the furniture and walls were all battered, dirty and worn and the property generally unkempt.
Again, I understand that there are all kinds of properties on VRBO, some nicer than others, but this apartment was nothing like its description, with conditions that were not only unclean but unsafe, and, for the exorbitant price we paid for a single night (which VRBO will not permit me to reveal,) simply unacceptable. Stay elsewhere.
