The "Old Barn" is a gem just minutes from downtown. You will feel as if you are in a forest yet, minutes away, is the best of Portland. It's all at your fingertips. Yet, you might not want to leave the "Old Barn." The NEW door code is 2215.

The space
The old barn is incredibly unique in its location and eclectic, creative Decor. It is nestled in the woods yet ten minutes to downtown Portland, Nike headquarters, the Rosegarden, the Japanese gardens, hiking at the Arboretum and Council Crest and so much more. You will wake to the sound of birds chirping, and the view from the deck is enchanting. Keep an eye out for the owls, eagles, deer, coyotes, flying squirrels, and elephants - Okay, there are no elephants :-) The master bed is as good as they come. It's a king with a remote that lifts the head or the feet and it has a massage option. There is also a foot massager next to a desk.

Guest access
You will have access to all of the old barn including the wonderful outside deck and hot tub, exclusively for you! It's very private. The back area, down the hill about 500 feet away, has another unit on it and is reserved for those guests only. Please DO NOT WANDER OFF. There are neighbors nearby, though you can't see them. Thanks for understanding.

Other things to note
Please rinse off before using the hot tub; only touch the blue "spinning" button to turn on and off the jets. The controls are very sensitive and can accidentally turn it off. Do not hot tub alone. Do not use alcohol or other drugs while in the hot tub. Do not exceed 15 minutes in the hot tub.

There is a one-time $58 charge for each pet. Pets MUST be leashed when out of the unit.

Secluded location just miles from Portland. Quirky place with tons of charm and positive energy. Comfortable bed and lovely upper deck with great view. Kitchen could use more counter space and a proper oven if you’re planning to do any cooking but overall we enjoyed it!

Super great spot

I liked the place. Was a super private place in the woods. Quiet and relaxing. Inside stairs were super steep but it was fine. Just don't get super drunk or high before you climb them and use the outside stairs if you feel it's safer. Had a wonderful time while on vacation in the Portland area

Nice location for a book retreat..

Yes the review about noises in the wall upstairs is true, but didn't bother us.. we had a good time.. my only suggestion would be a tension rod and curtain or blinds in the big open bathroom window to help make the girls more comfortable.

Critters living in the ceiling and walls

We arrived Tuesday night of Thanksgiving week and our initial impression was positive in that the place was quiet, the interior was clean and the bed was comfortable. Wednesday morning I got a good look at the exterior and the back patio area shelving that is filled bottom to top with garbage, rusty old tools, single shoes, spilled cigarette ashcans, etc. Honestly we'd shrug this off and consider it part of the funky vibe, but with the addition of squirrels, opossum, or raccoons living in the ceiling it feels pertinent. More on that...we were kept up every night by loud scurrying and scratching in the ceiling and wall directly above our heads. The bedroom is in the attic space so the ceiling is directly above your head. This was disturbing to say the least. We tried to deal with it, but it proved to impact our sleep and my wife was, more than a little, freaked out. We tried to sleep downstairs on the air mattress that is mentioned in the listing and found that there were no sheets or blankets that fit it. There were some twin sheets that were literally balled up in a corner of a closet.We called Peter, the manager, after we got home to let him know the issues. He apologized and let us know that he was aware of the animal problem and basically told us there was nothing he could do about it. I can deal with quirky and even recognize the randomness of animal infestations. I can't accept being rented a property with a known issue that has such a big impact.

Yikes! Mice in the walls

It was a beautiful setting in the woods, but sadly the pillow smelled like urine and there were mice running in the wall right behind our heads in bed and kept me up. Yuck.

Couldn’t stay away!

Enjoyed our first stay at the Old Barn and knew it would be perfect for a quiet romantic getaway. It didn’t disappoint! Soaking in the hot tub in a cool gentle rain then warming up in the luxurious shower and cuddling up in the huge comfortable bed were exactly what we needed. And I loved the chance to serenade my husband on the baby grand! We’re already looking forward to our next stay!

Lovely getaway
 We’ll be back!

My husband and I enjoyed a fabulous romantic birthday weekend at the “Old Barn” and we definitely plan to return! We were delighted with the globally eclectic decor, super comfortable bed, private setting, deck and hot tub and incredibly large shower
 everything we needed for a romantic weekend. Plus a baby grand piano! So I was able to serenade him with love songs. Thanks for creating such a lovely space and making our stay easy and comfortable.

Private and secluded

We enjoyed our stay at the Old Barn! We had close access to everything, and it was nice to come "home" to a quite and relaxing place. I'm giving only a 4 star rating because it's lacking bathroom facility on second floor with the master bedroom.

Let's be honest

I feel obligated to leave this review because the property listing failed to disclose an aspect of the home that could be a deal breaker. If I had known about this ahead of time I would not have booked this property. The bathroom is located on the first floor and the bedroom is on the second. To access the second floor your choices are to use a very steep, winding, unsafe staircase or use the wooden staircase outside up to the deck outside the bedroom.There is even a sign inside stating "USE STAIRCASE AT YOUR OWN RISK". This is unacceptable for a VRBO property. To use the bathroom during the night I had to put on shoes and a jacket and use the staircase outside because I did not feel safe using the staircase inside when I was half asleep. Vacationer beware!

The natural beauty was amazing. My favorite moments were in the early morning. I would get up and soak outside in the hot tub. Just looking out at the forest and enjoying the sounds around me. The bed was comfortable and the shower was amazing. I truly enjoyed my quick stay. Will come back again.

Peace and quiet

Fun and funky property in surprisingly peaceful setting. Could use a refresh of cups and other kitchen items, but that’s a small quibble for a fun little getaway.
