Anniversary Getaway

Publié le 23 oct. 2019 sur HomeAway
The home is very warm and inviting. We'd love to return in the future and stay again if it's available. We were looking for something tranquil and cozy within walking distance to downtown and this hit the mark. We were just steps from a great view of the bay. The view from the promenade is just beautiful. I love that it was walkable to downtown but away from the commotion that goes with being downtown. Erna had some great dining recommendations as well. We've got nothing but positive things to say - it was great!

I’m so glad you had a great time! I was very happy to be able to sponsor a getaway for people who have young children…. You were my last “summer” guests this year, and it was great to host you. Erna, Jane, and Aubrey.

First Timers in Portland

Publié le 6 juin 2019 sur HomeAway
My husband Matthew & I are from Indiana and decided to book VRBOs and bed and breakfasts for our trip to Maine. This property did NOT disappoint. Erna offers coffee and lots of helpful advice on places to eat in Portland *Matt n I trusted all locals and were never disappointed*. Her place is within walking distance to a delicious bakery and the Portland observatory *5-10 min, depending on pace* and you can also walk to the Old Port, which is what Matt and I did for two days. I recommend whatever length of stay you decide to give Portland, add an extra day - the tours * Land and Sea* are well worth the price and you will also want time to try as many eateries as possible. The room was the perfect temperature and the shower was heavenly. We were also able to wash clothes, which we needed as we are living out of a suitcase for two weeks. Anything we needed, all we had to do was ask. It was a great location, as you have to pay to park everywhere in the old port, and we didn’t want to do that. The location also has less trafficked cafes and restaurants so you aren’t competing with as many tourists for a fantastic croissant or cup of coffee. We had a wonderful stay and I hope you choose to stay here as well.

Wonderful too short visit

Erna is a great host! We arrived pretty late and she was up and happy to see us. Only thing we wished was ready when we arrived was the cot being out and made. We had to do that and it was already late and we were tired from our day of travels. Besides that it was very very clean and well kept. Bathroom was cute and clean. She had coffee ready in the morning which was delightful and also a kettle for me to make tea. Her cat is cute and both my mom and I had no allergy problems when we stayed. Erna also took us for a lovely stroll around the 'hood. Can not wait to come back in the summer.

It was great to meet you! For some reason, I didn’t realize that you were going to use the cot or the sofa bed. Had I been clear on that, yes, it would’ve been ready. Hope to see you again this summer.

Outstanding location

Thanks so much for making room for me. The Peninsula is a beautiful place to be while visiting Portland. The room was immaculate and so roomy. The bed certainly provided a comfortable night sleep after a day spent walking. I'd be pleased to stay again if I ever need a place to lay my head in Portland. Reach out if your looking for a place in my neck of the woods.

Reasonable room in good location

Publié le 24 mai 2018 sur HomeAway
If you are looking for a private getaway then this is probably not the best option for you. The bathroom is shared by all residents (which she informed us about after the initial message to her). The bathroom doesn’t lock from the inside which is a bit inconvenient as well as there is no lock on the bedroom door when you leave for the day. Although the property is listed as not pet friendly, the owner does have a cat. This caused a few problems for us as I am allergic so I could not spend much time anywhere in the apartment other than the room. Portland in general is a great place to visit and the location of this property is within walking distance to both the port and downtown areas. The owner provided a great list of things to do as well as an iPad for research and to watch movies if we chose to do so. Overall the property was nice and a good price for what we got.

I'm glad these folks enjoyed the area, but I'm sorry Michelle wasn't delighted in every way. She was trying VRBO for the first time, and her expectations for staying at a room in a home may not be the right match. Michelle inquired about the bathroom, and seemed unhappy that they'd be sharing - They determined to come anyway, although I encouraged her to think about a hotel. We don't have locks on bedroom doors here, although of course we lock the front and back doors. I will put a small lock on the bathroom door. Seems like a good idea! There is not usually an animal here, and never in the front room. I'm sorry they didn't say something when they arrived, as we could likely have immediately moved him elsewhere, or found Michelle and her husband an alternative place through our local host network.

Very hospitable and great location!

Erna was a very great hostess, she informed me of how to get to where I need to and get in and where things are located as well as great suggestions for food, coffee, etc. My sister, brother and I felt at home where we were able to have coffee/croissants in her dining room Saturday morning. I was a little hesitant because she had a roommate there and didn't want to disturb her but Ellen didn't really seem to be bothered and she actually helped us get in the house and opened the door once my brother arrived the night before (we all caught different flights). I typically don't give 5 stars just because there's always things to improve on (anywhere) but Erna's conveniently located place and her very helpful suggestions are close to perfect! She even provided a cot for my brother and towels were laid out when we arrived. She also made herself available if we had questions. Thank you Erna for all your insight and our brief but interesting discussions about Portland or ME.
