What an experience!

Publié le 16 juill. 2024 sur HomeAway
Watching monkeys and toucans eye level while drinking coffee in the morning, listing to the rain or wildlife during the night. Making dinner or playing cards in the evening 70 feet in the tree. We never felt scared or unconformable, but very alive, therefore our family of 5 will never forget that experience. Very unique tree house with all the the features a home needs. Thank you, Michael for opening your home to us so we are able to experience Costa Rica's rain forest at it best.

Incredible Experience

Publié le 14 avr. 2024 sur HomeAway
What an incredible experience it was to stay here!!! Definitely high-end accommodations for a treehouse. Michael was a pleasure to work with, was very accommodating when our flight was delayed and we got there late. We loved being in the trees and so close to so much wild life. I definitely would recommend for someone who loves nature and the outdoors. We all had an overwhelming feeling of sadness the day we had to leave.

Rachael and her family were a great example of flexible and adventurous guests. They loved the daily monkey passings and trails to rainforest pool. They .enjoyed sloth tour, kayaking, beach and restaurants close by, especially the pizzaria. I recommend 5 to 7 day stays to allow nature to penetrate your wellbeing

An experience we will never forget

Publié le 2 mars 2024 sur HomeAway
It was very fun and a good experience, of course there was what you expect with bugs and creatures and all the jungle noises. When we went it was cicada season which was loud during the day but they quieted down at night. We were there during dry season so that could play a factor in the river, but we couldn’t find the river and we walked a pretty decent amount looking for it. The only thing that was pretty bad was the beds… the sheets were clean and nice as well as the towels, but the actual mattress was moldy and dirty which made it hard to sleep. Over all we had a fantastic time lots of family time and it was definitely an experience and I would recommend as long as you’re prepared for the amount of creatures and you like the nature!

Carrie and her family saw 3 types of monkeys from the treehouse on their first day and went on all the great tours I recommended. They stated to me they had a wonderful, once in a lifetime visit is what they said to me when they checked out. Not sure why they left the review they left. Our treehouse is 70 feet in the air wrapped around a tree where 4 types of monkeys, toucans, scarlet macaws, iguanas, geckos, toucans, hummingbirds… they all migrate through each day. Nothing lives in the tree except you when you decide to stay. Remember, we are located 3 km away from Corcovado National Park where there is more wildlife than anywhere else in the world…So why all the fuss. They don’t bit or bother, they just wander through ….The beach has far more biting insects than the forest. February is Cicada season and a symphony of noise that pierces your soul like a rolling stones concert for a few weeks. For people to want to witness Corcovado natural wonder but be in a bug free environment, then criticize their stay on Airbnb is beyond point of ridiculous. In regards to mattresses, we have comfy mattress pads on all beds, Egyptian cotton linens, fresh towels and bedrooms 100% screened in with fans for sleeping well. I assure you they are clean, not moldy and guests need to be used to humidity up in canopy , remember my home is in a tree. It can be humid occasionally but fans keep everyone comfortable too. I suggest guest considering planning their vacation with us, to read between the lines … and adventure out of the box to stay with us. Expect wildlife and adventure to

Disappointed

Publié le 22 août 2022 sur HomeAway
When we read the description of the treehouse experience and other guests' reviews, we were looking forward to seeing wildlife explode daily all around us as it was described as an exotic wildlife paradise. It was nothing of the sort. In our 3 days stay, not a single monkey, no parrots, no sloths, no nothing, even while trekking around the area. Instead, we had to face 2 huge spiders, 6 gigantic flying cockroaches, big geckos and all this with very poor netting around the beds (lots of holes). When paying so much money for accommodations in nature, you expect good protection for a good night sleep. The water bassin, i.e. the pool, is a little far down in the forest and is used by the staff to do laundry. Not very inviting. Mind you, the staff was very friendly and did her best to take care of us upon our arrival as the host was not there. In terms of fruits for smoothies and veggies for salads, staff struggled to find us only 2 limes. We did, however, have some spices. Overall, the treehouse itself and the surrounding vegetation was beautiful but our experience did not meet our minimum expectations regarding being surrounded by wildlife. We actually decided to leave one night early because we found it difficult to adapt to all the big insects in the house and didn't ask for reimbursement.

