Fortunately, in over a decade of renting, we have never had bedbugs. This guest booked 10 nights with us in January. After completing her full 10 nights stay, Guest sent private message to us (not copying VRBO) stating that she had discovered bedbugs 4 nights earlier. Guest said her first 6 nights were glorious and she then requested a refund of $3010 for 4 nights stay and airline changes (even though there were none). Guest added that she had not yet left a review, as she was leaving it to us to make “things right” . We advised the guest that she was probably bitten by noseeums (sandflies) we had never had bedbugs. Nonetheless, even though we were skeptical, to be sure we immediately paid ORKIN to carry out an emergency inspection of the Cottage that very day. We were pleased to, and did share ORKIN’s findings with the guests ie:- “That there was NO evidence of bed bugs past or present anywhere in the cottage”. Note also that the guest who checked out the day the complainant arrived, has left us a five star review and that no other guest, whether before or after this guests has ever reported bedbugs at that Cottage. Indeed, the complainant’s story of her stay being bedbug free for the first 6 nights, initially had us worried that she had inadvertently brought bedbugs with her. Fortunately, the ORKIN report allayed that concern. We have been booking through VRBO for more than a decade. We are Premier Partners, have a 10/10 rating, and over 184 reviews (the overwhelming majority of which are 5*). This paints the picture of who we really are -ie hosts concerned about the wellbeing and enjoyment of their guests. We stand on our record and (whilst we would certainly never say that we could never get bedbugs) we can say that we have never had that issue. Indeed, we have throughout taken the added precaution of using mattress covers to protect against such an issue. We therefore trust that future guests will see this review for what it was, and afford it the weight that it deserves.