Guests arrived during heavy down pours of rain and were petrified of heights and insects, afraid to walk around in fear of being bitten by ants. I offered to switch them to my other home during their short stay which is also open air home. I did my best to console their fears and they admotted that they are from city, and afraid of nature and things that move and scurry in the night. I recommended guided hikes with entemologist to help them witrh fears. Husband was afraid of heights and my treehouse is 70' up in a tree as my website shows. On the Osa, there are many wildlife sightings, frogs, monkeys, toucans ...Not sure what they expected as I dont offer guarantees of seeiing wildlife. There are plenty of herbs, spices and fruits on farm and wash basin is no where near pool in the forest as they stated. I'm not sure why they think seeing animals is automatic as they sleep durin g the rain too and dont move around much. Most guest stay a week and see 2-3 types of monkeys. Sloths less often. These guests would be off in Marriot hotel type setting- our visiting zoo, however , animals sleep in zoo as well. Treehouse is for those who want to expereince adventure and be close to nature, not just watch on discovery channel from comfort of living room. I offered them a 3 day credit in future in my other home and they refused. In Remember The Osa is the most biodiverse place in the world. and that includes all wildlife. Guests should stay longer and slow down their itenerary to enjoy what I offer. I'm sorry my treehouse and property did not meet their expectations. I encourage you to look at othe rreviews whewn evaluating your next vacation for adventure. Dec - April it is less rainy. Also June - July. It was just bad luck it rained during their entire short stay.

Bucket list vacation return trip!!!!

After a visit to the OSA Peninsula staying with Mike and Blondie in the treehouse two years ago ,we just couldn’t wait to get back. We stayed in the new house on the property and enjoyed it as much as we did then. The property has breathtaking views, and you do feel like you are in the middle of the jungle. It is a wildlife paradise and they help you add all the adventure you want! 65 foot tree climb, rappelling down waterfalls, fishing, and lots of hikes day and night! Wildlife abounds!

Peaceful retreat with bounty of wildlife.

Publié le 29 janv. 2019 sur HomeAway
Had an amazing time in CR, made even more fantastic by staying in this great house. Michael the owner/host was very friendly with lots of advice on what to do. We were looking for something a little different and peaceful, our family got it here. First - the house. Set in a truly wonderful location. Little tricky to find first time, road was fun and sound advice is the 4x4 car rental! House had plenty of space for our party of 5, bedrooms were fine and the kitchens were well stocked with all the needed utensils. Overall don’t expect house with all mod cons. You are in rainforest environment after all. While house could do with a little TLC, it is quite comfortable and my family really enjoyed our time there. The location!! - Great place to relax and get away from other tourists and enjoy the bounty of wildlife on your doorstep. Every day we were greeted by Oliver (A big iguana we named!) hanging out in a nearby tree basking in the sun. Scarlet macaws flying by in pairs and toucans by the handful. We counted 9 toucans in one nearby tree one day....Amazing! Around 4 - 5pm a troop of squirrel monkeys would saunter through the trees while we sat on the deck. Tip bring binoculars oh and bug spray. Summary - fantastic vacation and we would definitely go back

It's great having families like you that enjoy rainforest critters, birds and even a few insects. People seem more concerned about fears and phobias than before when you stayed. Osa is a place for adventure and curiosity. Bring extra camera batteries too. Glad you enjoyed all I have tyo offer. Pura Vida.

Treehouse Christmas

Publié le 19 janv. 2019 sur HomeAway
Christmas in a Treehouse This was truly the trip of a lifetime! Finding it was fairly easy, but you definitely need a 4-wheel-drive vehicle. I’m glad we took Blondie’s advice and let her rent the car for us. We drove down the coast from San Jose, which took about six hours. It was a pretty drive, and there were plenty of places to stop along the way. Once we arrived we were met by the owner and designer of the treehouse, Michael. He gave us a quick tour, told us how to reach him or the caretakers if needed, and then left us to settle in. It made me feel good to know there was always someone around, but they didn’t intrude on us at all. It being Christmas, they were very thoughtful and had a small Christmas tree and a few decorations up. We appreciated that, as it was our first Christmas vacation away from home and we had our college-age kids with us. The treehouse itself and the space around it was amazing. We were awakened at dawn every morning by howler monkeys and scarlet macaws, and lulled to sleep by the sounds of the forest. We enjoyed the dipping pool and trails just a short hike away. One of our favorite activities each evening was watching the leaf-cutter ants crossing the dirt road. We had several visits by spider monkeys — even a mama and baby! Mike and Blondie have put together a book with treehouse info as well as recommended tours and things to do. We did most of them, and especially loved our time on La Sirena with Captain John and the dolphins, and our visit to the wildlife sanctuary was both educational and fun. While the kids were a bit freaked out by bugs and bats our first night, they quickly learned to love treehouse life once they realized they were not on the menu. The kitchen was fully stocked, and we had everything we needed to cook meals — although we did eat out in Puerto Jimenez quite a bit. We especially enjoyed The Iguana Lodge (high end), Restaurant Delphines (mid-priced), and Pizza Mailit was like home away from home. The owner, Josh, made us feel like family, and we enjoyed spending Christmas Eve there with some new friends. The pizza and smoothies were our kids’ favorite. This is definitely not for the squeamish or anyone who can’t make the climb up the spiral stairs, but for those interested in eco-tourism and immersion into Costa Rican life, it really is an amazing place to stay.
